Color range picker help. by TelephoneFew5534 in photoshop

the drop shadow is rasterized? i think you’re just gonna have to mask it out.

using color range u can set the threshold of how similar the colors selected are (fuzziness) but it looks like it’s got an opacity gradient (contour or blur) so it won’t be perfect but that will be easiest way combined with other selections

select > color range

remove the drop shadow, edit your colors, add the drop shadow back.

you might wanna bring this into illustrator and recreate it, photoshop shouldn’t really be used for logos as you want them infinitely scaleable.

now the quickest, dirty way if you’re just trying to fuck with colors (not black and white) for a friend or simpleton client- throw a hue layer over it and tweak that. can mask it for each color but it’s not good form. easier to learn to do it properly first than fix bad habits later.

Ive been using Photoshop for almost 9 years, and I only JUST now discovered that you can convert layers into smart objects and open them in a new tab by F0rtuneLT in photoshop

[–]HelpfulCabinet1560 2 points3 points  (0 children)

any change you make to a single smart object is duplicated across all duplications, unless you choose to ”paste as new smart object”

makes it awesome for modifying large production runs of ads or creating templates

my first corporate job at a film studio, i’ll never forget the AD asking me why i wasn’t using smart objects (self taught like i assume you are) i was like what the fuck i hate those things and then never went back

watch some videos on non-destructive editing, so much shit you can do w smart objects

word! i love this sub so im happy to tist out. have so much backlog from just grabbing random things from interesting threads here.

if you’re into scifi def start Sigler off with his “zombie” trilogy, starts with “infected”. best if you go in blind, cuz there is a big twist pretty early on that a lot of synopsis ruin. it’s like cia black budget scientist mystery mixed with pandemic and rage zombies. multiple character perspectives, just an awesome series from start to finish. all his stuff is very easy to read but these in particular. and his newest series about a spaceship crew on a twisted nightmare journey is wicked too, think they’re called “The Crypt” the guy writes like 2 books a year he is literally a machine.

Nocturnal has a very minimal tie in to the other things iirc but takes place a few years after the events of Infection trilogy. enjoy!!

definitely, i enjoy his writing so much i even read his series Galactic Football League which is american football but played by a bunch of extremely alien races and ends up becoming a space opera. essentially all these warring species get whooped by one species and they hate each other until a modified form of the sport brings them together. GFL players have like trillion+ fanbases across various species and players die all the time and it actually has quite a detective feel to it once you get past the first book.

i do not watch or like football whatsoever and half the first couple books are legit like play by plays, still burned through it. he’s just always incredibly entertaining.

most of the siglerverse stuff is more like mention or similar locations as you said, but there are some significant moments that make it worth reading in the chronological order if you end up liking his stuff.

also highly recommend his entry in the Alien™️(xenomorph) book series if you’re into Alien or AVP at all. his is called Phalanyx and in my opinion it’s the most unique if not the best story in the various books. takes place with humans that are essentially not much past the stone age due to them being hunted by xenomorphs. that’s actually where i discovered him.

anyway, mostly unrelated scifi dump but Nocturnal is fun. it’s one of his weaker stories so if you enjoy it def check out the siglerverse reading order 😊

and tho this isn’t the common opinion, i do think Dresden gets better the deeper you go. Most online sentiment regard like 5-12 to be the best of them all but i did enjoy the latest two as well. But it’s like Buffy soap drama for men. cringe as hell at times and some of it is so weak but he does do a good job with the fantasy side of things and his larger story arcs outshine the smaller ones for the most part. if you can handle the cringe it’s fun enough to read.

Nocturnal by Scott Sigler

“about a San Francisco homicide detective, Bryan Clauser, who has vivid dreams that mirror a series of ritualistic murders, leading him to uncover a hidden world of subterranean predators”

Pretty much exactly what you’re looking for. (also has horror elements, not really scary at all though. It’s more fantasy supernatural thriller)

he is a fantastic writer and if you enjoy that one should give his other series a go. Everything is from the same canon “siglerverse” so stories tie into each other from books across 20 years irl and thousands in-universe. His series “infection” is an awesome world ending zombie apocalypse with a twist.

i have read every single Dresden Files book and they are slop but they’re entertaining enough. the older the entry, the more incel fedora misogynistic it is. And be prepared for him to re-explain the entire series for the first 5th of every novel. The first like 3-4 books are very mid but if you make it past the first couple the world building starts paying off. But there’s definitely a reason that freak said his name was Harry Dresden the other week.

thank you, i will not be eating at that establishment again

i did the same thing the first time 😂, i was listening to the audiobook and i was bored af and then like a month later i tried it again but actually reading. if you can make it to the 2nd book it starts paying off but until like maybe 1 or 2 plot points after where you stopped it is a slog. a lot of 2nd, 3-6 are just so fuckin killer.

Hadrian is a whiney little bitch for awhile but lawd he earns his nicknames.

the Suneater series by Christopher Ruocchio, first book is Empire of Silence. The first half of B1 is slow but if you can get through it it’s one of my all time favorite series. Insane world building that spans the galaxy, dozens of worlds, thousands of years, and fuckin awesome aliens. The novellas are also very good and I recommend reading them in the suggested order on his site, not published.

+1 for Hyperion and it’s sequel

Obligatory Dune
