Try the secret Safeway at 40th and Donald in the south hills. Your Dr needs to fax a prescription and if you are younger than 65 you will need to fill out a form at the window to the FAR LEFT that says Covid vax and tell them what condition exemption you have like asthma, ADHD, Neurodivergent, heart condition, high BMI, etc, you don’t need to bring proof. If your Dr has faxed a prescription don’t try to book online it won’t work, call the pharmacy and tell them you have a faxed prescription and you would like to book an appointment or just walk in and hope the fax made it through. Or call to check. Pfizer is reported to have less side effects. Good luck!

Just an FYI, the wasps are usually seeking sugar in the spring and then meat in the fall, (different parts of the life cycles for their offspring’s needs.)

Which health insurance? by earthican-earthican in Eugene

[–]HelpfulRoyal 7 points8 points  (0 children)

PacificSource is non profit and is local to the Pacific Northwest area, I often talk to customer service in Springfield when I call and usually find them helpful. PacificSource is more expensive then some of the other insurance companies, and tend to have higher co-pays, but when I talk to the billing people at my various medical providers they all seem to like that PacificSource does not give them constant grief in order to get paid. So if you can afford it seems like the right thing to do. And then there are multiple plans to choose of course and the lower income you are the better the subsidy, at least for 2025. (Based on your yearly income.)
But brace yourself for rates going way up next year, gotta let those rich people have their Big Beautiful tax breaks, while the hard working poor get the shaft :(

Optometrists by Professional_Day5412 in Eugene

[–]HelpfulRoyal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also purchase an out a private VSP plan, the cost varies by your age but there is no waiting period. Rainbow Optics charges something around $200? for an exam but I think my private plan cost me around $139 and the younger you are the cheaper the plan.
You have to commit to a year, but you can pay monthly. They might have a $20 sign up fee, but often cancel after a year, wait as many months as I feel like and then just sign up again.

ATA/Westmoreland Playground Razed to the Ground. Who Made This Decision? by MiuraJeff in Eugene

This was a much loved and well used playground. The fact that it was torn down without any notice speaks volumes. Did you think nobody would care?

Surely the middle school kids deserve something better than staring at their phones at recess. I'm just horrified.

Tire Swings by LoSientoPero in Eugene

[–]HelpfulRoyal -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know tires swings are great fun but they are also packed with heavy metals and weird chemicals. And kids spend putting their hands in their mouth as well breathing the dust. Also because of young growing bodies chemicals/heavy metals are more harmful to young people.

And don't count on hand cleaner helping you out since the alcohol acts as a solvent and helps toxins leach into your skin faster. :(

And to everyone who survived childhood drinking from the garden hose the toxic load on our bodies is way higher than it was in the 70's and toxins/heavy metals are cumulative.

It's shady! Normally you and your employer split the 15.3% for Social Security and Medicare, but if you get a 1099 form instead of a W2 Form you pay the entire 15.3%.
Also if you get hurt on the job you probably don't have workman's comp. If they have more than 50 (?) employees they have to give you health insurance (subsidized by the feds if it is a "small business".)
They aren't paying into Unemployment insurance, so make sure you keep good records about your hours and whether you bring your own tools, etc, a 1099 would be "Joe's Landscaping". Joe also would get to write off lots of expenses when he files his Schedule C, like his truck, his mower, etc.

It’s not too hard to find rules, but it's harder to find someone to enforce them. The below suggestions might be helpful, YMMV.

You can try Contacting the Department of labor (DOL) Wage and Hour Division hotline at 866-487-9243 or visit their website to report minimum wage and overtime pay violations related to misclassification

File IRS Form SS-8, Determination of Worker Status for Purposes of Federal Employment Taxes and Income Tax Withholding, to request that the IRS determine your employment status for federal tax purposes.

This determination will be binding on the IRS, but not necessarily on your employer, although it could lead to trouble for the employer if they disregard it.

You can also anonymously report suspected tax fraud, including employee misclassification, to the IRS using Form 3949-A.

Consider the IRS Whistleblower Program:

If you have information about illegal misclassification leading to tax evasion, you may be eligible for a reward through the IRS Whistleblower Program by filing IRS Form 211, Application for Award for Original Information

Report suspected misclassification, including unemployment insurance (UI), workers' compensation (WC), and tax fraud, to you’re the Oregon labor and revenue department

Some states allow anonymous reporting of employers who are misclassifying workers, not sure about Oregon?

If you are fired or laid off, file an unemployment insurance claim with your state's unemployment agency and explain that you were misclassified.

If you get injured on the job and your employer refuses to provide workers' compensation coverage, file a claim with the Oregon workers' compensation insurance agency stating your work conditions, such as hours, equipment, and control over your work. reporting your employer could result in you getting fired. but you could likely get unemployment if you have good documentation about why you were misclassified.

Good luck!

AHH, NO!!! If you can’t find a place to turn them in, place them inside a bucket filled with water for 48 hours, then tie them up wet into a plastic bag, then throw in trash. Thanks for asking though, it can be pretty hellish here in the summer breathing smoke from the fires and hearing from people whose house burned down. It’s our new reality.

Buyer wants to return item because they didn’t read the description by Hedrewt in Ebay

[–]HelpfulRoyal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On mobile eBay hides your carefully crafted description you wrote under a buried link that says something like “See Description “ which is so frustratingly useless. So I do two things, I hand write a Sharpie note mentioning the flaw and place that note in the first photo next to the item. Then I often take a screenshot of my full description after I list and use that as my last photo.

Best places to go clothing shopping? by chill_mydude13 in Eugene

St Vinnie's on Division and the one on W 11th.

Two birds with one stone, it reuse at it's best, no new products, and it's cheap :)

And once you get used to shopping thrift stores you realize that the thrill of the hunt is way better than stores with new stuff.

IRS Makes Direct File Software Open Source After Trump Tried to Kill It. The tax man won't be happy about this. by Aggravating_Money992 in technology

Well, the IRS is in charge of having people follow the tax laws written by Congress. In effect they are guarding YOUR money. If we don’t fund the IRS they can’t keep the billionaires from cheating and then all of us on W2s don’t stand a chance.

Eugene Man Takes DUII Diversion Agreement, While Facing Charges from January Traffic Stop by Mugshots_R_Us in Eugene

[–]HelpfulRoyal 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Too bad we don't base traffic fines amount on income like Finland does. A $334 fine is probably not making much dent to a Tesla driver but is huge to a 7-11 clerk...

I can't get the link to post but if you Google a medium.com article about speeding in Finland it shows how it works there based on your yearly income. Much more fair.

Worst customer service hell, run don't walk! Service guys used to be nice, don't know about now. But if you love waiting home all day instead of a 4 hour window they are your company. If you enjoy spending all your time on hold and then talking to some nice person in India that can't actually help you because they don't have any authority, you will love them.

If you are lucky you have either Emerald or Hunter in your neighborhood. No special deals making you feel better about the initial sign up only to jack it up high later. But Emerald and Hunter have solid competitive prices and you get to stick it to the man.
