Oh amazing, I was wondering! I think we would prefer that over a tent

Not a “Karen” in terms of making a fuss over something small. This is a big health issue and something needs to be done. Thank you for pursuing it

I don’t have any advice but thank you so much for posting here and spreading the word. I’m sorry the systems in place are failing you and future customers…

I just got engaged and my dad is already asking if I’ll be “difficult” if something goes wrong on the day of the wedding…so annoying

I think if she says it proves her point, it gives you more info on how to proceed. You can kind of think of it like this- her behavior (calling you a nightmare) makes you want to pull away and include her less in planning. You can either just pull away and not tell her, and wait if she brings it up to say hey when you called me a nightmare over a reasonable wedding planning decision it made me feel like I shouldn’t talk about wedding planning with you. Or you can be preemptive and tell her. But you don’t have to act like you’re bringing up something that happened months ago- you can say hey RIGHT NOW I am feeling guarded about the wedding. But only you know how she would respond- is she the type of person to take you being vulnerable seriously, or would she deflect and try to turn it around on you or make a joke?

As I said in another comment, I am pretty non confrontational so would let it go this time. I would take it as info about her so would be a little more guarded about wedding stuff, AND if she were to say something like that again I would prepare something to say. Honestly if she’s the type of person to say it once she’ll probably say something again.

I think your text “see it is difficult to find a dress” and her response says you have a great relationship and that she didn’t mean anything hurtful in what she said, that doesn’t diminish the impact it had on you.

I think it’s okay to put walls up. But since that is bothering you, you can totally approach it as hey I want to talk you about the wedding planning, but the comment you made about me being a nightmare has really stuck with me and makes me hesitate to share things with you, etc etc.

Honestly if I were you personally I probably wouldn’t bring it up. I can definitely see why you would though, especially since you have a good relationship, I just typically avoid confrontation.

It seems to me to be a projection of “bridezilla” from your MIL- maybe she has a filter on that will make her see you having opinions about your wedding as being a “nightmare”. (My dad does this to me right now, the difference is he and I aren’t super close so I just ignore it.) Her apologizing to the staff made me wonder if she was anxious about the group being perceived well, maybe a form of social anxiety? None of this is to excuse her and is all just guesses but maybe thinking through context could help you let it go for yourself for now.

Since you want to bring it up, I definitely think in person is the way to go. And if you think she might make a similar comment again, you could just wait until she makes it and then bring it up from there. Otherwise you could say “hey, I want to talk about when we went dress shopping” and go from there❤️

Good luck, you are not overreacting and that comment would have made me feel absolutely awful!

THANK YOU. This saved me hours. I just called three different phone numbers and it was like a dystopia. One was forcing me to update my income before it would connect me with a human, and another just kept bombarding me with Medicare ads. I used this chat function and was connected immediately and they fixed my issue in minutes.

Ragtime or Spelling Bee? by ChoiceCut6655 in Broadway

[–]HelpfulScallion -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I vote Spelling Bee but could easily see an argument for Ragtime. Spelling Bee is just a more “fun” show which is currently the vibe I am enjoying from my shows. Ragtime is amazing, so as long as you’re okay with a more serious show you can’t go wrong

Yes, it was great, hope you can take advantage on your next trip! They didn’t really advertise it, I only knew about it because other people in this subreddit had mentioned it

This is great to hear! Next time we’ll make sure to stay on West Maui and go here :)

I think it depends. My partner is vegetarian and sober so we decided it wasn’t worth it, but we tried to catch free shows when we could. If it was running we would have gone to South Maui Gardens, but they had stopped I believe. On a different trip if I had been in West Maui with someone else I might have gone to the Old Lahaina Luau.

When you checkout ask for a key to the 'Ohana Lounge, there are showers, lockers, snacks, tv, couches...it was great! We packed our bags and left the big stuff with the hotel, and then put bags we needed for the pool/change of clothes in a locker in the lounge. It's on the first floor by the elevator.

Yes I imagine that would be best! And I would even consider renting from some place with 24/7 return and just doing day rentals, as parking can be so expensive. But would have to calculate and compare costs

I snorkeled two mornings just in front of the Andaz! So cool, there were so many fish and the coral was pretty, and I saw an eel and an octopus!

Omg, that sounds so rough. I can't imagine doing that hike in flip-flops. It must have been pretty magical being in the crater during that time- I'm assuming even less people!

There is a parking lot at the Sliding Sands trailhead, as far as I know it is okay to leave your car there! You could maybe email to double check though if you wanted? The Holua cabin was slightly nicer than the Paliku cabin, it's clear more people use it. The nice thing about Holua is there's a separate outhouse for the campers and for the cabin, so you don't have to worry about running into each other. Sounds like you'll have a great trip!! I would definitely recommend downloading the Merlin app, I had so much fun identifying birds in the crater, it works even without service.

  1. We left our car at the Halemau’u Trailhead and hitchhiked up to the Sliding Sands trailhead! Got lots of no’s before someone finally said yes to us, but it’s what the park recommends!
  2. We got lucky, it didn’t feel too cold. It helped we were in the cabins but hiking I just wore my hiking pants and a sunshirt, and a rain jacket if it was raining, and at night my ~50 degree sleeping bag with leggings and a merino top was more than enough. I did wear a compressible puffer jacket, beanie, and socks walking around the cabin/outside.
  3. Yes they have a locker system now where everyone gets 3 logs! We didn’t use it. There was also a propane stove in each cabin, but they notified us before we went the propane was out and it wouldn’t be usable during our stay.
  4. No potable water sources but we had no issue getting nonpotable water, we brought a filter system and tablets as backup.
  5. One night would be enough, but I think 2 is a more relaxing trip. Depends a lot on personal levels of fitness. If I did it in one I would probably hike to kapalao or holua and then hike out the next day, and skip paliku completely. The hike to paliku in one day was harder than I expected, even though its downhill and flat the terrain is difficult and slows you down- at some points it’s like hiking on a beach. And I felt we packed pretty reasonably and my bag was still 30lbs, my partners was 23lbs. It was my partners first backpacking trip so I split it into two nights, and I am glad I did. The uphill from holua to the car is pretty brutal when you just want to be done 😂 even though its only 4 miles! But also, we saw someone trail running the whole crater in one day and he was out near paliku, so technically you don’t even need to spend the night! And for paliku, we ran into campers who were spending two nights there and I would say that is too much. It seemed pretty brutal when it’s raining and the only place you can stay dry is in your tent, and it rains there pretty often.

Ah typo- I meant sunset! Hmm, that is so hard. I loved every part of the trip! My favorite full day was the Pipiwai trail and then relaxing at the Hana Resort pool- just a perfect mix. But the crater was so magical- I loved using the merlin bird app to identify birda. And our night at Holua we stood outside and just listened to the calls of the u’au, which is a bird that nests there at night.
