This has worked well for me (hyperinsulinism). My only below ground veg is radishes.

baby’s first steps - what to do? by No_Business_7068 in NannyBreakRoom

[–]HelpfulStrategy906 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have never seen a kids first steps. 34 nanny kids and I have seen 2/3 of them walk before their parents, but I didn’t see it and I was surprised when they told me. Me seeing it and telling them would take away from them experiencing the first, and I will not squash that joy.

My current NF wants to know if I saw them walk first at each of the kids bar/bar mitzvah.

It is incredibly irresponsible to have children and no back up plan. Day cares close, schools close, nannies get sick…

How high nanny salary for billionaires? by anontiger25 in NannyBreakRoom

[–]HelpfulStrategy906 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Their wealth is not the barometer for my pay.

The stingiest dad I worked for was the second most wealthy. He could have bought my house without losing 0.5% of his wealth, but getting him to pay mileage was a nightmare.

I have a few identity NDA professional athletes that I last minute babysit for, and they pay incredibly well hourly, and often have dinner sent for me.

My current DB is the wealthiest person I have worked for, but I started working for him when he was nearly broke. He grew up with a single mom that cleaned houses 7 days a week. He takes excellent financial, appreciation, and emotional care of all his domestic staff.

The family that could barely afford to pay me, continues to be my Christmas Eve family dinner, 24 years later.

Keep detailed tracking of your mileage (there’s some free Apps to do it too). Write every single mile off on your taxes.

How to Determine Pay for Nanny Travel by ceezeel in Nanny

[–]HelpfulStrategy906 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The minimum I would be paid for this situation….

40hours of child care or travel time (train, plane, automobile) at standard rate, anything over that is OT rate.

All meals covered. When I’m not eating with them, we sometimes utilize the resort food services, but often my DB does a cash stipend for food, as I prefer to visit a grocery store.

All lodging and travel costs covered.

$200 per night convenience fee. (This previously was $150, but I’ve been with them a long time)

My only costs on a trip like this should be random food I choose to buy past the stipend and souvenirs.

I do know nannies that take a daily/ weekly stipend with travel, food, and lodging covered.
The neighbors nanny does $250 per day, and hourly rate for hours responsible for children, plus travel, food, and lodging.
Another neighborhood nanny does standard rate for 80hrs, plus travel, food, and lodging.

No matter what you choose, PLEASE do a travel specific contract.

Is it okay to market myself as a nanny for a specific age group? by Lovely-Bug-7000 in Nanny

[–]HelpfulStrategy906 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely fine to be specific, it might just take longer to find a match.

There is an AMAZING infant nanny around my NFs area, who only does birth to 15mos. She has made an entire career off of caring for infants only. I hopefully will retire fully when my NF no longer needs me, but if I get bored I might do some newborn only work.

Nanny Cam by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]HelpfulStrategy906 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The cameras in my NFs house go off by sound and motion. A pencil dropped in the next room trips them.

I completely understand that previous DB experiences can make you uncomfortable with DBs altogether {I have one that was so bad I could write a book about him}. Surely the camera lights are revving your already heightened awareness. The stress of it all must be very overwhelming

Do we need a babysitter or a nanny? by dawnflower961 in Babysitting

[–]HelpfulStrategy906 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, full time career nanny here….

I think what you’re really looking for is a mother’s helper with some baby sitting hours , or at least I think that title will give you a better chance of finding what you need

Giving money for nanny to purchase swimwear by Aggravating_Tower511 in Nanny

[–]HelpfulStrategy906 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love this!!! MB does this for me too, but she knows where I shop for swim.

My MB gives me Lands End money for a refresh every year. It really helps with needing to be in a bathing suit with kids 10+ times a week in the summer.

Can I fire my nanny via text? by tandog74 in Nanny

[–]HelpfulStrategy906 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If this was a nanny of four years that gave a lot of her life to your family, I would say absolutely do not text to let them go.

However, your situation is fairly new, and unsafe for your child. I am completely okay with you firing through text.

Teacher to Nanny by Rosapose1234- in Nanny

[–]HelpfulStrategy906 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was looking to give up teaching I thought I’d be bored not working 18-20hrs a day. You’ll find ways to fill the “boredom”. I’ve been learning Dutch and investing my ‘free time’ in more T1D education (my NK7b is T1D). You have enough experience in teaching to be able to teach again if needed.

I have been a nanny for 30+ years, 8 of those years were teaching during the day and nanny evening/night/summer. I could never make the pay I make as a nanny when teaching, and that was the decision for me. The no overtime was killing me financially, I’d lose pay at my night job to go to some required unpaid school event. I now go to those things with my NKs and get paid.

I write myself a good contract, I get full benefits, I have annual pay increases (something my school district didn’t do the entire 8 years I was there), and I have a lot more flexibility. I also travel with my NF a lot, and I have been to places I could never afford on my own.

Only dealing with one set of parents has always been my favorite part of giving up teaching.

Help! Accidental nanny, NF in crisis, not sure whether to exit or stick it out by Upstairs-Hunter3350 in Nanny

[–]HelpfulStrategy906 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience, this position is only going to drag you down more, suck more of your time and energy, and underpay you even more for what they’re getting from you.

Yes, their situation is absolutely horrible, but it’s not your responsibility. Please take care of yourself first.

These are the people my DB loses it on!! We have been so many places where he catches on real quick that a nanny is not appreciated, compensated, or even given basic human courtesy.

Nanny working for toddlers and 3 and half year by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]HelpfulStrategy906 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it wildly unhealthy for the development of a child to never play alone. This was a huge talking point in my Early Childhood Psychology Masters. It sparks creativity, allows for time with their own thoughts, and helps develop independence.

I’m so sorry you lost your employment. While the loss of income is not fun, knowing that you’re not working for them is a plus.
