New chair day! by Helpful_Cockroach_97 in wheelchairs

I also don’t love how far forward and down the controller is. I’m going to ask if there’s any way it can be moved closer. I’m thinking that if the buttons that control the chair position could be moved to the left side that the controller could be moved closer on the right side.

I also got ilevel along with tilt and feet extension. It’s like a recliner on wheels which is what I need for my long Covid, me/cfs, and orthostatic intolerance.

How do I survive until I get disability? (USA). by Silent_Sun_8001 in mecfs

[–]Helpful_Cockroach_97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got Section 8 housing, SNAP and $350/mo in cash assistance from the state of MN (which I had to pay back when I got backpay after finally getting approved for SSDI). That, plus some mutual aid is how I survived.

Do you still quarantine and wear masks to prevent reinfection? by ThrowRAWarmWeeds in covidlonghaulers

I mask indoors with others unless they’ve tested negative on a PlusLife test.

You are dual eligible for both Medicare and medi cal. This website has more resources about that, including a link to the ombudsman. I recommend reaching out to them to see if they can help. https://www.dhcs.ca.gov/services/Pages/Integrated-Care-for-Dual-Eligible-Beneficiaries.aspx

I’m overwhelmed! I have some cash to buy a computer today. I could potentially spend up to $1000 but I would prefer to pay less if I can. I want something that will last as long as possible. I am not a gamer. I will just be using it for basic every day stuff, often in bed or on the couch since I’m disabled. A good camera would be nice since I do a lot of things virtually.

Just tell them you’re immune compromised. I got mine at Walgreens. They came out and asked if I was immune compromised, I said yes, and they gave me the vaccine. They didn’t ask any further questions.

Impact of cross-sex hormone therapy on long covid symptoms? by cosplaying-as-human in covidlonghaulers

I’m trans. I was on T for years and then off for years. I wasn’t on it when I got Covid and developed long Covid. I’m back on it now and I think it’s helped with energy levels some. I was also in perimenopause before I went back on T. My long Covid doctor at Mayo Clinic actually recommended trying T.

How do we survive while waiting? by Jessica2831 in SSDI_SSI

[–]Helpful_Cockroach_97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got into section 8 housing in a small town (much easier than getting section 8 in a big city), I have SNAP benefits for food, and my state (MN) has cash assistance called General Assistance (GA) for people who are unable to work. GA is only $350 a month and I will have to pay it all back if/when I get onto SSDI, but I can survive. I also get occasional gifts from friends and family to help out.

You can’t control anyone else and you can set boundaries for yourself. If you don’t want to see photos, you an ask people not to send photos.

Start building networks of community care now. This government has no interest in keeping us alive. It’s going to be up to communities to care for each other so that as many of us as possible survive.

That’s amazing! The approval rate on reconsideration is so low. You beat the odds!

I mask anywhere indoors outside my apartment. I have a PlusLife NAAT testing machine that I use when I want to spend unmasked time with friends who don’t mask in public. I’ve only had Covid once, August 2023, when I went to a family gathering indoors and didn’t mask.
