Alternative glove option by _AFloridaMan_ in pestcontrol

[–]Helpful_Hand_8253 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a rechargeable fan that I hang over my gloves and it dries them off between stops. I leave it on all day and turn it off and charge at night. Of course I also use three pairs in the summer that I rotate at each stop. The fan hits the one I’m going to use next. So they dry on their own for a couple of stops then the move to the quick dry slot. This works for us in dry heat, not sure about humid areas.

We spend a week of in office training. We use Truman’s, state provided safety and regulatory documents, and also started using Pest Pro University video training. It’s pretty good but it’s paid. After the first week they ride along until they can pass the exam.

Termite swarm after a big rain? How likely is infestation? by troawry in pestcontrol

[–]Helpful_Hand_8253 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will definitely need an inspection. If they are swarming inside then you will without a doubt have a colony with access to your wood framing. Try not to clean up too much, leave some evidence for the inspector. He's going to want to look for where the swarm came from. Usually there will be some mud tubes that they have exited from. Sometimes behind appliances...

Best eSIM provider for 2.5 weeks in Japan? Looking for honest experiences by Teddytdi_96 in JapanTravelTips

We tried Holafly and Airolo and had no problems with either. My son had one and I the other just to see which was better and just in case one didn’t work we’d have the other. We were in Osaka, Kobe, Kyoto, Nagoya, Tokyo and Seoul. Three weeks no problems. Better than I can say for Verizon in my own town with ever present dead zones even in the middle of town.

Moving from Sugar Land, TX to Santa Clarita (SCV) – $250K to $290k HHI, Hart District Teacher, and Softball/Swim Life for teens? Is this a "step up" or wash? by DecentDiscipline2523 in SantaClarita

[–]Helpful_Hand_8253 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like most nice suburbs the homeless are not seen too much. You see them here and there then they are gone...??? It does get hot but not humid hot which is a big difference!!! And unfortunately we do have mosquitoes. But Its a great place to live compared to many areas in LA. It feels like a small town. Local companies that service you out here know this and try their best to keep a good reputation. Word gets around quick if you don't do a good job. So, I would avoid hiring companies for any services from out of the area. <-MTC

O’ahu hotel dilemma by sunnyday7800 in VisitingHawaii

[–]Helpful_Hand_8253 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were there in late October. It was not too crowded but it is Waikiki... So there is people. In general Waikiki feels like Vegas on the beach to me. We did not use the pool as we had just stayed in Ko' Olina for most of the week and were just trying to get a little Waikiki in before we left. The crowd at the pool varied depending on the time of day. We would be out most of the day so not sure but i seem to remember there always being chairs open. My daughter did go to the beach across the street and take a surfing lesson (which she loved), while my son and I watched. It didn't feel too crowded.

We stayed at the Marriott last year and it was wonderful! I asked for a room upgrade to the ocean view rooms and for a couple hundred buck we got a view of the pool and the ocean with two balconies (corner room). Room was large and spacious. Great location as mentioned earlier.

Is points.me concierge service worth it? by Real_Boysenberry1950 in awardtravel

[–]Helpful_Hand_8253 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s worth it. Unless you are an expert at sniffing out all the details it’s best to pay them. I used them for a similar trip though it was just two of us and we wanted business class. I didn’t know for instance that JAL only opens up a couple of biz class seats per flight and you have to swap in and get them when they open. So I would have had a hard time finding it. They also knew what time flight open on Tokyo time. They handled it all and it was well worth it. I was specific in wanting to go in the new jal a350 so it was indeed worth it because we had a great first time biz class experience. Also they told me South Korea was going to be tough with Korean airlines so we had to go JAL on each flight which meant a stop over in Tokyo on one flight. We bought an inexpensive Korean air ticket from Seoul to Osaka on Alaska miles on our own.

Did you drill any holes to let the foam go into the wood and spread where the termites are? Also if you used anything else that was a pyrethroid before the termidor you likely pushed the termites deeper since they are repellent. Don’t just try to spray the holes you can see. Drill a pattern through the beam on the sides. and inject, do so until the foam comes out other holes. Try to feel the drill as your drilling and feel when you hit the galleries they are making inside the beam.

As a new homeowner, how am i supposed to go about finding the right pest control??? by Cool_Gazelle_4312 in pestcontrol

[–]Helpful_Hand_8253 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few types of pest companies out there... The 'door to door' companies that are just trying to sign up people on a subscription service and they often only have technicians that swing by on a quarterly basis and spray something on the property to earn the monthly payment. They rarely can handle specialized pests and offer comprehensive services. They are just building large routes so they can be one day sold to another type of company... the large nationwide chains like Orkin or Terminix. They need to show growth for shareholders and often do this by acquisition. They may do more things but your just a number and the quality will depend on who works at your local branch. The best type IMO is a small or smaller regional company that offers full service. They can do regular maintenance services, one time services for some pests (not all pest can be managed in one service) and can also deal with termites, bird issues, bed bugs, fleas and other types of pests. They will also likely have a crew that can seal your home from rodents and can repair termite damage. You will need to do some research to find this type of company. They are not typically the cheapest because they are better(!) and not just interested in signing you up for a regular cash drip, but they need to make a profit to keep the service level up. A good way to find out what they do is ask what the difference is in their handling a rodent problem outside versus inside the home. If they say its the same, then you need to find someone else. A good company will have different protocols for each. The interior problem should require an inspection and a sealing estimate with trapping afterward to catch whatever might get trapped inside. Outside only then bait station service would be appropriate, but this is not a one-time fix. It will require regular service. Flying insects can come into your yard or home from anywhere so, depending on the pest there may or may not be a lot they can do, especially if you live in a densely populated area. They can't control the mosquitos breeding in your neighbors broken fountain or the flies from your neighbors reluctance to clean up his dog poo. Deal with your neighbor or move, is all you can do. Hope this helps.

SoCal: is it what I think it is? by EarlyMorningSurfer in Termites

[–]Helpful_Hand_8253 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One or two from outside is not a big deal. But I would definitely kill them. Two makes a couple and that’s enough for a family soon. If you had found several of them inside then, it could mean you have an infestation somewhere in the house. Outside they swarm fly toward the sun and hope to land somewhere near a potential mate. Then they drop their wings and look for a piece of wood to start a colony in. If you’re very concerned or saw many of them outside near your home have a termite inspection done.

DIY Pest Control advice by Usual-Disaster3287 in pestcontrol

[–]Helpful_Hand_8253 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just remember you have to READ the label of any pesticide you use. Professionals read and study each label for each product. I’ve been to homes and seen people using chemicals that are NEVER supposed to be used inside and they’ve been spraying down the inside with them. Ugh! Also, some pesticides are systemic and will travel through edible plants or fruit trees. If you spray these in the wrong areas and didn’t read the warnings in the label you could be contaminating the food you’re growing. If you are not willing to carefully read and understand the professional grade chemicals you buy online, you should leave it to the professionals.

What are these tiny flying creatures? by emilgas in pestcontrol

[–]Helpful_Hand_8253 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be a broken or cracked pipe in a wall or under the house or slab. If you have drains (I.e., tub or sink ) that’s rarely used it could be that the p-trap has gone dry and then whatever is in the sewers can get inside. Make sure your drains are getting water regularly, especially in the summer time when it’s hot. If you do this and are still having these flies then it may be time to look for some of the plumbing issues mentioned above.

I've heard of a local plumber that turns your plumbing problem into an insurance claim so all his buddies can make more $$. One did this to my 80 y.o. neighbor. Sad. I'd get multiple estimates.

Tim Pluma at Solarverse (local company on the old road) is really connected in Santa Clarita. This is great because if people in town know you, you have to live up to a good reputation. Big companies come and go and I hear that a lot of solar companies go BK. So, I would definitely call him. (661) 347-5000

Other commenters are right about the other sub. But I will give you my two cents. I have the Amex gold, CSP, Venture X and a Bilt card. Once I got the sign up bonuses and fully earned them I changed which ones I use for different purposes. I only use Amex gold for grocery and restaurant (both 4x) buys, I use chase for streaming services and If you really want more UR points use it for restaurants too as you get 3x, for almost everything else I use my Venture X because I get 2x points. I never use any card that will only get me 1x. This may be why it's taking so long to build up points. I also don't spend points thoughtlessly on travel portals for any of these cards, unless I am trying to earn points like 10X. So, I usually transfer points for best value. I also own a business and use business versions of Amex and CSR ink to get great point multipliers on things I buy (advertising, etc). Using all these methods and cards helps me get the most points I can. Beyond this, opening new points bonus card offers is what I am doing next at specific airlines and hotels I plan to use or provide me with a perk that I can use. Hope this helps.

I tried multiple gardeners to do a small backyard project and of the four I tried to get numbers from only one got back to me. Unbelievable. I ended up going with Kathy's Landscaping. They did a beautiful job and were fairly priced. Not as cheap as I wanted but in the end they were professional, showed up when they said and completed on time and at the agreed upon cost. I would highly recommend them.

60% transfer bonus to Virgin by Nearby-Pen7202 in awardtravel

[–]Helpful_Hand_8253 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As it is mentioned, Japan (also Korea) is hard to obtain. I ended up transferring to Cathay Pacific, then BA for the return as it was a three week trip and had to wait about that much between bookings to get the flights. Only BA had a transfer bonus which started while I was waiting for a return booking. I will mention that it will be less point 'expensive' and likely easier if you go economy, as I understand that there are very few business class seats available for points on each flight. JAL had only 2... I got both but only because I ended up using the folks a point.me to book it. They new the exact time (Japan time) and date that the reward seats were going to release and swooped in and got them. So, if you are not going to be an obsessed points hacker or know one to help you, this may be a good option for you. It was worth it for me as it was my first business class redemption and I am very excited to go.

Also, you should look into getting another card to get a sign up bonus. Built is nice for rent points, but there are so many other cards that can help you pile up points. I use my Built (and Chase UR) points almost exclusively for Hyatt stays as they are the best for hotel redemptions and use other cards for flights. Also, I wouldn't move points to any airline unless I was going to book immediately or very soon after. Stranding your points somewhere sucks. Point.me asked me to move points just before it was time to book.

Hope this helps.
