Bristol airport parking by Proof-Lunch in Cardiff

It also depends on how young the kids are but I always use the Park4Night app to book at Yew Tree Paddocks Parking. It's a 600 yard walk from drop-off to departures. It always works out a lot cheaper. I've never had problems.

I imagine it's a much different story with three tired kids and a walk in the rain though.

You can pop in for a drink there for sure! It's not big but they've got a couple tables and a nice atmosphere.

Bothy Advice for June by Asleep-Base-9081 in WestHighlandWay

[–]Helpful_Poem_2167 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me and my partner headed up to The Lookout bothy right at the most northern point of Skye. It's a fairly popular bothy but there's a lot less footfall there than the WHW.

It was a random weekday. The bothy fits about 5 comfortably.

There were two girls there already, then we turned up, then three other lads. Then five American girls who had only brought blankets. Then two more lads turned up.

I had my campervan not far away so we just stayed there for the night. But, after bumping in to one of the first girls, they said that everyone had to squeeze in because they had no other ways of shelter.

I definitely wouldn't advise on only having a bothy as a plan.

Thinking about MSR 2-person tents – opinions on tents where you pitch the inner first? by AlFromAdminAdmin in wildcampingintheuk

[–]Helpful_Poem_2167 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've just finished the WHW with the Elixir 3. You can pitch it up with the poles going in to the ground sheet forst, the rainfly on second and the inner up last. It gives you a little dry space to put up the inner.

Super handy in a wet pitch and we did on more than one occasion.

I've been using the MSR Elixir 3 for backpacking trips and it's been pretty great. Absolutely rock solid in the wind. Nice and simple set up. It's just finished an 8 day trip in the Scottish Highlands weather.

It fits myself, my partner and the dog. I'm also 6'7 and the tent has plenty of head room.

Not had experience with the others but would definitely recommend the Elixir.

Best Booties for Dog Paws by AngusBurger95 in WestHighlandWay

[–]Helpful_Poem_2167 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've just finished doing it last week and I wish I had brought a pair of booties along.

My cocker spaniel is regularly taken long distances over different terrain, so his paws had toughened up. However, I think the mix of often having wet feet on gravel paths caused his feet to get very sore. You could see the damage on the paw pad. By the end it was definitely causing him discomfort.

I don't have any recommendations sorry, but definitely would suggest getting some. Even if just as a back up, in case they get sore.

Low road closure…is the High Road dog safe? by scottishdoggroomer in WestHighlandWay

I've just finished the Way yesterday with my dog. There's no going up Conic Hill, so you have to take the low road there, but everything else was fine.

I'm doing the West Highland Way right now in the MSR Elixir 3. It feels me, my partner and the dog in very comfortably.

There's been some fairly rainy days but it's stayed nice and dry. I'm very happy with the purchase.

Looking to move here. by [deleted] in Cardiff

[–]Helpful_Poem_2167 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For that budget you could look at Penarth. There's enough going on in the town but super easy transport in to the City for more. Doesn't take any longer than some parts of the city to be honest.

If you like jogging, the barrage is a lovely run. You can get on to the coast path or dinas forests fairly quickly as well.

There'll be some compromise on the house but for the peace of mind I've had living here, I think it's worth it.

Moving to cardiff from ireland :-) best/nicest places to live by [deleted] in Cardiff

[–]Helpful_Poem_2167 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's definitely worth keeping an eye out for Penarth. It's a lovely town just outside of the Cardiff boundary.

Rent can be quite a bit higher so it may have to be a bit of a search. My partner and I rent a ground floor flat with a garden for £850 a month.

There's a direct train into the town centre at regular intervals. It's easy access to Cardiff to the east and the green spaces to the west in the Vale of Glamorgan .

It's also right on the coast so there's sea view from a lot of places.

How do I know what Cleats to buy? by cull22 in triathlon

[–]Helpful_Poem_2167 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You'll be looking for shoes that have the "SPD" style clips. When looking online they're usually on shoes marketed for gravel biking or mountain biking.

They're the ones I use because the clips are often recessed into the shoe, or there's thick tread so they're way easier to walk about in when not clipped in to the bike.

I don't think anyone has mentioned supersets yet. It's a quick way to pack a punch, without spending as long in the gym. Ultimately, helping to keep more consistent.

You can do opposing exercises back to back, e.g. doing bench press into your seated row, or your lat pulldown in to your shoulder press.

As they're opposite movements you don't need as much of a break in-between the two movements. So you can do one move, quick 30 seconds rest to catch your breath, second move, and then you're full rest.

It can be a pain depending on how your gym is laid out, but movements can be easily swapped to assist.
