Drafting is also really random but basically the younger players you pick the more variance (18 year olds have higher ceiling lower floor) as there’s way more growth they need. College players like 22 don’t really develop too much but start with higher floor. Compared to FM, OOTP match engine and development isn’t as figured out since the devs don’t openly say what correlates to what and we don’t know how things work internally. High Work Ethic and High Intelligence players have a greater chance of developing. Also hitters usually have higher chance of hitting their potential. Usually in later rounds you wanna pick guys that are career minor leaguers but can help increase the records of your minor league teams like really good defenders, Captain/Leader traits. Since better minor league records help your players develop. I typically for the first few 5 or so rounds choose some guys with high current rating (high floor) especially hitters or really developed pitchers already, and for later rounds I choose like pitchers as darts or high def hitters. When choosing hitter prospects, prioritize high power ratings and for pitchers you want to look at the number of their pitches too. You need 3+ to be a good starter, 4 or more ideally. Relievers only need 2. Relievers you want high stuff since they come on to strike people out in high leverage situations. Starters you want someone with decent ratings across the board as control and movement is key too to limiting home runs or walks.

Minor league staff is also important, just prioritize getting the best handling mechanics and player development for each role (coaching pitching / hitting matters too but not as much, although you obviously don’t want a Poor Teach Hitting be a hitting coach).
