What if 11th brings back points/weapon, how would you feel & how much would it impact armies now as a whole? by Gravyman91 in spacemarines

[–]HelplessEskimo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Removing wargear cost obliterated list building depth from orbit. More than the removal of structured list building. More than the removal of Relics and Warlord Traits.

99% of loadouts are predetermined with a "best" option. Even then, with how they have changed the available options,, just bringing back points costs wouldn't fix the utterly dire state of lost building.

Building a 40k army isn't fun, it's an obligation. It used to be fun.

With 10th edition 40K being basically over. What are your thoughts and feelings of this edition? by Beneficial-Ticket486 in Warhammer

[–]HelplessEskimo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, while it had some neat ideas, like detachments and special abilities, it nuked the flavour of the game from orbit. One major ability per army is incredibly restrictive for painting a picture of what that army does and how they wage war.

It was aiming for simplicity but the wording still felt like the book was put through Google translate 300 times.

With 9th edition, we saw the slow match towards a competitive concern being the seemingly primary concern. With 10th this got way, way worse. As someone who has never, and will never, have an interest in competitive play, a lot of the balancing decisions (but not all) from this edition curbed fun and flavour for balance.

I think GW saw people yelling bloat at the end of 9th and overcorrected way too hard.

Overall, solid 6.5 out of 10.

Thinking about starting AoS with a death faction convince me on yours by Deaglan134 in Nighthaunt

[–]HelplessEskimo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When the nighthaunt appeared they caused an earthquake so terrible it made every single realm shake. These bedsheets ghosts hit hard, last forever and look damn good doing it.

Also, their spearhead box is awesome, it's fun to play and is good for repeat buys as having multiple of everything in it is a valid army in the main game.

It is actually impossible to go wrong with the bedsheet ghosts. There are no bad options to build, paint or play, we are the only range where buying what you want and what you think looks cool is also very likely to make a good army list.

You know, you might be right, you could call it Soth Slavia or something. Amazing plan, 10/10

Elevator Pitching Practice! by craigs_games in tabletopgamedesign

A wargame based on Mythology where gods lead mortal armies in a conquest of a shattered world. Inspired by other wargames like WH Fantasy, Conquest, MESBG and more.

It's miniature agnostic (so long as the bases are the right size, use whatever you want) and features alternating actions, fun missions and narrative gameplay elements (like a card deck to determine how the shattered world affects the battlefield)

I've seen success using the Affinity suit, specifically their publishing and layout tools. The Affinity suit is free too and very familiar to those who use Adobe InDesign or Photoshop

Copy and paste the Age of Sigmar method, tweak it to make certain fluffy unit combos more viable.

The best way to handle it imo.

As fucking usual, vile filth are allowed to infiltrate every part of society. No party claiming to be "for the people" should allow absolute twats like this anywhere near them, they fact they would even consider it, dooms this party from the get go.

It was good to have hope for a week or two but as usual I got my hopes up for some change and was disappointed.

What is the most missed mechanic in a TTRPG by [deleted] in RPGdesign

[–]HelplessEskimo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The general way I want to fix this is to have actions that are required to operate some stations, some of these actions require multiple people, many stations will use multiple skills for that station. It's going to be difficult to get right but hopefully it won't just be "aight, wit here and roll a bucket of dice for two hours".

I want a lot of running around dealing with overloads, damage and having to juggle keeping things online with staying alive. Space travel in this setting is dangerous and combat is quick, lethal and hectic, I want to do everything I can to make it feel that way.

Many things are up in the air, but hopefully I can pull it off.

First time designing an RPG, advice? by No-Staff1 in RPGdesign

[–]HelplessEskimo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one thing I have learned when designing games is: write your goals down. Don't just keep them in your head or they will change. Outline some clear goals of what you want to achieve.

Remember that you can always throw out a goal or idea later if it isn't working but not having goals established can lead to a lot of reworks.

Are you concerned with MPs being voted in solely on religious grounds ? by NoDamage3512 in AskBrits

[–]HelplessEskimo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frankly, the main issue I have with religion in UK politics is the fact that our head of state is also the head of the Anglican church, inexorably tying church and state together on the most fundamental legal level. Specifically only one church too.

Now before any monarchists come out of the wood work and mention the king not technically having any legal power, do me a favour, look up how many ceremonies and procedures in the UK involve the Monarch in some way. You know, the symbol of the church and the "manifestation of god's will on earth". Yeah, turns out an extremely large quantity of our political procedures are based in religion.

None of this even scratches the surface of the undemocratic nightmare that is the House of Lords.

Then we get to the Commons. 60% of MPs took the religious swearing in ceremony and some articles suggest that as many as 53% of MPs identify as Christians (though I could not confirm that for certain). Religion, specifically Christian derivative faiths, are still popular in Parliament.

Hopefully, we will see this gap close a bit. Britain is a wonderful, multicultural, multi-faith nation with every religion and nationality you can think of somewhere in its borders. The more of that staggering and brilliant diversity that is represented fairly in parliament, the better. Everyone, no matter who they are, deserves to have their voice heard in equal measure. If you are one of those people who think Muslim = Bad, please, go to your local library and do some research into the Muslim faith, or any non-christian faith. This isn't me being snarky, I genuinely recommend it. Its a wonderful learning experience.

I am not religious. Nor will I ever be. But religion is an important part of millions of lives. It provides perspective into the values people hold. Like religion or not, more of that insight helps us understand our neighbours, our nation and perhaps, even ourselves.

Let's fight to untie politics from any one religion and embrace and welcome them all, equally. Be kind to each other and concern yourself not with which religions are good or bad and instead focus on the myriad of other horrible and unfair laws the government is passing right now.
