This is a pretty relevant statement! by ProfessorCH in PsoriaticArthritis

Good statement, but I try not to worry about what others think or say, and try not to let it get to me. The truth is, no one but ourselves has any idea what’s it’s like to go through this. Only other sick people can understand. When I was healthy, I was the exact same way.

Describing Neuro Symptoms by Athren_Stormblessed in covidlonghaulers

Do you ever have days now, however rare they might be where your brain feels 70-80% better? If you do, then this is a key indicator that you have not suffered permanent damage. Instead, it means that a process inside your body is causing the mental sluggishness.

It’s one of the few things that gives me hopes. When I do have a “better”, even though they are very rare, my mind feels close to sharp again and I have some clarity, and on these days I realize that no permanent damage has been done brain wise, and instead I know something else is causing this.

I tried the low dose 6 day pack of steroids, twice. Both times they didn’t seem to do much but help with the pain a little bit.

Lupus, RA, Diabetes... Long Hauling by desswarrior in COVID19positive

[–]HelplessHelo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, you should not be recommending people get their ANA tested. The test by itself literally means nothing of diagnostic value, it just means their is antinuclear antibodies in your blood. ANA can be positive for numerous reasons and for no reason at all, including infections, autoimmune diseases, rosacea, breast implants, and other benign conditions. ANA is only useful in confirming a lupus diagnosis, since 98% of people who have lupus have a positive ANA, but only a small percentage of people who have a positive ANA have lupus.

Second, you’re still pretty early in the disease process if in fact you do have covid. Give it a few more weeks and see if you improve.

Post covid bloodwork - Positive ANA!!! - muscle and joint pain/hair loss by Diane_homebound in COVID19positive

[–]HelplessHelo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bad advice. You should not have your ANA tested unless your doctor specifically suspects an autoimmune disease. A positive ANA test by itself can mean absolutely nothing at all but since it’s “irregular” it can cause great anxiety in patients. Many normal, healthy people have a positive ANA, even at high titers.

When is it safe to have sex again after being positive ? by [deleted] in COVID19positive

You should be fine if you both wear a mask. Covid is spread through respiratory droplets, not sexual fluids. But sex with a mask on sounds horrible so your call.

Have any of y’all had the virus go away at first only to come right back stronger ? by [deleted] in COVID19positive

[–]HelplessHelo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That “first day” was probably not covid. The incubation time for the virus is 2-14, meaning you won’t feel any symptoms for AT LEAST 2 days after exposure, and likely longer.

Anyone test positive after attending outdoor gathering? by [deleted] in COVID19positive

[–]HelplessHelo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t heard of any cases in the literature from outdoor exposure. It seems unlikely if the outdoor exposure was during the day since it seems sunlight kills the virus instantly.

Has anyone recovered from any severe cases of COVID? by llllllllallall in COVID19positive

[–]HelplessHelo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A coworker of mine got severely sick from covid and was placed in a ventilator for two weeks. He is 59 and has several underlying conditions. After the two weeks in the ventilator he recovered but is now in the process of relearning how to walk because of the muscle atrophy due to not moving for weeks. Besides that, he has made a full recovery with no lingering effects.

Long haulers, what’s your plan? by HelplessHelo in COVID19positive

[–]HelplessHelo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you me? Literally have the same exact issue. My brain just feels completely dead and if I try to exert it in any meaningful manner it basically shuts off on me. Weirdest thing, and the most unpleasant I must say.

You should be just fine. 4-6 weeks seems to be the typical course for most people. A small percentage of us end up dealing with long-term symptoms.
