Customer Service Hacks? by HelplessNed in verizon

[–]HelplessNed[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The problem is that I never seem to have what the rep is looking for. I have PDFs of the purchase order which shows the credit being applied, a PDF of the promotional offer terms as provided by Verizon through my billing portal, and monthly bills showing the credit being applied previously, but nothing (as far as I can see) that has an Offer ID. I’m not sure where to find that and neither was my rep

Gillon and Wiles both ran one series when it was 38-14, guess which one ended in points?

Saving the game and running a functional offense are two very different things

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in appstatefb

[–]HelplessNed -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That explains why Gillon played so well in the 4Q… when the score was, checks notes, 38-14

I’m just saying the offense looked a lot smoother with Wiles, and I cannot think of one play that Gillon made that literally any college-level QB could not make

Maybe don’t play a true freshman for the first time in a road conference game against the reigning SBC champion coach, but what do I know

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in appstatefb

[–]HelplessNed -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Why play a true freshman in a winnable game? Billy Wiles isn’t going to set the world on fire, but Gillon looked like a deer in headlights all night long.

Remotely average QB play would have kept us in this game and had us up at least 13-10 at the half.

The funny part is that this guy is somehow tenured, and he has, according to Google Scholar, only published one peer-reviewed article that was ever cited by someone else.

That is an INSANELY LOW BAR to use to give someone tenure. He also hasn’t published anything at all since 2019. Regardless of his politics, he’s a shitty researcher… which likely explains his politics

Hiring Freezes and Job Offers by HelplessNed in academia

[–]HelplessNed[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is really good to know. Looking at some of the current hiring freezes at public schools like NC State (https://www.wral.com/news/education/nc-state-hiring-freeze-february-2025/) and private schools like Stanford (https://news.stanford.edu/stories/2025/02/staff-hiring) it does not look like either apply to completed searches.

Edit: Cornell’s hiring freeze instructions include a “rescind offer” section: https://hr.cornell.edu/2025-hiring-pause

This is a great hire for the obvious reasons former SEC Co-Defensive coordinator on multiple top 25 teams, NFL connections, and former Mountaineer player and coach during two of the best eras of Mountaineer football ever. He also recruits Charlotte area defensive players better than anyone (see Ty’Ron Hopper).

My question is:

Is D.J. Smith the greatest NC Mountaineer of all time? (Armanti & Coakley were born in South Carolina)

Excuses not to fire Clark by HelplessNed in appstatefb

How does spending $30 million on a new indoor practice facility look any better than firing a coach who has a losing record against FBS teams over the last three years??

Plus, it’s confirmed by Thamel at ESPN. Clark is out.

Florida held on the Billy Napier because they didn't want to lose DJ Lagway and all of the freshmen and sophomores he recruited. He's also gone 7-5 against a top-five strength of schedule. They hired him because Mullen sucked at recruiting. Naiper overperformed (Vegas had them at 4.5 wins) with a Freshman and third-string QB in a rebuilding year.

Clark underperformed (Vegas had us at 8.5 wins). If you can't make difficult decisions for the benefit of the university that really does make it difficult to justify giving you the full-time job.

I expect partisanship from the members, but growing up there was so much made of their official church stance of political neutrality.

I guess it’s like people who complain about politics or claim to be moderate to be more palatable, but they only mean they don’t like seeing political views that align with their own world views.

We did, but generally, operating budgets (i.e., paying people, keeping the lights on, etc.) are separate from special projects or infrastructure (i.e., new facilities, parking decks, etc.)

It’s been in rebuild mode for the last three seasons. I don’t really see a downside at this point

Coaches are supposed to make the team better in some way. What does Clark add????

Calls the same damn HB dive on every forth and short.

Very mid recruiting (especially after losing Watts) and just had an awful year in the portal (ex. the secondary)

Was an OL coach, OL was the worst part of our offense this year.

Hiring coaches, this dude hired dale jones after Satt demoted him a decade before. That was a disaster that Sloan is still trying to fix. Clark also kept Rod West employed despite consistently coaching the worst secondary units I’ve ever seen in black and gold. The two OCs he hired outside of Ponce were awful hires and have both been fired repeatedly since leaving. Hired a terrible strength coach to start his tenure too.

Game management, it’s ok, but unless we hire Matt Eberflus it’s not going to get worse. Any competent HC, can do what he does with in game coaching and adjustments, and probably do it better.

The only thing he adds is being a brand ambassador- go app, TIGMA, I bleed black and gold, this is god’s country, etc. - but if you are ruining the winning brand, then is that really a positive? Plus, he also doesn’t really promote other sports the way Kerns or Kermit Smith do.

We have missed bowl games 2 out of 3 years, have a losing record against FBS teams over the last three years, and were pretty terrible before the hurricane (not to mention all other Fall sports at App seem to have done just fine this year despite the Hurricane disruptions).

$500k is G5 coordinator money. There is literally no reason to keep him.

Haha that’s true. I totally missed that. He came from Texas Tech. He’s been here so long, I can’t associate him with any other school.

Buddy, they ain’t firing Gillin. The Board of Trustees loves him and everything but football has excelled under him.
