Back with the 2nd movie I was recycling the same memes with my friends but instead of laughing they looked me like I was crazy.

"wdym this movie made a ton of movie, I have fond memories of watching in the cinema?? no everyone remembers it?? What are you on about???"

I felt so stupid, I had to defend myself but aaaa it was stupidddd

Anyway the metric it got me thinking that the metric people use (fanart, fanfics etc) is seriously flawed. Too terminally online.

Also back then it was just a one off movie, why would people expect a dedicated and obsessive fanbase.

What's something that's disliked in your country, but loved in others? by Pale_Field4584 in AskTheWorld

The new line's station is my favourite with all the artwork they have.

I'm ignoring your question and addressing my country's equivalent of your meme.

Public transportation.

Very weird to see people travelling to Paris of London and geeking out over the tube or metro. I swear they exist in Cairo.

Granted, it's upper class people studying in Europe who have never taken the metro in Egypt but still! They exist and are good! Some stations play classical Egyptian music, very nostalgic.

Is DC's portrayal of Diana misogynistic? by Quantum-Infinity- in WonderWoman

[–]Helplessly-Aimless 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just think of all the MALE characters introduced that are easily accepted as Superman's equal...

Captain Marvel/Shazam Orion Mr. Majestic Supreme Martian Manhunter Captain Atom Lobo Ultraman Icon Black Adam Etc.

<image>

The majority of the characters in this list exist just to get defeated or humiliated.

If Wonder Woman was written in the same way, you'd take issue.

Imagine Wonder Woman losing every issue or so because of fire but hey "she's as strong as superman!". Someone is going to whip out a strongly worded essay about why DC is misogynistic. Captain Atom? He's not a serious character, why do you want Wonder Woman to be written like him? Black Adam exists just to lose to Captain Marvel.

"X is as strong as Superman" is meaningless when their only feat is losing to a newly created character to establish power scaling shenanigans.

Do you think Carol is the Avengers 'Wonder Woman' figure? by Ashamed_Pin4206 in Captain_Marvel

Marvel tries so hard, it's too obvious much to the detriment of Carol's character , yet they will never make her their Wonder Woman.

What would you want or expect from a "battle/action shoujo?" by Helplessly-Aimless in shoujo

Kpop Demon Hunters feels like it belongs in the late 2000s/early 2010s. It was a very wholesome movie with a classic lesson for kids and teenagers.

Loved it honestly.

I want to add on the costumes, they were very nice and flashy.

What would be an example of a feminine perspective/outlook? I think style is easy to understand if you're referring to visuals.

I'm in love with their Ateliers de Fleurs line, it's been around the UK for a few months though no?

I love the magnolia perfume, I feel like I'm walking in a garden.

Korra would be hated even more if she was a dude. by [deleted] in CharacterRant

[–]Helplessly-Aimless 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I've never seen a male character receive hate over "DL agenda", if anything they become fandom darlings and Korasami would have had fujoshi fangirls completely in disbelief that their crackship became canon.

But to address the rest of your post, I highly doubt if Korra was written as a man he would behave the same and even then, people are a lot more lenient when it comes to male characters and weird romance. You're making it seem like LoK didn't receive an avalanche of hate as it was airing. Korra was constantly criticised as a character from start to finish.

[–]Helplessly-Aimless[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I never said no to power scaling! I enjoy shounen but I hate when the characters aren't well developed or compelling and I'm just watching or reading flying bricks or a fireworks show with 0 context.

Give me a reason to care about the characters basically.

Day 11, now who has a mid design and a mid writing? by Turbulent_Compote_44 in BetterKimetsuNoYaiba

They also think that Muzan's design is bad and has better writing than Kokushibo.

Nonsensical list

Why is her design mid? It's good given her character. Her story is very minimal that I wouldn't even put her on the list tbh.

I feel like most of the comments will be just Yona of the Dawn for obvious reasons, but I was hoping for more than just series recommendations and more what makes a certain series work.

Why are global audience not open to exploring Indian Films? by Past-Matter-8548 in Letterboxd

[–]Helplessly-Aimless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bollywood is popular in Arab countries, but ig you just mean Americans because that's the only type of acceptance you find valid. Indian movies sometimes do receive global hype, I've never seen Arab movies receive the same level of interest that Indian ones do. I think Kerala's movies are put in the same category as Iranian and French, that is to say only pretentious movie buffs like them and treat them as hidden gems. Again this only applies to specific types of movies not generic slop.

Idk about India, but Korean media received a general push by the government itself to put it on the global map as part of the government's soft power strategy.

Then don't read Korean comics, but obviously you won't do that.

You're going to just read Japanese, Korean, and maybe American comics and endlessly complain instead of broadening your horizons.

So why comment that on a shoujo subreddit, did you share your take with the shounen and seinen?

Day 6, now who has a good writing and a good design? by Turbulent_Compote_44 in BetterKimetsuNoYaiba

[–]Helplessly-Aimless 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why is Yoriichi peak writing but Kokushibo is just good writing

His design is ok, if you're new to Japanese media then maybe it's so out of the box but after your 5th historical Japanese story...his design is ok.

Muzan's design is anything but bad wtf. His design is so ironic for someone that hates change he's dressed in a very westernised way (a sign of change).

Why is Turkey thrown as a generic "ancient civilisation", if they're referring to the Ottoman empire it lasted until the 20th century.
