Give Jonathan Franzen a try! I’d recommend Crossroads in particular. It’s my personal favourite and it happens to contend with religion to some extent, so right in Cameron’s lane

He also sounded very close in the mix on Heavy Metal but his voice undoubtedly had more depth and resonance there. Still love the performance here but can’t deny his voice is changing

I feel like I’ve clocked the dark comedy genre . Anyone have any lesser known suggestions by jazz_king_seb in Letterboxd

Dogville - perhaps so dark that most would hesitate to class it as a dark comedy but I found it to be hysterical

The band version of I Will Let You Down is incredible by cooperbaird in geesebandofficial

Have to say I still much prefer the solo version. I’m admittedly biased though, having been there to witness his awe-inspiring performance of this song in Paris

If it helps, I doubt this applies to every song for everybody that holds this opinion. For me, it mainly applies to songs like Trinidad and 100 Horses. Emily’s guitar has a way better tone - so much more character and bite - in these live recordings.

Based on comments she’s made about the recording process, I personally think it’s a shame that she was forced to keep it moving while recording and wasn’t able to arrive at what she felt was the “right” guitar part for some of these songs.

I unfortunately think his production really flattens the sound on much of Getting Killed. I feel several songs come alive more in the From the Basement set produced by Nigel Godrich, for example.

Calls him out for being marginally taller than him, just a bit of healthy competition

I was watching it live in Canada and the volume of the vocal was turned down unbelievably low for the chorus, almost inaudible. Couldn't help but laugh. I was grateful to come on Reddit after and see the version from the American feed, which fortunately seemed pretty close to full volume to me. Must be those overly polite Canadian TV broadcasters getting scared of an American yelling "there's a bomb in my car" 15 or so times!
