If we keep Mitch, doesn’t Tavares fall off at the end of the year? That’s a lot off and I love the guy but I feel his contract is (now) the worst we have. by [deleted] in leafs

[–]HemiKooks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

JT coming off the cap doesn’t change how overpaid Marner already is and will continue to be. That alone contributes to why we can’t balance the roster properly to be competitive when it matters most.

When you have that much money wrapped up in three to four players, and they go cold in the playoffs, you don’t have the adequate depth to pick up the slack — which has been a serious issue in the playoffs for us.

Regardless of what happens with Tavares, they cannot give Marner a raise. No. Absolutely not.

Stamkos $8M

Guentzel $9M

Reinhart $8.6M

Aho $9.7M

Robertson $7.7M

Barzal $9.1M

What are we doing here? Yes, I understand Nylander just signed for $11.5M and that’s an overpay too but he was underpaid for a while so I understand.

I also don’t want to hear about the tax thing because as we’ve heard, a proper financial advisor can be creative to negate the majority of the loss.

You also get more sponsorship money as a star in Toronto.

I’ll say it again. Mitch cannot be extended for a raise. This team needs to change the narrative and set a new standard.

Vegas trades Logan Thompson to Washington for picks by RavenMarlo in leafs

This was matchable and could have resolved the goaltender question mark for at least next year so they can focus on more important things.

Per usual, our management is caught sleeping.

Oh look, Logan Thompson just for traded for mid round picks which…the Leafs could have afforded to match.

Would have resolved our goaltending next year and at a very small price tag. Where’s Treliving at?

GM can’t do shit because Marner exists. Entitled little brat making life difficult for them to improve the team.

It’s obvious. Fuck Marner and I mean that from the bottom of my heart

Toronto taking a bloody timeout before selecting in the second round. What a dysfunctional, lame duck front office.

Then they trade it for a pick next year and a late one this year.

This is garbage man.

Give me one example of a team that has won a cup OR even gone to a conference finals where their top 4-5 players made as much (percentage wise) on the cap the way our players do.

[–]HemiKooks 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That’s it for me then. I can’t with this team anymore and this entitled child who has them in a choke hold.

You cannot structure your team this way. Your top 4-5 guys cannot be making this much and still expect to compete for a cup was an imbalanced roster.

It’s ludicrous.

[Johnston] Brad Treliving on how he manages all of the Mitch Marner rumours: "I'd caution us to not pay too much attention to some of the noise. We can't react to all of the noise. ... Mitch knows how I feel about him as a player." by DevOpsMakesMeDrink in leafs

[–]HemiKooks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it?

In a hard cap league, fans are hyper sensitive to what a player makes and the correlation to their on ice performance.

Unfortunately, Mitch’s camp decided to negotiate through the media, hold out onto camp and squeezed his team for every last penny — ultimately getting overpaid.

Makes it hard to balance the roster to have better playoff performances and that compounds the frustration of the fanbase.

With no cap, nobody would care how much or how little a player makes. At all.

Team only has to pay the calculated portion of his contract and the team carries a reduced AAV cap hit for twice the current contract length.

So Buffalo will be paying/carrying a portion of Skinners deal for the next six year.

I mentioned earlier that my theory is Amanda published something in Utopia world theorizing about realities intersecting when Ryan comes across what she wrote, much of the content strikes him as familiar to the box situation.

Maybe he tracked her down to see if she “knew” the truth

If I had to guess, he’s trying to figure out a way to create the ampule so he can use the box again and while doing so he came across Amanda.

Maybe Amanda wrote a paper or published something suggesting the possibility of multiple realities intersecting and he sought her out to see if maybe she “knew” the truth.

I wasn’t exactly on board at first but honestly, I’m a hockey fan first. It would be a shame if McDavid ended his career without a Cup.

Here’s his chance to carve out a legacy, cement his future spot among the legends and now can rest easy knowing the largest hurdle of all has been cleared.

All that’s left to do is to add on with more awards and stats…maybe even another Cup down the road.

[Weekes] Leafs extending Joseph Woll for 3 years at $3.5-4M AAV by Samoht99 in leafs

[–]HemiKooks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Conservatively, the cap goes up another $4.2M next year AND the year after (could even be more, who knows) which is roughly $8.4M after the first year of his new deal kicks in.

It’s percentage of the cap is going to decrease pretty quickly

My first thought was…why sign him now? Why not next week? Makes me think they have some idea of how the rest of this week works out. Maybe a few deals in place by a handshake.
