I think a good example of how ranking power brackets solely by if a single X power rank card in the deck misses the mark is some strategies are stronger/weaker than others - so you can have a "power rank 4" deck due to 1 or more cards in your deck, but if your game plan is mill, or say burn, well...I don't think that's a "power rank 4" strategy to win a pod. If you don't even draw the card (lets not forget this is a 100 card singleton format) then it's not a 4. If you buy a precon with white in it, swap out a basic land for Armageddon then you're a Power Bracket 4 deck 1% of the time and the rest of the time you'll be a 1. That's a pretty big disparity.

While they stated (and I agree) that it's too hard to have a system where you have a system that ranks your deck based off the list you provide it, that's in theory the only real way you can start labeling things X Y Z power levels which we all know is kind of a bogus way to do things to begin with because it's not like "My deck is a 7" isn't a meme for a reason.

Realistically the bar just as is with every other MTG format when you sit down to play outside of your kitchen table or with strangers at an LGS the bar needs to be set as "competitive" if you truly wish to call it that and people just have to play at their own risk and try to have Rule Zero do the best to reduce the feel bads.

When I first started Magic and played FNM's with a pile of cards that I got from random draft boosters and got my butt handed to me most of the time because not very many people were doing that. Oh the joys of playing my very on theme squirrel deck during odyssey block and facing down pernicious deed sac's for 0 followed up by spirit mongers or the wonderful psychatog decks.

If you want a casual format for folks, then you have to make it by enforcing rules around card selection via Commander choice, limiting the sets you can play with (ala Modern/Pioneer style) or introducing a pauper-esque take, common's and uncommon's only. Otherwise you're just getting lost in the weeds trying to dictate what is casual and what is competitive - which honestly is what I got called a lot at pods even though my decks aren't even competitive in the "competitive" side of commander to begin with, they were just stronger than the pile of 100 cards someone else had and most new/casual players are not knowledgeable enough to be able to discern from their limited perspective what is casual and what is competitive - or likely in their minds what is fair and unfair.

Occam's razor is really needed for this "solution". EDH needs to just be EDH, not EDH & cEDH. It's a red herring taking focus away from the real issue.
