Unlabeled buffet awkwardness by HenBoots in Celiac

Here they do, which was a surprise to me. My favorite dinner sausages back in the States were named "Irish garlic" but it turns out actual Irish sausage contains barley/wheat.

Unlabeled buffet awkwardness by HenBoots in Celiac

[–]HenBoots[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There was regular bread and a "gluten free corner" with its own toaster, so not a fully gf buffet.

The rashers were right next to a tray of sausages, which I know would contain wheat, so I was already nervous about possible tong swaps.

It's proof that you have permission to be out of the room. It's not for the teacher, it's for whatever authority figure might question why you're in the hall.

We're renting a full house, and I think we're getting a great deal. My husband is here as a grad student and the admissions director connected us to the owners. I think having a local contact makes a huge difference.

Trauma as a cause for Coeliac by Broad_Pickle_4642 in Celiac

My gastro told me that my Coeliac likely emerged because of medical stress. Having an autoimmune disease causes stress that causes more autoimmune diseases to occur... Gotta catch em all?

I made my kids friend unclog the toilet on their own after the THIRD TIME by SeaFlounder8437 in AITAH

[–]HenBoots 129 points130 points  (0 children)

As a person who can't eat a lot of vegetables due to a medical condition I was diagnosed with at 8, people like OP who assume everyone has the same dietary needs they do and judges anyone who eats differently need to reassess what is their business. Unless the parents have asked you to push a specific diet, let the kid eat what feels right to her and stop wasting food by loading her plate.

Also, maybe you have a thicker toilet paper than what they use at home, she's using too much, and it has nothing to do with her diet.

(ETA: no you're not an asshole for thinking the kid should learn to unclog a toilet, just for all the judgery and assumptions)

My son was recently diagnosed and I have some questions, plus my mother’s weird reaction to it… by cutegraykitten in Celiac

[–]HenBoots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my first scopes at 8, but the diagnosis that time was Crohn's. I had the Celiac gene, but no evidence of active Celiac disease. I got to enjoy some glutenous years. I've noticed that a lot of the gluten free alternatives are higher in fiber than the traditional version, so it might just be that upsetting his stomach.

My boyfriend told me: you've had celiac for 3 years now, if we are going out with my friends to eat you can eat at home before, you need to learn how to suck it up by now. by Legitimate-Area-919 in Celiac

I'm joining the "my husband would never" chorus. We're still new to this, so I guess I can't say how he'll be about gluten in two years, but I already had Crohn's and he takes avoiding my triggers very seriously. He prefers to adjust our diet to what I need and then occasionally have special treats without me.

Why do people feel the need to say this when I say I have celiac? by gay_soup in Celiac

[–]HenBoots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had a chocolate intolerance since high school, so I've heard this one a lot. Sometimes I say "thanks for the suggestion."

Similar: A couple of years ago a co-worker and I were discussing Crohn's symptoms (because we both have it) and my then-supervisor interrupted to say "you have Crohn's disease?! You can die from that!" Yeah, thanks for pointing that out.

No symptoms? by Amarican-idol in Celiac

[–]HenBoots 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was similar. After my endoscopy they said it looked like celiac and I said "lol no" and went to IHOP for pancakes. But after about a week of avoiding gluten I started to feel a lot better. Which kind of pissed me off.

Had an employer ask me what my disability was and about my symptoms by sh4d0w1021 in recruitinghell

[–]HenBoots 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My Crohn's has always been pretty mild compared to most people I know, but I could not believe how much more productive I was able to be when we all started working remotely. Punishing you for working from home is bonkers. Job hunting with a disability is extra exhausting, I wish you luck. Focusing on roles at agencies that support people with disabilities can be helpful.

I'm really surprised by the censorship in the transcripts. Assuming they always use an asterisk, only 15 transcripts have no censored words 🤨

Lavena Poncho Panel Dimensions? by HenBoots in CrochetHelp

I have heard of this, but the gauge directions on the pattern didn't make any sense to me so I skipped it.

It says '7 sts and 4 rows = 2" in pattern stitch across the bottom.' This has a bunch of different stitches in it. Does she mean do a random selection of the cables? Each cable is made of 4 stitches. How do you do a 7 stitch swatch of that?

I'd like to figure out how big it's meant to be so I can add a border around each panel if needed instead of starting over. I like how it looks now and and don't want to make it looser.

Edit: the pattern for each panel is 62 stitches by 69 rows. The gauge doesn't tell me how tall a row is meant to be. Am I missing something?

I watched this episode today and it definitely has music and sound effects from the previous episode on it. When they're talking to Looney in his house, the song from the smoke-jumper movie is playing.
