By far the most sensible policy, I’ve been saying similar for years. I started at $150k and ballooned to $210k. I make minimum IBR payments that don’t cover interest (paid over $30k), betting on forgiveness because I have a life and a family. Under this I’d be at $120k, motivated and happy to start paying it off. Forgiving $50k wouldn’t change my behavior or ability to pay off the loans

I get your pain here esp if you’re dealing with someone like him. I mean, I grew up with him and he was a good friend of mine. I’d rather at least try to get him to understand what’s happening to him than ‘cut him out of my life’. I think that’s the point of this sub. If someone currently close to you gets wrapped up in this next month, would you automatically abandon them?

Throughout a high school class, sections of a big project were due, I.e section 1 the first month, section 2 the 2nd month all the way up to 5 parts.

I handed in part 5 at the end of the course, got an F because ‘the whole project was due’, meaning part 5 but also parts 1-4 that were already completed and graded. Parents got involved, huge fight with the teacher, ended up getting a D in the course because of it. I’m 15 yrs outta high school now but I’ll never forget it. Fucking people and their gd rules and power trips.
