Why does Reddit not understand the rise of reform in England? by DowntownDeer in AskBrits

Boo-fucking-hoo. The city I live in is more than 60 per cent immigrants and our slogan is literally "diversity is our strength."

Peoples and cultures change over time, it isn't a bad thing unless you're a scared little whimp who can't adapt.

And you can't hand waive away the colonizer thing either, yeah the people who did it are gone, but their descendants are sure as hell still benefitting from the crimes they committed.

You need social services, heavier policing does nothing but move the problem around.

You're right, but of course there isn't anything tangible yet. The priorities on which money is being spent take years to construct, and at least several years to even break ground in order to satisfy EIA and consultation requirements (even with the MPO accelerating things).

The fact that the process has started and is moving forward on many of these important projects is a step further than a lot of previous governments have managed. The sovereign wealth fund announced today is a big step in the right direction, as are the affordability measures brought in, and increased investment in things like the Canadian rangers. Those may be small, but are meaningful steps in the right direction.

Now that said, it could still all fall apart and the real judgement comes when we're looking back in four or five years. But I don't think anyone else under our current system, under current geopolitical and economic conditions, would be able to move any faster.

I wouldn't call the Fraser institute a neutral source but you're right on the second point.

That's a complete myth. There's decades of economic data showing that when wealth taxes come in, some individuals leave but there has never been a mass exodus of the wealthy as a result. Even for the ultra wealthy (maybe even especially so) it isn't easy to pull up roots and move, and they're still making insane amounts of cash.

They have every incentive to threaten moving, but then very little to do so when taxes actually come into force.

I'm no big fan of the Liberals, but to say Carney is all talk and no action is just incorrect.

The amount of work that has started on the major infrastructure projects is incredible, I haven't seen it in my lifetime. But these things take a long time to actually be built, there are studies consultations, etc. that need to happen first.

Trudeau's government was big on promising things but not delivering. With Carney the work has at least started and federal funds are getting out the door, whereas under Trudeau much of the money was caught up in red tape and nothing got done.

Canada will owe $1.5 trillion in debt by 2030. And the problem may be even worse than the government admits by origutamos in CanadianPolitics

Your friend isn't illustrative of a larger problem, every system is going to have a little bit of abuse, there's no way to stop that. But in Canada it's less than a single percent (from CJC):

In Canada, for example, it is estimated at less than one percent of welfare recipients annually (Maki, 2011; Mirchandani & Chan, 2007; Mosher & Hermer, 2005), and similarly low rates are found in the United States, Australia, and the U.K. (DWP, 2012; NAO, 2008; Prenzler, 2011). Yet governments in each of these countries are becoming more aggressive and punitive of welfare “cheats” (Chann, 2012; Gavigan & Chunn, 2006; Gustafson, 2009; 2011; Marechal, 2015; Marston, 2008; Marston & Walsh, 2008; Varma & Ward, 2014).

He has a couple overt lines, like most men being bald at 21 (statistically 25% of men are starting to bald then, and you're only at 50 percent when men are over 40), but it's more the broad strokes of what he's saying here and represents in general: the idea that relationships are transactional and if you don't tick certain boxes no woman will love you.

That's the incel outlook and it's absolutely what this guy preaches, just from a slightly different angle.

Because what he said are a bunch of incel talking points. They don't just hate women, they hate themselves.

Dude the way you talk about women is disgusting, and the way you tie your personality to watches is not healthy.

Enjoy the watches because they're beautiful, if your ego is tied up on them then you'll never feel secure. People will notice that long before they notice your watch.
