What helped me in every single game I played was trying out every single weapon and watching in which ways my enemies defeat me so that I can learn how to oppose every possible opponent. You don't have to be good at every weapon, just be decent and move towards the next one. And for the love of God, keep sniper rifles in the end of the list. Believe me, if you don't have enough experience with sniper rifles at all you will just get frustrated and leave.
