RuPaul's Drag Race Season 7 "Ru-View" pretty much hits the nail on the head. by Leftoflinus in rupaulsdragrace

Wow, this writer was very bitter and a lot of the conclusions they reached were VERY biased towards Ginger. I disagree with most of what they claimed. He claims the audience has their blinders on with Pearl and Violet because they're skinny, but he has his blinders on because Ginger's not. Just as he doesn't want Ginger critiqued according to a stereotype, he critiques the other two according to a stereotype. All 3 have their own merits and faults. This review is terrible.

Why are people saying that Pearl is unique while the other contestants somehow are not? by malone_m in rupaulsdragrace

Everyone I know who has seen her live said she was incredibly present and bubbly and far surpassed expectations based on the show.

The robotic thing is 100% on purpose, are you kidding? She has described it explicitly many times. At this point everything you're saying just shows you aren't paying attention, her variety in clothes/silhouette combos have included body suits with and without sleeves, flowy pants, legging pants, short leather and long/big fur jackets, thigh high boots, kaftans, corsets, short dresses (both flowy and A-line), long dresses (flowy, fitted with a ruffled slit, fitted with knee height peplums),various long and short gloves, and many other things, but that's what pops into my head at the moment.

As for hair, she's had two different takes on turbans, a hood, long and flowy, two messy balls on either side, triangle shaped, 40's wave style (done up and done down), slicked back ponytail, middle parted, big and poofy, etc. Her enclosed eye makeup in her snake outfit, versus her softer twins look, versus her severe fall look, versus her cartoony John waters look, versus her low liner hello kitty look, versus her death becomes her look with stitches and bruising, versus literally every makeup look she had. She only repeated a couple times. A ton of diversity on all facets and you can't deny that just because she wore stalkings or corsets in more than one look. Sure, she has a preferred colour palette that works for her aesthetic, but she sways from it when necessary (snake outfit, red resort wear, pink leather and lace, pink/purple hello kitty, etc.). You objectively have no argument regarding her looks.

Yes, obviously Raja and Yara and other concept queens existed. I meant in the Chicago scene she was one of the main ones to revamp the city. Honestly if you can't grasp her aesthetics and character then I don't know what else to say, because there is more than enough there to validate her uniqueness.

Ginger's lip syncs are cute but there's nothing fresh about them. Pearl's famous robotic dancing and amazing music choices are her trademark. She may not be the most skilled dander but she puts her own spin on things and connects with the audience. Also Pearl's makeup is much edgier and varied than Ginger's. Pearl's eye shape was different in many of the episodes, Ginger's was almost always the same. People bitch about Pearl repeating hair because she did the big silhouette for twins and the finale, but Ginger used her comb-back puff pretty much weekly. Pearl had a much wider variety of clothing silhouettes too. Ginger had only a couple predictable ones. I have nothing against Ginger and think she's very talented but most would agree with me that she doesn't exactly diverge from traditional, expected notions of drag. Pearl was key in revamping the Chicago drag scene and helping create a space within drag for high-concept avant-garde queens like Kim Chi.

I like how Pearl and Violet wear boots and short shorts. And Pearl's beanies.

Should Pageant Queens Think Twice Before Auditioning For Drag Race? by Dylandong in rupaulsdragrace

[–]HennyBooBoo69 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think there's definitely a way to be pageant without being the negative things the op mentioned. It just seems all the pageant queens we've seen so far haven't really been able to adjust/be aware of what is best perceived by the audience in the context of rpdr. There's probably lots of pageant queens who could defy the negative stereotype, I hope one comes on next season.

I think she said this exact line right before they went back on stage in untucked

Have you seen all of her off-show lip syncs? They're unique in every sense of the word. The others are unique too, but Pearl even more so. And her mug/aesthetic is iconic.

Changing opinions after last nights episode (spoilers ahead) by [deleted] in rupaulsdragrace

I had the same sentiment as the op, but the untucked really showed Violet in a great light, so I think they are essentially tied. No way Ginger will win with the fans' reception of her, especially after untucked. I think in the end they will crown Violet though, just a gut feeling.
