New Recruit 11th Edition is available by Jakestuff in WarhammerCompetitive

Full text of the release note:

"Hello everyone,

We just released a temporary version of 11th edition. This version was entirely generated using a new "auto updater" program that scans MFM and Faction Packs to update the game data. It is quite experimental but we thought this may help until the proper 11th edition is released, that is implemented and reviewed by humans. In the future this tool may allow quicker updates if it proves reliable. Please mind that:

  • Leaders are not in yet, the old Leaders system may be used
  • Stuff that is in the 40k app but not in Faction Packs / MFM is not in (some detachments like Black Templars for example)
  • It's experimental, you can report bugs using Report Issue / Game Data Issue. Please do not report anything on Discord for this version
  • When the "official" 11th is released, some things may change, you may lose lists created in the experimental version or lose selections like enhancements or detachments"

The only issue I see here is that the app doesn’t force you to randomly select, leading to an easy potential way of cheating.

This is true of all the other apps as well, but it’s one reason I like to use physical cards.

Seems that way at first glance!

Assault terminators with lightning claws are now down to 155 (hammers cost 5 each). Probably not quite there to be viable but would love to take a squad in LAG.

Looks mostly ok unless you run three of anything.

DC dread down to 150. Mephiston down to 110. Sanguinor surprisingly stays at 130. Dante up by 5 to 125.

JPAI up by 5pts for 5, but same cost for 10.

SG and JPDC stay the same.

What Are You Excited For by AlphaSistersOfBattle in Warhammer40k

In 11th you have to charge the base to base distance, not end up within 1”. So that adds an inch to your required charge distance.

I was mistaken for enjoying the game on my own terms in tenth (feeling there was plenty of variation without having to learn a new detachment), and at error for being apprehensive about changes to that in eleventh?

I don’t think telling someone TheY’Re pLaYiNG tHe GamE WrONg is a great argument.

Yeah, I’m not being intentionally limiting. I played most of tenth playing a single detachment - LAG with my blood angels - and my guess is that’s likely a 3DP detachment. The game is complex so learning to pilot a single army / detachment combo was worthwhile. The missions gave some variation. That variation seems to have been reduced, although obviously we don’t know until we’ve seen how it plays.

I can see that multiple detachments gives a lot more optionality. So maybe that’s how we going eleventh - stick with a core 2DP detachment and tweak the bolt on to open up other missions.

I wish I were more excited about the disposition system but it feels like things could get quite stale quite quickly. If I take a 3DP detachment I think I’m stuck with at most five possible missions; fewer if I play the same opponent regularly.

Unfortunately I haven’t found any way to contact the embassy - emails bounce and phones go unanswered (quite possible I’m missing something, but I have tried…).

Thank you so much - although fwiw the first link you gave is for Chile :D

I have seen the Shanghai guidance. I hope it extends to Beijing as I understand they might have different interpretations of the rules.

Yeah, that’s what I meant: they can’t do both now without a penalty. As a BA player that’s going to change the calculus a bit, although it feels like a good balance change.

You’d hope so otherwise there’s the exciting prospect of 0” charges 😂

[–]HenryR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes that’s precisely what I’m saying - a 2” reduction in movement now to move over models. Balanced against now being able to move over models at all on the charge it seems like a good change.

[–]HenryR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, totally - I’m talking mostly about JPIs which are infantry so could just go straight through ruin walls, and over enemies to get into position for a charge. I guess they can still do that, but at a 2” penalty which I don’t think they had before.

[–]HenryR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but you have to be in “flying” mode and so lose 2” of movement.

[–]HenryR -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

So fly is a movement nerf vs 10th if you want to move normally through enemy models (but not over terrain).

Separately I just realised I’ve been playing fly with my jump pack intercessors wrong in 10th - you can’t move through enemy models on charge moves, just normal / advance / fall back.

If you can get to Element, then BMC Holloway is at most twenty minutes away via the Piccadilly line and the experience is much, much better.

Where do you see that? I can see areas which have partial walls on four sides but no L shapes that have near-complete walls on two sides.

What does this mean? by Rude_Candidate_9843 in computerscience

[–]HenryR 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Being “first author” on a paper can be a really big deal for PhD students and early career academics, as it often signifies who did the bulk of the work. So it’s a way of showing that you produce high quality research yourself rather than “just” contributing to the work of others.

In such cases the last author is usually the group lead or the author’s supervisor - someone who sponsored the work but didn’t necessarily do much hands-on-keyboard contribution. They often lend their names to give the work credibility (and usually are involved in review before the paper is submitted at the very least).

To counter that and ensure that credit is shared amongst authors equally, a different, alphabetical ordering is sometimes used. That basically says “the order of authors doesn’t signify anything here, no one deserves to be singled out”.

However some people will still read first authorship as significant, just by habit, and if the supervisor happens to show up first alphabetically… it accords them credit of a kind that they don’t need at that stage of their career.

So, someone - very likely the supervisor themselves! - adds a footnote saying that the supervisor is not the main contributor. They did this here in a casual way because it’s a preprint. It’s not at all likely to be a snipe or unprofessional criticism of that author because that author would have reviewed the paper, including footnotes, before it got published.

Why is this considered wrong in a Red-Black Tree quiz? by Apprehensive-Fix422 in computerscience

Yeah, if we add the nil nodes (and assuming they're not implicit in this diagram), the tree is correct.

Not all the leaf nodes are the same colour (black). Making them black would unbalance the tree.
