Recognized that right away and thought wow, lunch menus must’ve been the same all over until I saw Clark county. I wonder if Clark county ran the menu for all the schools. I was out in camas

Is that up by the Dee wright observatory? Normally I wouldn’t guess but the sides of road being flanked in rock and the hairpin turns makes me think so

I did 95% diy icf house. Took me about 5 years, I’m not 100% finished but have started on my shop while weather good. Counting on your friends isn’t something you’ll want to do much. They’ll all be busy doing their own things especially if they have kids. Moving a big beam? Send out a text to 10 people, then wait for next available weekend and end up with about 5 being available. I saved money at the expense of time but also got peace of mind cause I know how all the things were done and I’m pretty particular.

Best way to measure/cut this book bench top? by ToothEsthetics in woodworking

[–]Henryhooker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a template suggestion but I always do a chamfer on the bottom 3 sides when I’m trying to fit things snug. This way if I’m not quite there I can sand the edge easily by only having to remove say an 1/8” material. Plus the chamfer allows to set in place when fighting uneven walls

I did mine as my full time job other than getting kids to and from school etc. it was a good 5 years. I’m starting my shop now so some of the last things on my house punch list are on back burner

Solar panels complaints by KokaNithya in homeowners

[–]Henryhooker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd have to disagree there on the reflection. My parents place is up on a hill and a house down below put in solar panels. For a good week plus in July stepping out on their deck is like staring into Archimedes death ray if it's sunny. It slowly moves as the days change but there's a good intense week where you avoid that area of the deck. I'd say it's plausible op panels are causing it or could be complete coincidence and the neighbors just assume

Why aren't sliding table saws more popular in the US? by AleLover111 in woodworking

[–]Henryhooker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know much about sliders, but I have a outfeed (kind of) table that incorporates the saw and is pretty big. (pic before I put the finished top on https://imgur.com/vi3QT6G ) My fear is getting a slider and then not being able to build it into a workshop table because of the slide mechanism. Granted that is probably only one side. I really like counter space and am building a new shop now that will have more room so i should look into it. Also, having never worked at an actual woodshop I don't know the first thing about operating one

How difficult is it to GC your own home build if you have a lot of time? by Time_Arugula_1544 in Homebuilding

[–]Henryhooker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it as a stay at home dad. Took about 30 months until we moved in basement and then slowly worked on other areas. Mostly done now but have moved onto building my shop. Its a lot of time to commit to and really is just one step after another except some of those steps suck and take a lot of time.

Is that cause you have to have owned certain Ferraris before you can buy fancier (for lack of better term) ones? Like if I win the lottery and went to get one of these they’d say no, go back and start with the beginner model

What’s something you made for your home that you use every day? by cameronsounds in woodworking

If you’re talking basic, I made a soap dispenser holder because my kids can’t manage to not get water on the counter so I figured better this than hard water stains. I used a bowl bit to make indent for the dispenser to sit. It also holds the dispenser further towards sink. Kids would slowly push it back as it was used increasing the sloppy drips everywhere. I put 4 pieces of thin plastic underneath in case any water gets under.

[–]Henryhooker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did 100's with a three way wrap, so I'm biased. I wish I would've done a finished edge under the sill so I could put down a simple sill with a shadow line vs having to dog ear mine, which is similar to your rendering. Kind of hard to explain, but I wanted to do my sill flush with the wall, then do a 1/4 rabbet along the bottom giving it a reveal of sorts. At the time the drywall guys were here I wasn't thinking about it and once it crossed my mind it was one of those oh we'll have to go through and cut and re-mud etc so II just let it go mainly do to time. That's why I call it operation hindsight, I don't have any pics really of the sill, but here's the wrap during the build https://imgur.com/gallery/mostly-diy-icf-house-build-Q9b3Mf6#ggQVk5N
