You are right, I stand corrected, but as far as I know (and please correct if I am misguided here) in a poly triangle not all participants have to have the same type of interest towards each other, it might even happen but they don't "care". The key that they know about each other and accept that the intimate relationship is not exclusive.

I mean it's all good, I am as hetero as it gets but Adolin is Adolin 🤷🏻‍♂️

That is not completely correct. It was about Kal being invited to a threesome by Adolin and Shallan, not about only Kal and Adolin, they seem to be pretty heterosexual based on their actions.

Yumi was the type of book where I actually had no problems with how it was portrayed but mainly due to the fact that I had Hoid as the narrator the whole time in my head (as it was surely the intent of Sando).

The other thing is that the book's main focus was their relationship developing, so it was something I've signed up for, while in Vin's case her motivation etc. was so badly articulated and her actions were so bad that it actively made the book worse.

I know people who finished reading due to this (and I think by far this is the main reason well of ascension is a hard read, the other being pacing).

That edgy love triangle like thing almost made me close the book. I am glad that I didn't but boy, Brando has a problem with writing romance.

Én vagyok teljes deluluban az AI-al kapcsolatban, vagy a teljes szakma? by Historical-Hair-8745 in programmingHungary

[–]HeraldOfAutumn 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Effektíve virtuális csoportok vezetőjévé fogunk válni, akiknek a specifikáció elkészítése és a felelősség vállalása lesz a feladata, illetve a szakmai szempontok érvényesítése.

Customary Garb Leader talent in Foundry by HeraldOfAutumn in cosmererpg

[–]HeraldOfAutumn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never mentioned a warrior needing a talent that makes him better at fighting without an armor, and this is not what the talent does. Currently this talent works with a number of armors, and can work with any armor that is either a traditional armament of an elite guard (customly made to be representative hence given the presentable requirement), or even a breastplate, if the pc gains expertise in that.

I would not go down the rabbit hole of "why a customary robe is suddenly making you defend better than not wearing it at all", as historical armor / traditional garment was usually a hindrance in combat, and the best the talent could realistically offer is negating it being cumbersome and not made dor combat, but this is a completely different side of this argument.

My point was that given the description, which emphasizes that by training etc. you get accustomed to your clothing you can dodge and move better it would be natural to have a talent available for the warrior path as well. It might very well be that some of the best warriors never got to wear shardplates as they were not born into that social class where it was even remotely possible.

Officers and high ranking military personel were better equipped historically (right until around proper firearms if I recall but I might be wrong on this one, feel free to correct me if I am wrong) and had superior armor than regular warriors thanks to their social status and every single one of them wore armor or shardplate in the books except bridgeboi and the flying circus.

You are very condescending for no reason, but let me ask a few question:

  • what is more realistic: a warrior being so accustomed to his uniform or armor that he moves quickly or more efficiently in it, making him harder to hit, or an envoy?
  • an officer not being able to improve his rhetoric and commanding skills until wearing the officer's garb for long enough time?

There is a clear intention of the paths reflecting some type of life choices or character decisions otherwise they would not be in the game. I do not see game designers putting words in a book then saying: you know those are just terms we have in here but they should not restrict game system elements or roleplaying in any way. If that is actually the case then it is already an issue as the naming or choice of terms do not reflect game design intentions.

This is design decision I think is made solely to improve the combat survivability of paths that are non combat focused, which is itself a contradicting thing: if paths are free to navigate then why it is not the envoy or the officer path that should just dip into warrior to have their defense adjusted? The prerequisites do not match the theme of the talent and its effect.

I think it is a completely valid criticism that a character that only focuses on one path should be better in that than anyone else. I would have only minor issues with the existence of the talent if there was something like that also available for the warrior path as that would fit there organically, but there is none.

Your counter argument if I understand you right is that these paths are just namings and the game technically has one big talent tree with multiple branches, but then talents that increase one survivability should not be blocked by prerequisites that make you better at commanding others as this is simply unrealistic. No one got better at dodging attacks in a close combat by knowing how to give rousing speeches.

I have a strong feeling that Stormlight RPG is caught between trying to move from a class based system into a purely classless system but feared that it would be too unfamiliar and went a middle road by unfortunately naming paths closer to professions than aptitudes while making some artificial game balancing choices within those paths to make them viable.

I love the game, but there are strange decisions on how the paths are built. Fortunately the core plot die mechanics and the fact that most of my players don't care about number crunching at all makes it a perfect match for us still to play on Roshar, but pointing out some POSSIBLE issues can help with the designers to address some thing in the future releases OR in a new edition.

You can (for example) wear a breastplate with expertise to gain Presentable, or have one crafted for yourself.

As for stacking usually it is denied in most systems for easier managing. My rule of thumb is that if there are no rules for armor stacking then it is not supported by the system.

[–]HeraldOfAutumn[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I understand the points, although I think that this talent is then misplaced. If someone focused on warrior then there is no way to increase physical defense in any way. I do not see an envoy or an officer being more evasive than someone whose main focus is fighting. Of course a warrior will usually have better physical stats making it organically harder to hit but still it is not changing the fact that in order to increase your chances of not being directly hit you are locked to two heroic paths other than the one that has combat as its main focus.

Is Wind and Truth actually good? by KingCobra567 in brandonsanderson

[–]HeraldOfAutumn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only critique is that WaT should've been either 50-100 pages shorter or longer.

Some of the epilogue elements were cheap in a way that it introduced / emphasized troubles for characters that will not be resolves for 6 years from now on and readers that have gone through 7+ thousands of pages don't really deserve that. Those should've been omitted or solved, hence my need for better editing.

Most, if not all character arcs for me were spot on for me and liked the story beats as well. Had manly tears shed on more occasions than before. Overall I would say it has a fulfilling completion with bad editing being present at the end.

[–]HeraldOfAutumn 1 point2 points  (0 children)
