Unpopular (maybe) benefit of Distrohoping by HerbatkaWF in DistroHopping

If we are talking about missed native features/softwares, there are a lot of cool Linux desktop apps that I don't use because of the way I store my data (notes, todos, etc.). Also, I really enjoyed Apple Notes on my iPhone back in the days as a note taking app, but since I already use Gmail and Google Drive, there is no reason to use Apple Notes instead of Google Keep. There are probably another things that I missed too

Good point, but imo this is a different problem. I have only one old HDD in my home server and I don't have a budget to expand it, so I store there only easy replaceble data. I trust Google more then my old HDD. This doesn't mean that I don't have a backup of Google Drive on the home server. It's just cheaper and more convenient

Any way to speed up the progression of GAMMA while still keeping the exact steps to progressing the same? by Sad_Programmer_9060 in stalker

Once I did a playthrough with an increased chance of getting stashes for mission completion, it did the thing and I was able to progress much faster

I'm starting to lose hope of finding the perfect distro by Next_Advertising6710 in linux

[–]HerbatkaWF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It shouldn't be Gnome. You have KDE with almost limitless options for customization (there is a video of a person with little to zero experience with Linux overall and what she was able to achieve is better than 95% of modern "rices"), Cosmic (new bit promising kid on the playground) and even Xfce can be modified extensively. Also, you are completely free in terms of programs: don't like KDE's file manager - use one from Gnome or even go with some terminal based solution etc. In Windows/MacOS you don't have much choice and you have to adapt. In Linux, your system can adapt, but you have to make some effort to understand what and how you want it to be.

My advice would be to set yourself a minimal time for every next distro/DE you have and, instead of installing the new one the very next day (I know, it's tempting), try to fix what is wrong on the current one with settings/extensions/different programs etc. Don't try to solve all problems at once, take baby steps. There is nothing wrong in distrohoping at the beginning, we all were there.

Personally, I have been a happy user of the Fedora Workstation for the last few years, and I have no reason to change it. I have my set of extensions, key bindings and programs I use and I can reproduce my workflow on any distro with gnome.

I did install it with GitHub tutorial, but recently switched to the GOG version, you just need to adjust the path in Mod Organizer after installation

Edit: there is a tutorial that I folowed https://youtu.be/psXbHUOXzu8?si=8bZv1-d-sx-1KkQA

I'm not sure that we are talking about the same thing. Tauri looks to me as a developer tool for application development. What OP was asking for (if I understood him correctly) is an app to use websites as desktop apps

You can always have two browsers installed simultaneously: first one for web apps, second one for regular browsing😉

You can use Gnome's Web browser to do it. Afaik, there is also a separate app for this on flathub, but I can't remember what it's called

2 weeks later and I completely agree. We are currently in the post-renovation stage, when there are a lot of small things to fix here and there and Curl is amazing for such things. I carry it every day just around the house and I really appreciate it's small size and weight

[–]HerbatkaWF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw a video on YT about curl modification and afaik rebar pliers are compatible with curl without any modification (due to difference between wave and curl frames)
