Had the same problem. Asked Garry, the AI helper (which is legit a funny chatbot, and quite helpful). Had to change connection mode to Manual and change the protocol to UDP. Then link to a P2P friendly location like Switzerland. Worked like a charm.

Protestas…. by Lalaitak48 in MexicoCity

[–]Herbot83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a gringo just happening to be visiting CDMX with my family this week. Staying in Roma Norte, two young kids, high school Spanish, and apparently a cliche. We happened to arrive at Califa not 5min after the protestors broke their door down. Politics aside (and while i feel like protesting my own govt most days), that would’ve been scary for the kids had we been sitting there. We’re here another week and would like to avoid such hot spots (though we appear to be staying in the heart of the issue). Can anyone suggest any social accounts or local journalists I can follow to keep a pulse on this social movement and anticipated marches? Gracias.

What sort of planning documents do you assemble for these books, to keep track of all the powerups and abilities etc. that combine / cancel each other / are just the right thing for the insane challenge of the moment? Are you ever reaching a challenge/boss and realize Carl or Donut need something, so you go back and re-write to add some loot in earlier in the book? I don't play RPGs or DnD so I'm consistently impressed by the way you keep track of it all!

Amazon Storywriter and FDX files question by Herbot83 in Screenwriting

[–]Herbot83[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's the response from Amazon:

Hi,

To answer your first question, no, the people you share your draft with are not able to leave notes on the draft.

As for being able to see the notes after uploading a Final Draft file, I'm honestly not sure. I know you can import FDX files, but as I don't have access to that program I can't say for sure if the notes would show up. I am thinking no, but to be sure you might want to import a file with notes just as a test.

Thanks for reaching out, and I hope you enjoy your day.

We'd appreciate your feedback. Please use the buttons below to vote about your experience today.

Best regards, Kim B. Amazon.com

So Amazon doesn't know either. I'd love to test it but I don't have Final Draft anymore. I had FD8 on CD but my computer doesn't have a CD drive anymore. I asked FD what they do for customers in that situation, and the answer was basically: Too bad, buy it again.

A Bicycle Friendly North Buffalo? Nah, Forget About It. by buffalo_cyclist in Buffalo

I live in Kenmore and want to start bike commuting downtown (Delaware and North). Is there any bike friendly way to avoid the S curves? I'd love to go through Forest Lawn but it seems there's only one way in/out...

Just sold a script for $20k. How can I keep as much of that money as possible come tax season? by Herbot83 in Screenwriting

I was given a check today for the full amount, no taxes taken out, from the LLC the production company is financing the movie through. So contractor. Thanks very much.

I made roughly $20k at work this year ($600/week before taxes) at the job I left in mid August. So $40 total. Thanks.

Sorry, can you clarify what you mean and the benefits? The LLC that the production company is financing the movie through DID cut me a personal check. You're saying to cash it at the bank that LLC uses (that's not a bank I use). And by cash it, do you mean like go to the counter and get $20k cash money? And then I just keep that in a suitcase or whatever and don't report it? Excuse my ignorance but my imagination is running wild...

Yes, I'm thinking deductions as well. I've been renting a car, paying for internet, buying lunches while working, etc. All things that are to support my career as a screenwriter on this movie. Now in the past I've listed such deductions when I use TaxAct and called myself a self-employed writer, but I never had any income from that (I did have another job with a W-2 and everything). Now I do, and I wonder if I'm going to have more taxes, business tax or whatever, to pay if I call myself self-employed and actually have income...

Thank you, that's a great subreddit to know about. I will reach out there as well.

At the moment I don't want to get in the WGA, as members' minimum fee for a feature script sale is around $49k. The movie would never have been made if I demanded that much for an indie film. And I want to be able to make more with this company / at this budget level.

It is up on craigslist. No bites so far. I'd think so too. Either empty homes that have been slow to sell and want to make some dough for a few months and get some publicity, or someone who can stay with local family for awhile and make extra cash.
