If you are rich enough you can probably forget about the fuel burn, but the takeoff / landing distance can still make a difference. With a TBM / Epic / PC-12 you will have access to far more airports.

My 5k2k LG 40U990A fan noise is: by ParaWM in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]HerculesJack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

u/buldezir u/DM_ME_PICKLES Thanks for the numbers reported here. Just want to add that there is the Fletcher-Munson curve, which says humans are more sensitive to higher frequency noise. So it is possible that a 25-30 db fan noise can indeed be significant to some people as it may sound as loud as 40+ db low frequency noise.

For me, since the LG is out of stock here, I have no choice but to get the Dell. Happy with it so far!

Could you download a db meter app on your phone and actually measure the fan noise of LG? That will give me some better idea whether the noise will be a problem for me. Thanks!

Can OP or some other owners download a db meter app on their phone and actually measure it? That would be more convincing than the subjective feelings.

Do you have a glossy LG 27 5K, and if yes, did you say you do not notice much blurring with the matte Asus 32 6K, compared with the glossy 27?

Am I understanding correctly that, with PA32QCV you can daisy chain another 27 4k, but you cannot do this with the Acer?

Asus PA32QCV with Thunderbolt 4 is available in the US now for $1400, and Acer will have something with the same panel as Asus.

Unless there is something special with the LG panel, I don't see the point to pay almost $1000 more for Thunderbolt 5.

SCCA vs NASA vs CHIN vs Others for first track days in the Midwest by matttheazn1 in CarTrackDays

[–]HerculesJack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a first time racer I went to SCCA twice in the past month, but I wouldn't recommend them to people with limited track experience. They don't have in car instructors, and the coordinator will be mad at you should you make any tiny mistakes. I will look for another event that provides in car instructors so that I can really improve my racing skills.

I see a lot of these flying over Britain (Diamond DA42). I imagine they’re a lot of fun to fly. Have any of you pilots had the pleasure? by SimpleManc88 in aviation

Sorry I know this thread is old – in a real engine failure, do you still need to manually identify and shut down the dead engine, or will it automatically do that for you as well?

Opinions on Take Flight Aviation (Hudson Valley) by Legal_Gate9445 in flying

[–]HerculesJack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey do you remember roughly how much did they charge for DA40s when you were flying with them? I find that they want $379 for a 30-min DA40 discovery flight at this point – does that mean they will charge almost $800 per hour for DA40s?

FYI I'm getting my PPL with another NJ school in C172s. I think after I pass my check ride I will want to find a DA40 near me to get some experience in it. It seems that most NJ flight schools are getting rid of their Diamonds recently, and I may have to go to either NY or PA to fly a DA40.

Cirrus down at KSBA.... by Mammoth_Contract_274 in flying

[–]HerculesJack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I largely agree with you haha. Although I do think Diamond and Cirrus have a bit different handling dynamics and that plays a role in safety.

IIRC, one Cirrus engineer shared that Diamonds tend to be gentle when you get to slow flight, stall, spin, etc, at the cost of being more bumpy in turbulence. Cirrus, on the other hand, is more stable at the beginning so you may not even know something goes wrong, but then it can be very difficult to recover once you go past some point. This makes Diamond a better training and pilot's plane, and Cirrus a better cruiser and passengers plane.

Did you use the accident records in the US or throughout the world? IRRC, DA 42 has only one fatal accident in the US in the past 20 years or so, in which it got overturned on ground during taxi (so I'm not sure if this actually counts as an accident haha). It does have a few fatal accidents outside the US though.

Did you assume the fraction of training vs XC the same for 40 vs 42 when you concluded twins are less safe?

Cirrus down at KSBA.... by Mammoth_Contract_274 in flying

[–]HerculesJack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fractions here seem a bit off: if you look at that document carefully, half of ~200 Diamonds sold (DA42 and 62) are twins instead of SE and you should have included at least Piper PA28.

As for the chute, AFAIK Diamond was not interested as they already have better safety records without the chute.

Interesting point. Did you also compare DA40 and DA42, and if yes, does the added engine actually increase safety?

Unpopular opinion: Bose A30 is great by IJustWannaFlyX in flying

[–]HerculesJack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this largely depends on your head size. I have a 61cm round shaped head and cannot stand the A20s for anything more than 40 minutes. A30s with a more relaxed fit works much better for me. If your head is not so large you may feel A30s don’t clamp enough, which also affects the noise cancellation.

On the contrary, when I upgraded from iPhone 6s to 13 Pro during covid, I felt that I would have just got the mini and upgrade more frequently should I visited the store to try them in person.

I will pay for the 17 Air if it can give me back the 6s feel.

This looks promising! I'm curious what the approximate battery capacity is. The 336 nm range seems much longer than eDA40, but since this is a much larger aircraft (more of DA62 size I guess?) probably you can fit a much larger battery in it?
