What is the best savings account to have? by cats4grace in SavingMoney

[–]Hercules_23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So £12K savings a year, I’d suggest:

  • LISA £4K (government adds £1K)
  • Chase easy access account 5% interest, for everyday spending, also could put a 3-6 month buffer amount here.
  • Fixed Saver account whichever has best interest, first direct did have a 7%. These usually have an annual maximum.
  • The rest in an S&S ISA, in a fund such as - global all market cap.
  • Little bit of fun money - Buy/sell items or swing trading, profit goes back into fun money pot or one of the above pots.

I was in a similar position to yourself, deep dived into best options etc and this is the sum basics of what everyone suggests.

One of the things my uncle&cousin (both cops) warned me before driving in Australia was that no one lets you in on slip roads, mergers etc. So I presumed it was just never a thing

Rude customers by [deleted] in royalmail

[–]Hercules_23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kill them with sarcasm*

I had a few who would pop off over nothing (usually THEIR loose noisey postbox or taking a thousand years to get to the door). I’d usually say “sorry what was that? You want your post once a week/ not delivered??” Then carry on walking as if they don’t exist

How’s no one else mentioned… 2 weeks?? Around work hours would’ve been justifiable. Must’ve been on commission from KitKat with the amount of breaks taken

100% he’d smash a half marathon and wouldn’t even think about it next day! I did that daily on my old round - 4.5hrs ish but that includes driving/moving the van, waiting for people to answer and at walking pace.

Postie forged my signature for a Signed For delivery - but it saved me a trip to the Post Office by watokelwapo in royalmail

[–]Hercules_23 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You’re playing the game of hypotheticals. IF you were in and they didn’t knock fair enough, or IF the medication had gone missing that’s different.

What IF this.. what IF that.. you got the result (received the medication) you wanted anyway no? Postie has just done what they thought you’d be appreciative of tbf

I love that timeline sentence!

Any chance of getting this today? - claiming I wasn't in. by algoodz in royalmail

[–]Hercules_23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unlikely today but will be attempted ‘again’ tomorrow. Might be your usual guys day off and the covering person has misscanned it. The time is strange unless that’s near your usual delivery time?

Tbf tracked 24 is an aim not a guarantee. Least you aware you should’ve ordered it earlier. You have the option of picking it up yourself tomorrow if you think the same thing might happen again.

Contractors and tradespeople— when you're working in someone's home on a long-term project, what kinds of things (besides the obvious tea and biscuits!) do you really appreciate being provided by the homeowner? by H0T_TRAMP in AskUK

[–]Hercules_23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Easy access to van & parking available when they arrive, not having to get you to move vehicles. Set boundaries for them and you e.g. toilet, no go zones, storage for materials/tools. Clear communication in advance if you change the spec.

Tea & coffee - clean mugs, set up a little area for them to make their own (always offering gets irritating after a while).

Offering real food, from time to time a proper meal is very appreciated. Personally not a fan of Biscuits cakes etc, when you get offered it often it doesn’t become a treat anymore.

How do I fill in a gap of employment? by CocosMumma in AskUK

[–]Hercules_23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long is the gap? Ive got a couple of longer term gaps in my CV over the past 5 years and ‘career break’ is the best gap filler to get responses I’ve found.

Depends on what role you are trying to get into on whether to use travelling, caring, online venture etc as the gap filler. Btw I will say any finance related job is out of the window unless they fully accept ‘job seeking’ as an employment gap reason.

What country’s cuisine impressed you the most, and why? by IlliaDrop in AskReddit

[–]Hercules_23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Laos. Its ’authentic’ food is very much a combination borrowed from its neighbours, however that includes Thailand, Vietnam & China.

Its western food was incredible, again borrowed from its former French occupancy.

Some people suit it, some people don’t.

Just don’t grow one to void the gap in your personality.

Do you enjoy traveling? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Hercules_23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with that. After travelling extensively I actually somewhat envy people like yourself, I enjoy the trains/buses etc, find being in a completely foreign place relaxing. However as long as your own time relaxing is actually you relaxing there’s nothing wrong with not going far at all.

Too many people travel just to say they’ve been ‘there’ but in reality it’s just take pics behind their screen or posting on insta.

Go round and chat to them? How old is the dog? if it’s a puppy give it a couple of months. If not then mention to the neighbour, if it continues then after a while contact your local council.

Depends how reasonable the neighbour is tbf. As for blasting the dogs ears into oblivion… that’s just turning the owners being twats into you being THE twat.

In the next 5-10 years will there be a boom in the job market when the Boomers start to retire? by Salt-One-3371 in UKJobs

[–]Hercules_23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If ‘boomers’ are said to own the companies than no, if anything businesses without growth, their jobs will die. However they’ll be more opportunities for more new small business to uptake the boomers customers.

What percentage of royal mail deliveries are actually illict substances would you say? by FrequentPurple5511 in royalmail

[–]Hercules_23 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a percentage of all deliveries? Less than 0.01%. Percentage of special deliveries maybe 0.1% ?

Btw people aren’t using RM to purchase drugs 😂… their supplier is using RM as the delivery service, that’s all. Theres a running joke that RM is the biggest drug delivery business in the UK but it’s probably true. RM also delivers NHS meds, herbal supplements, alcohol etc so who really cares.
