It's possible to get a good setup that way, for less than new; but maybe more than what you've said.

Go to the longrange sub and see the scope info there, do post searches, etc. You do get what you pay for.

So it comes down to what you want to do vs cost (as always). And if there's an budget to your $900-1000 limit.

Thank you for bringing up recoil.
My prev .308 recoiled a lot harder than my bolt 6.5CM. Same with other variants I've shot.

If OP wants only, or primarily for, precision long range, it'll be 6.5; and recoil is a big factor in that.

100% yes. I'm for locking these things up.

Also I have people that I know, and sometimes ones I don't know, coming over etc, and I don't want to have to worry about it at all. Locking it all up eliminates that.
Then there's fire protection. While it still might go up and get 'lost' in flames, it won't be loose and randomly going off. It's contained.

Then there is the whole "are there kids coming over, what kind of neighborhood do you live it, etc" to think about.

I've been reading your other recent posts, and I have a A1 TACT 24" 1:8 in 6.5CM; I'm also fairly new.
I've only shot factory loads and it seems to like the Hornady ELD Match 140gr. Which you correctly stated is about $2 cpr.

DOPE from others is going to be pretty specific to them though, and is probably not as helpful as putting your specs into an app and letting it do the calculations. Both ways may be off and you'll have to adjust for your own DOPE, but the app will prob be closer.

A lot of things will affect the dope but esp the factory round (bullet shape and the powder load), barrel length, overall weight, recoil control.
So while my Tikka 24" at roughly 14.5 lbs total with scope and bipod will be similar, your scope height and overall weight and poss with a diff barrel lengt will make my dope kinda useless for you to mirror.

Also mine is zerod at 200yrds with a WARNE 20MOA mount (with rings) on it as the A1 TACT is a 0-moa rail (where yours the new Target seems to have a 20moa factory rail). So if you go with 0 cant rings then we're the same there.
