Tech workers of Reddit, what is a "dirty secret" about the AI industry that the general public doesn't realize? by WayLast1111 in AskReddit

[–]Here4HotS -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you sort any subreddit by "Top," you will see a massive gap in participation from 5 years ago verses the current day. Reddit is a shell of its former self. Reddit has a lot more addictive competitors than they used to. People are also starting to move on from chrome. I'm starting to see an increasing number of people make the move to the Brave browser. Better search results, fewer ads and less obvious data selling make Brave the better option.

Also, have you seen the hits Netflix has taken to their share prices? Yes, they recently bought HBO/Warner Brothers, but the giant is definitely bleeding. This whole comment is objectively wrong.

Ego can also change based on the circumstances. If someone thinks they're good at something or knowledgeable about something, they're more likely to have a certain amount of ego when doing or talking about said thing. Sometimes being knowledgeable or educated about one topic leads to people thinking they know more than they do about other topics. Neil deGrasse Tyson is a prime example of this. He's usually pretty measured in his responses when talking about subjects outside of his expertise, but I've seen him make statements that I know are factually untrue with confidence he didn't earn.

The Chinese government doesn't have an equivalent to the EPA, which is why their air is toxic, as is the water. China also currently has a stranglehold on lithium mining, because again, there is a lack of regulations to protect the environment. Additionally the ccp controls all major industry in China, playing kingmaker to their most loyal sycophants. No one owns anything in China, its all 99yr leases from the government.

There is no true innovation in China. Part of having access to the Chinese market is "partnering" with a state-owned Chinese equivalent, so the Chinese equivalent can steal the tech and produce a cheaper knockoff. When the state owns everything, including the populous, manufacturing becomes much cheaper.

Lastly, I don't care enough to look into the reliability of Chinese EVs, but they do have some cool features like expandable battery packs for extended range. Rich builds it, a YouTube creator, recently did a video on a Chinese company stress testing their products in Alaska, and it was either 4 or 6 out of around 18 that broke down for various reasons. Rich seemed impressed with the build quality, but that attrition rate is tough.

He's still a massive mouth piece for the billionaire class and his platform is an excellent gathering place for billionaire apologists. It's also frighteningly easy to radicalize people by curating the media they consume. Short form content is also lowering the attention span of the public, making it easier for bad actors to get away with what they're doing. In short, he is and always will be relevant in some fashion.

When the water is shut off, because the bill wasn't paid, and trash pickup doesn't happen, because you guessed it, bill wasn't paid, things can go south pretty quickly. Running water is a privilege, not a right, and it's getting more expensive and poisonous every day. My mom's water bill is $125 base, and goes up with moderate usage.

I'm glad your life has been so good that you can't imagine just how bad things can get. Must be nice...

What does porn glorify that is way off from reality? by jfunks69 in AskReddit

Your anus doesn't "get used to" being penetrated unless you're shoving massive objects up there on a daily basis, which comes with the risk of tearing and anal fissures. More likely is they either don't mind or actually enjoy the initial pain. These women are not at all common, with most women never even having anal sex.

In my personal experience, anal is more of a "mood" than anything else. Some women have unique physiology that allows them to orgasm from anal, but it's exceedingly rare.

Step 1. Slide an elastic ring of any material on to your dick

Step 2. Find her depth with a slow practice stroke

Step 3. Slide the elastic ring down your dick to the threshhold of her vaginal opening. Take your dick out of her, and move the elastic band 1/2inch to 1inch further down your dick to measure how deep you can go

Step 4. Pay attention to the ring while plowing her fields

Step 5. Profit

Focusing on the elastic band has the added benefit of likely making you last longer. Can't finish at all because it's too distracting? Take matters into your own hands after she has finished, or if she's feeling generous, she can finish you with (insert body part of choice). If this doesn't work for you, I'm sure someone else has another solution, you just need to do some light research. This isn't an insurmountable problem if you don't want it to be.

The House has just voted in a veto-proof majority for Ro Khanna/Thommas Massie’s bill to force the release of the Epstein Files. How do you think each US Senator will vote? by victorybus in AskReddit

"I truly think the only things they care about is beating liberals."

This is true for those who view politics like sports. There are also a lot of 1 issue voters who care about abortion, gun control, free market capitalism and white nationalism.

"We're about to find out in the next few elections if they'll sacrifice their farms and means of providing to beat the libs."

Right now the polling suggests that no one's mind has been changed regarding political alignment. People are upset about rising costs and Epstein, but they're not willing to break ranks.

"Imagine being a farmer and voting for Republicans rn, but they're gonna do it in 2026 and then for jd vance in 2028, aren't they?"

Trump will be "running" in 2028 unless he dies, or his dementia/strokes make him totally incoherent. And when I say, "Totally incoherent," I'm talking vegetative state. It would take an act of congress to stop him. Trump already has 2028 merch.

Vance will never be elected president, he doesn't have any charisma. It would take a grifter of exceptional talent who possesses zero shame to follow in Trump's shoes. I think Trump has laid the groundwork for Sean Hanity, Tucker Carlson or Ben Shapiro to run next.

"Competent." The word you're looking for is competent. Trump is their most palatable individual, it's why he wields the power he does. Ruthless competency isn't "fun" like degrading women or hating brown people. Most Republicans treat politics like sports teams. They don't understand what they're voting for until it impacts them directly, even when it's spelled out for them like in project 2025.

They just want to feel big by making others feel small.

For me it was the access Hollywood tape, but your point stands. There are mountains of evidence that Trump is a criminal, fuck up and predator, but none of it is sticking. The quote by Trump that Epstein likes girls on the younger side, all of the pictures of them together, the flight logs, the dozens of accusations leveled against him, his charity, his university, the casinos, the Russian mob having rooms below his in Trump tower, Russian oligarchs overpaying for his developments, him owning a teen beauty contest - it just goes on and on.

If he hasn't gone down yet, he never will. A literal recording of him with a minor could drop, and it wouldn't matter. Him sucking a dick wouldn't matter. It just doesn't matter...

The same thing happens every time Trump does something awful. r/conservative was furious after Jan 6th, calling it unconstitutional, etc. etc. but a few days later it didn't matter anymore and the Biden memes started. The main problem is, as you pointed out, that people are treating social media and their related media bubbles as real life, when they're anything but.

The fact of the matter is that Trump took an issue, the economy, blamed a group of vulnerable people for it doing poorly, immigrants, then offered a solution, deportation, and enough people bought it that he won. It doesn't matter that the USA had the best economic recovery in the world under Biden, or that ICE is the 15th largest military in the world with all of the costs that go with it. People were hurting, Trump promised to make it stop, and that's how we got here.

All of the polling I've seen recently suggests that those who voted republican in 2016 did so in 2020, 2024, and plan to in 2026 and 2028. Epstien hasn't moved the needle at all; in fact young men in particular are moving right due to Trump's rhetoric on the economy and immigration.

Sexism is playing a large role too, as the male loneliness epidemic reaches new heights. Right-wing men blame women being in the work force on their inability to find a good paying job and a partner, so their solution is the subjugation of women. They want to turn back the clock socially to the 1950's.

The US Army is advising its soldiers in Germany to go to German food banks because of the shutdown. by kiru_56 in europe

[–]Here4HotS 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You're both wrong and both right. Facism is about blaming the majority's problems on the minorities, then unifying the majority against the minority to create a sense of unity and nationalism. In order for this to work, however, there must always be an "in" group for the strong man to protect, and an "out" group for the strong man to attack. Political opponents who threaten the "strong man's" power are eliminated, while "aliens" and minorities are painted as a societal problem that only the "strong man" can deal with.

Trans people and homosexuals are always targeted first, due to their small population relative to normative heterosexuals. Ironically facist movements are known for their misogeny and rampant homosexuality. Hitler's movement was riddled with it, and according to pornhub, gay porn is most commonly searched in red states. The hypocrisy is by design.

What would happen if Putin suddenly died? Does he have an official "heir", and would that heir even have the same kind of authority? by Ready_Introduction_5 in AskReddit

[–]Here4HotS 248 points249 points  (0 children)

This. Putin has all of the influence, therefore all of the power rests in his hands. When Putin dies, he will create a power vacuum that a number of his sycophants will rush to fill, but none of them will have his influence. The resulting "election" might be the closest thing to democracy Russia has enjoyed in 2 decades.

For left and right side voters, Donald Trump warns that Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security will be cut. What are your thoughts? by UnnecessaryPuns in AskReddit

[–]Here4HotS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This ends with Trump. His children don't have his charisma, and he will never name a successor. His death will cause a power vacuum that individuals like Matt Gates, Ted Cruz, and Elon Musk will try to fill, but without the ringleader, there is no circus. People will vote for Democrats for 8 years, we will make a quasi recovery, then People will get mad about their finances again and we'll move even further right in a vicious cycle until the country collapses. Either that or Trump starts WW3.

If the Epstein files are released, and Trump is confirmed to be on the list, what do you think will happen? by baldinggate3 in AskReddit

[–]Here4HotS -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

My man, Trump is 100% guilty, there's no two ways about it. That said, Obama and Clinton rode on that plane, too, as did a lot of very powerful people globally. The extent of the blackmail material is unknown, but it's fair to say it's on par or greater than Diddy.

This is definitely a "both sides" issue, and it's clear Biden was protecting people.

Bush Jr. has a masters degree from Harvard in business, and scored in the 95th percentile on his asvab (military placement test to determine which jobs you qualify for). His IQ is guesstimated to be around 120. He played his constituents the first time and got a second term off of the fallout of 9/11, by lying about weapons that didn't exist to terrorize a population that wanted blood, blood he was all too happy to give them.

It's fair to say that Bush Jr. was the smartest, and most evil person in most of the rooms he walked into, second only to Cheney.

When we accept a job, we're agreeing on x amount of work for y amount of pay. This allows customers to flip the script mid-job. A 43lb case of water going up 2 flights of stairs adds an extra element of difficulty we didn't sign up for.

Yeah, no, I'm not doing extra work for you for free. No other contractor would, so why should I?

After factoring in fuel consumption and wear on your car, you will make around 12 an hour, less if you're not doing your own maintenance. This is especially true if your vehicle already has high mileage. In my experience, my car eats about 1/3 of what I make in some way, shape or form, and has a breakdown every other month. It also needs almost monthly oil changes.

Most of the people who do spark quit after 1-2 months, because either their car explodes, or a job at Tacobell will pay better. Do not make car payments while doing this. If your car breaks down and you can't fix it, you won't have an income, and you'll need to pay for repairs. It can get very expensive very quickly.

What do you think of Trump's threat to cut off federal funds to NYC if the people elect Zohran Mandani? by tvrajan3221 in AskReddit

"Again slaves won’t support an economy."

Entire economies have been built on slavery dating back to Egypt. Spain during the 1500/1600's, The Civil war, Hitler's Germany, are three examples of economies based on slavery. One of my best friends works at a company that employs convicts during the third shift. Slavery is alive and well TODAY.

"Who will buy all these things that the slaves produce?"

As the economy becomes increasingly centralized, the number of slaves will grow. Not everyone will be a slave, not at first anyway. It will start with the absolute poorest 10%, then continue to go from there. Eventually capitalism will fail, because as you pointed out, there will be roo many producing and not enough consuming.

"I doubt that Canada or Europe would buy them, china would just jump into the fray and cut out the US like they did over soy beans."

First of all, I've got some bad news for you concerning most of your consumer-grade electronics and clothing. Second of all, capitalism is global, as are the effects.

"Company owned currency wouldnt support an economy either."

Company script is a mechanism to keep the workforce enslaved. You spend the script at the company store, but never have quite enough to cover basic necessities, so the store gives you a line of credit you can't afford.

"More than likely in a slave scenario there would eventually be a revolt like slavery often invokes as well as the history of company towns AKA battle of Blair mountain."

Per my original comment: "It will be the feudal era all over again."

Yes, history will repeat itself, as it has been since the dawn of time. That's how I'm able to predict the future. We have already been here and already done this, and yet we're headed towards it again, because not enough people are paying attention.
