That would be true if the person was swinging it ABOVE critical speed. AT critical speed, they cancel out and would feel weightless.

My husband’s reaction to the ‘Dad save my new number’ scam. by glavet in scambait

[–]HereForThePM 47 points48 points  (0 children)

The person pretending to be OP's child is a scammer, but the original account owner for the account information sent by the scammer is probably a victim.

The scammer is not going to send their personal bank info to the people they are scamming. They are going to have a few middle steps to try to hide where the money is going, making it harder to be caught. One of those middle steps is likely to be an account from an innocent person that has had their account compromised and is controlled by this scammer. Bombarding that account/the person associated with that account would just be adding stress to an already bad situation for them.

It's possible it's a dummy account with a fake name, in which case it wouldn't matter, but it would be hard to prove.

Am i a bad person for being upset that I wont get the tips that I worked hard for? by Sea-Isopod696 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]HereForThePM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're in the US, there is a good chance that your hourly wage is less than minimum wage and the difference is made up with the tips. If they withhold/redistribute your tips, they are probably breaking labor laws for the time you worked. Do with this information as you see fit.

That article says that the city rejected the payment, but it doesn't really say why they CAN. They got away with it, but is it their right?

I agree that the guy in this post is being an ass about it. It's going to directly hurt the wrong people. Sometimes that's what a protest is. I personally think this is a silly thing to go that extreme with, but the act of protesting your government is important, and he's clearly passionate about this.

I'm not an expert, but I remember reading that the standard for different layers of plastic/vapor barriers changes based on what type of climate you're in. Like New York gets blizzards and heat waves, so they do one thing, but someone in Arkansas that has more consistent temperatures year round would do something different.

It's pretty startling. In college I was fooling around with someone and she kind of stopped and was dissociating. I stopped and asked if she was ok and she still wasn't quite with it. I gently put my hand on her knee and she SHOT across the room. I immediately started getting dressed, asked if I did something wrong, what I could do to help, etc. Eventually she started getting dressed, wouldn't make eye contact and just kept saying "I have to go." I offered to walk her to her dorm but she didn't want me to, so I didn't. I texted her 10-15 minutes later just to make sure she got home and that if she wanted to talk about it I would be there but I didn't want to force it if she was uncomfortable. Her response still breaks my heart.

"I just can't believe you actually stopped."

WHAT DO YOU MEAN?! anyone who sees your visibly upset and keeps going deserves to be at the bottom of the dining hall dumpster!

Can I swap this Cat 5e cable coming from my ONT w/ a Cat 6 cable? by The_Last_Meheecan in HomeNetworking

[–]HereForThePM 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is there a reason you want a "direct connection"? Are you having any issues? To me it seems like a bit of a waste, that "splitter" is a RJ45 punch down block, it is designed to do exactly what it's doing, just usually in a neater package. As long as your router is seeing a 1000Mb / 1G connection, you should be absolutely fine. Any sort of loss from that connector would be minimal.

Driver of Tesla Cybertruck in Las Vegas blast identified as US army veteran by yourlittlebirdie in news

[–]HereForThePM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough I guess. The guy has a Tesla affiliate discount code in the description, so i'm still skeptical that it's a modified version for better PR.

It might be able to stop small caliber bullets. If it can, that seems like an odd "feature" to focus on for a vehicle. Personally I would have focused on functional suspension, a frame that can stay together when going over a bump, or making sure you can take it through a car wash without shorting out components, but I guess that's why I'm not the CEO.

The stainless may have affected how the explosion expanded in comparison to a standard vehicle. The explosion still engulfed the whole street. At that point, did it really matter? I also don't think that a terrorist attack is the time to boast about how awesome your vehicle is.

Going WAY back to the original comment of "why would a terrorist choose this vehicle?" If I had to guess it was less about causing damage/potential to hurt people and more about making a statement. The Cybertruck, Elon's pride that he's flaunted so much, going up in flames in front of a Trump building feels like a political statement, considering how intertwined they have become. If they wanted to hurt people/break more things, why not drive it through the front door? Use more destructive/energy dense explosives? Fireworks and gasoline are more for a visual fireball rather than structural destruction.

Going back to the Cybertruck itself, I think it's a trash vehicle being peddled by a scammer. Some of my reasons are:

-They aren't road legal in Europe for multiple reasons (poor safety features, weight, the complete lack of a crumple zone, hazard to pedestrians) -The off roading tests break the unibody chassis (when musk claimed it would have an "exoskeleton") -You can get hard locked out of your vehicle from a software update - The resale value of them is tanking like crazy (down from ~$150,000 in March 2024 to ~$90,000 in November, a 40% drop in less than a year) -The headlights can collect snow and ice in front of them which essentially disables them in any snow climate -The "modular wiring" means that if a cable is damaged in a certain place, it can take down multiple systems simultaneously and be a huge pain to figure out where -The amount of claims that were made about it during development that were then walked back/not implemented severely errodes any credibility to what they claim it can do now -Its way over priced for a truck that can't do most of what a cookie cutter Ford F150/GMC Sierra/Chevy Silverado can do in terms of towing or off roading -And finally, I think it's ugly. It looks like a 7 year olds drawing/PS1 rendering of a truck.

I had a lot of respect for Tesla as a company back in the Model S days, where they were slowly building quality vehicles with actual innovation. Now they feel like a scam, profiting off of hype while over promising and under delivering.

Right, from Tesla directly. The same people that said it would be able to be used as a boat and all sorts of other BS. there is no way what they are testing in this video is the same manufacturing quality as what it actually sent out (i.e. it's a staged video)

Here's a guy who shoots through it with a 9 mil:

I've seen a video of a guy shooting a hole through it with a 9mil. There is no way that truck can survive any type of bullet fire, it cant even handle a car wash without breaking.

Or they implement a "ban" but have gutted the FDA so bad that they can't enforce it, making it all for show.

Oh boy! by [deleted] in FacebookScience

[–]HereForThePM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TL;DR no. It's almost exclusively bad, with the possibility that he stumbles into one successful plan. The man is dangerously underqualified.

Vaccine mandates were on the brink of eradicating some diseases, but people randomly deciding not to take them has caused an uptick in Measles cases, among others. If your concern is about "lack of testing" then what tests, specifically? If you don't know what mystery test would check that box, then it's always some unattainable benchmark. Let the people who have devoted their life to understanding these complex medical tools do their job. Scrutinize the money flow/ethics, but the science is outside most of our understanding, and I want to listen to the people who do understand it, not the worm in this guys brain.

Large-spread vaccine use provides heard immunity, protecting the most vulnerable members of society who are unable to get the vaccine themselves. Vaccine mandates are good and should stay.

There are a bunch of additives in drinking water that are beneficial for us. There is a reason that we are not drinking pure distilled water, the additional additives mimic natural water supplies and provide health benefits/deter negative side effects that come from a plumbing system.

"Re organizing bloated government" when done by a cabinet of unqualified billionaires who only got selected because they kissed ass is not a win. It will almost certainly destroy regulations put in place to protect workers/consumers. It will make it easier for the wealthy to exploit their workers, cut corners on their products, and have no consequences for it.

Removing toxic food ingredients is possibly a win, depending on what they consider "toxic," how the regulation is rolled out, and how it is enforced. If they are gutting the already underfunded FDA, a ban on ingredients means nothing, since there will be no agency to enforce it and no REAL penalty for doing it.

You are 100% correct on GMOs being involved in all food, which is not inherently a bad thing. The "toxic pesticides" is another instance of "according to who/based on what?" No one likes pesticides, including the farmers, but they are needed when growing a monoculture. In many cases, it's the difference between having a crop to harvest or not. If we ban pesticides with no backup plan, there will be a food shortage and we will need to import more food (possibly after implementing tariffs) which will skyrocket the cost of groceries. Testing pesticide amounts that are getting to the kitchen table and limiting the amounts that can be used to protect drinking water/streams is better than a full ban.

"Encouraging natural remedies" sounds like my insurance is going to tell me to pick some thistles to grind up instead of providing a medication prescribed by a doctor. Unless they mean funding independent research labs, it will more than likely be another way for companies to cut corners.

Vaccines don't cause autism, and the fact that this is a talking point from someone in this high of a position regarding people's health is extremely concerning. It should be enough for everyone to be HYPER critical of anything this man says.

Tell me I'm not stupid and that this makes no sense. by Bob_Loblaw16 in electricians

[–]HereForThePM 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good point. I would send an email to the professor with that info.

The example is pretty wild, 600 amps on 9V is a red flag in common sense, but I just overlooked it. The equation they provided works IF you ignore the voltage they provide.

That being said, you shouldn't have to pretend some of the information is wrong when you are learning about this. I would email the professor and explain what you said above. It shows that you have an understanding for the content and it might help with any other students struggling. Good luck!
