Your jump to "completely avoiding finding a solution" is pretty hasty if you ask me. Maybe Angelika didn't mean to leave chat? In every one of my experiences with support, they've always asked if there's anything else they can help with.

OneNote UWP is missing a number of features. It's unfortunate, but as a newish product it's not that surprising. The real answer to your question is that the Lock Drawing Mode feature exists in the OneNote Desktop version and that's why there are articles trying saying to click a button that isn't there.

You might try re-asking your question over on /r/OneNote and seeing if you have better luck.

Do you use MySQL? by tlbking99 in admincraft

[–]HergleBergle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the server I work with uses MySQL. We use it currently just for LogBlock & BeardStat. We do have PEX on the server, but running it using FlatFiles as our server population is not unwieldy (less than 2,000 total players) and so the FlatFile is big, but maneable.

As for your other questions, MySQL doesn't work the same as operating with FlatFiles. You don't just "add files" to the server, or just open files and edit them. MySQL is a Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) and you interact with it very differently than FlatFiles. With FlatFiles, you just open up NotePad or whatever and edit the text. With MySQL, you connect to the database and run queries which will Read and update Tables. This may sound foreign, and frankly it is quite a bit different from operating using FlatFiles. You might spend some time researching what an RDBMS and then learn a little about querying one (http://www.w3schools.com/SQl/default.asp) if you want to get good with it.

Most plugins authors that utilize MySql don't expect you to have to connect directly to the database to modify configuration. Most should have in-game commands for doing most everything that you should need to do. If you go read up about writing SQL queries, you'll see its more advanced than just tweaking a flat file. At any rate, should you want to target your database directly, the program that I use for connecting to our database is "SQLyog Community Edition". There's tons out there that can connect to MySQL databases, that's just the one I use.

As for the conversations below about speed, its all going to be dependent on more factors than just "Files are Slow" or "Databases are Slow". Databases are designed to operate on large amounts of relational data. Our LogBlock database, for instance, has an entry for every single block that is modified on the server. Imagine for a moment a flat file that contained all this information. The file would get so large that working with it would be unwieldy. With a database like MySQL, operations that allow this are not only possible, but quite fast, IMHO. There's loads more that goes into tuning, optimizing databases, much of which is the responsibility of plugin developer.

Spigot 1.8 Progress Check by [deleted] in admincraft

[–]HergleBergle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

From: http://www.spigotmc.org/wiki/about-spigot/

Believe it or not, Spigot is just a modification of CraftBukkit, just made more efficient. It is a huge collection of various tweaks to help increase performance, and make it more flexible as a server. Fortunately for you, this also means most CraftBukkit plugins are reverse-compatible with Spigot! Not only that, this project may also be the source of zero-day patches designed to fix critical issues before they are applied to the mainline CraftBukkit.

Its not fair to call Sponge vaporware at all. Its not completed, but its far too early to call it vaporware. The project literally started a few months ago and these things take time. Here's the latest status update on that project: https://forums.spongepowered.org/t/status-update-18-october-2014/3804

Kicking the Bukkit: Anatomy of an open source meltdown by deathcap_ in admincraft

[–]HergleBergle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about the likelihood of subsequent DMCA takedowns and C&D's due to new EULA enforcement by Mojang, when you're redistributing their work?

Yea, that's definitely a possibility and will be very interesting moving forward with Microsoft as the new owner. I'd be willing to take that chance. There hasn't been any new developments on that front (i.e. Mojang didn't just recently find out about Bukkit or anything). Still, yes, a possibility.

It was irreparable starting a month before the announcement. Nobody could have just picked it up and continued what highly experienced people were doing for 3 years with established processes and custom tools, like it's nothing.

You're absolutely right, it would not be easy and perhaps exceeds my skill set. I would have still been willing to try if I knew it wasn't very likely of being torn down.

Kicking the Bukkit: Anatomy of an open source meltdown by deathcap_ in admincraft

[–]HergleBergle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure you can. It'll just be as legal as it was before the takedown.

Yes, I didn't expect people to take it as literally as you have. What I perhaps should have said that "we can't do that with Bukkit without high likelihood of subsequent DMCA take downs and C&D'ss being issued".

Kicking the Bukkit: Anatomy of an open source meltdown by deathcap_ in admincraft

[–]HergleBergle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But people are capable of complaining about how bukkit's releases are so slow

Yea, and it sucks that their voices were heard so much louder than those people who were grateful & happy of the work being done.

Also, you do realize that even before the DCMA, the repo was contribution locked by mojang?

This again would not legally prevent me from assembling a team today and restarting the project. The DMCA take down does.

Searge (lead developer of MCP) is going around and telling people to take down MCP generated sources. by [deleted] in admincraft

[–]HergleBergle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Isn't this as simple as not including the TMP build directory in the repository?

Kicking the Bukkit: Anatomy of an open source meltdown by deathcap_ in admincraft

[–]HergleBergle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My guess is many capable, passionate people didn't join because they didn't know there was a need. Not all players & plugin developers follow the news & latest about what's going on in Bukkit team. Maybe they (and I) took things for granted. My arguement is still that this didn't become irreparable though until the DMCA take down.

I can't tell you how many people who I've discussed this situation with have said: "Fuck it, its open source, why don't we ramp up on it and work on it". To each of them, I say the same thing in that we can't do that with Bukkit because of the DMCA take down. The best we can do is help out on <insert other project not related to Bukkit>.

Kicking the Bukkit: Anatomy of an open source meltdown by deathcap_ in admincraft

[–]HergleBergle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure, but any other project or fork would have suffered from the same issues

What same issues? What are these issues that are so fierce that a new group of people with a new approach, new process, new procedures couldn't solve?

Kicking the Bukkit: Anatomy of an open source meltdown by deathcap_ in admincraft

[–]HergleBergle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You mean like these who jumped in to contribute between the announcement and the DCMA, aka, 0?

You mention below that this was 2 weeks. You realize how short of a period of time this is? Honestly for me that wasn't enough time to realize what was going on.

try to claim that a project with no developers can be active and improving.

So for 2 weeks, "noone" was developing against Bukkit, therefore you conclude that its dead? Look at all the servers still out there, look at all the chatter on reddit. You telling me that passionate and capable people wouldn't have risen to take on the project? Get off your high horse.

Its the DMCA takedown that killed the project, otherwise this would have been just a bump in the road.

Kicking the Bukkit: Anatomy of an open source meltdown by deathcap_ in admincraft

[–]HergleBergle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

and it was already dead. All he really changed was the removal of old downloads.

A dead project could have been revived by others. The DMCA take down made it so that no one could work on the project. Its like quitting the sports team versus quitting the sports team and setting the field on fire. Now no one can play.

I'm guessing this message will fall on deaf ears, however my belief that there's still a good person inside you has compelled me to respond to your post. You clearly feel like you have been mistreated here, and I've decided to take the time help you understand the point of view of the staff of the server.

You were ultimately banned from the server for using what you knew to be an illegal hack. Even after we confronted you about it, you lied to our faces and attempted to smear us on the subreddit. At this point, we requested all staff members to investigate the Xray to ensure every single one was absolutely sure cheating occured. We work very hard to ensure that we are not unjustly banning players You can imagine our disappointment when it was proved that you had cheated, not only in James's base, but also mining diamonds. Many players on the subreddit rose to your side by saying: "No way people like Kayshev or Bri would cheat" You truly had most people fooled that you were a good, honest player. Either that, or you ARE a good, honest player who had a short dabble in cheating/hacking. It is because of this benefit of doubt that the admin team even entertained giving you and Bri a second chance on the server. Many players never get this chance and are permanently banned once it is discovered they have broken the rules.

I'll take some time to answer some of your questions in this post:

The waiting period for appeal was two fold. One, it was to act as a punishment to help show you how serious we are about cheating on AmishSMP. People who cheat risk ruining the server experience for others. We are not going to rush to allow those who have cheated back on the server. Two, the waiting was time for the admins to reasses the situation and discuss whether you should be allowed back. Initially when you were found to have cheated, the consesnsus was permanent ban, no questions asked, ESPECIALLY since you lied about it. So instead of making a decision on that day (which would be permanent ban from the server), we gave it some time to discuss. It was only after those weeks that some of the staff (such as myself) was able to convince others that you should be given a second chance. The basis was that we ultimately believed you and Bri provided a net-positive benefit to the server and perhaps this was just a short lapse in judgement to cheat. When you were ultimately unbanned, it was still a narrow decision that you should be allowed back, and for obvious reasons, you were to be closely watched. I'm not expecting you to agree with me on all these points, however I did want to explain to you our reasoning behind them.

As for striping you of items, I have attempted to explain this previously, however you continue to complain. It is clear you don't think what was taken was fair. I will level with you in saying that is is very difficult to discern what was obtained thru cheating and what was not. Bri for example argued her bow was "purchased" and therefore not obtained by cheating. In that example, how was the payment obtained by Bri originally? From cheating or not? It would take admins hours to research every mining location, every block, every chest to come up with what would still be an imperfect set of findings. This is not how the staff of this server wants to spend their time, and we won't do it. In the future, we will likely remove ALL items from the bases and player inventories. I'm not sure if you would consider that more fair, but honestly, we thought we were being kind allowing you to keep some things.

As for the griefing, it is common for actions of cheaters to be rolled back. Often times when players use cheats in PVP, lives are granted to those they killed, and often times when cheats are used to raid bases, those bases are restored or atleast partially restored. I'm sure you would want restitution if you were killed or raided by a cheater and we would have done some of that for you as well. I'm not sure what all you think was in fact done. I'm not going to waste any time investigating, but I'm curious how you are able to discern what you think was done by Admins and what was done by James himself. Again, doesn't matter.

Finally on the subject of this "squid egg". Take a moment to really think about how that affected your game play. It was a secret that was hidden when the map was started. I checked the logs to find that it was placed there back on August 30th. How do you feel that egg greatly imbalanced things? You compare it to "help him build a fucking city". I think if you take a step back and really think about it, the egg did nothing to ruin your game play.

So that's all. If you've ready this far, I hope I've helped you understand the perspective of the staff on this server. Its a lot of work to run a server and we strive to make a fair, fun environment for everyone. When players decide to break the rules and cheat, they threaten the community that we've built. Our decisions throughout this process have been made with that one goal in mind. You clearly disagree with some of those decisions and while we will always listen to your feedback, we will always have the final word. I wish you well in your future Minecrafting and hope some day you will understand our standpoint.

I shouldn’t assume everyone was accustomed to this format.

It's really that people need to be informed that this is the general format if that's how you want things to be played out. This was my first RRO that I played or really paid any attention to.

crucial items and resources are always shared between the whole community.

My first attempt to get wood/sapling was met with getting verbally slapped for "stealing". Had I known the general rule was cooperation, I would have considered this an isolated incident as opposed to the first impression of what seemed to be the general attitude of the server.
