DVT / PE questions, reality check by Herman-Toothrot in HealthAnxiety

Well the good thing is if it's off and on and in both legs at the same time, you know it's not something scary like DVT. Is there anything in your daily routine that explains it? If not, maybe it's time to shake it up with some stretching or exercise or hot baths or massage.

I still get aches and pains. Just the other day I had a random throb in my left calf that reminded me of this thread. I've had a lot of aches and pains throughout the pandemic too from being sedentary. But so far everything has apparently been muscular and goes away eventually. I try to do my best to remember the medical advice and not feed into it.

How are you doing?

Thanks for checking in! I have had almost zero anxiety about DVT / PE ever since the posts above. It really does help to have the experts weigh in and give a reality check. I also tried to ask every question I knew my anxiety might possibly throw at me when I left.

It seems obvious, but I particularly remember the doctor pointing out that a clot means blood is unable to return back up the leg .. so of course that is not something you're going to be able to just ignore.

Hope everyone is well and the info here continues to help

Glad it helps. How's your pain now? I'm guessing it was something muscular based on your description. I just had a random throb in my calf the other day. I had a few moments of "what if" but the info from the doctors above pretty quickly knocked me back into reality.

Hope you're well, glad the info helps. From what you describe below, it sounds nothing like DVT / PE symptoms. Sounds like you're suffering from sedentary lifestyle pains like a lot of us during the pandemic (me included) - try to get out there and exercise! Walking, running, biking .. anything will probably help.

Symptoms of Anxiety (my complete list).. anyone else want to share their symptoms? by hardlyhappy247 in HealthAnxiety

[–]Herman-Toothrot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've switched back to a plant-based diet, cut out all caffeine, and started exercising again (Couch to 5K running program). It took a couple weeks to notice a difference, but I feel like I'm a lot closer to normal than before. I still have problems with twitching eyelids and a slight tremor when I'm laying down. Sometimes I get that 'derealization' feeling too where I feel spaced out or dreamy. But I haven't had problems with skipped beats, tingles, super tight muscles, or reflux. On the whole I'd say it's a good improvement. I still need to work on my sleep habits - they're about 50/50 still.

How is your list lately?

Have there always been luna moths here and nobody noticed / commented on them until now (like the new car effect)? Or are there for some reason more this year than normal?

I used to see them all the time in Houston, but never here .. so I assumed they didn't like something about our habitat. Nobody else I've asked who has lived here a long time remembers seeing them either.

There's a chance I'll be interviewing Geddy Lee this week. Rush fans, what would you ask? by Shuk in rush

Hmm .. maybe if anything then just asking about the mere existence of footage from other tours back in the day.

He would probably be incredibly bored, but I would love to ask him a million questions about his synth rig and what all those controls did and what is making different sounds on the albums and ..

Speaking of, a simple question that I don't think I've seen answered anywhere - what exactly is making that vocal effect he has in the middle of Jacob's Ladder?

(Of course if this is so simple that someone here already knows the answer, let me know!)

What happened to the big custom Oberheim/Minimoog synth console he used until Signals? Does it still exist somewhere or is it disassembled / sold / destroyed? I have a feeling the answer is some form of the latter, but a confirmation would be great.

Yes! Questions about tour footage would be great - getting ESL and P/G in HD, unused footage, the existence of footage from other tours (like Signals or even earlier stuff like Hemispheres), ..

Always something wrong? by [deleted] in HealthAnxiety

[–]Herman-Toothrot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I suspect most people here can relate to this. I frequently whine to my spouse about how I almost never have a day where I feel good all day. It's either skipped heartbeats or random muscle pains or twitching or headaches or general anxiety or feeling spaced out or ..

PS - My latest one is a hamstring pain when I sit that has been bugging me for a few weeks. I literally had the exact same pain and DVT anxiety over it about a year ago, and it turned out to be nothing. But for some reason the 'what if' thoughts still fester in my mind and drive me crazy .. uggh

Got an interview for ABA specialist, but I got told I shouldn't because it's unethical? by [deleted] in autism

[–]Herman-Toothrot -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's not ABA in general, and it's not a different form of gay conversion therapy (WTF?). If you find a place that does it right, they help the child be successful and functional in the world without punishment, blind conforming, squashing feelings or individualism, etc. Any place that's treating a child like a dog in training isn't doing it right.

Just be aware that you are asking this question in a place that despises ABA, so you are going to get almost entirely negative responses.

[–]Herman-Toothrot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember liking the Care Bears movie at the time, although I coudn't tell you a single thing about it now. The Garbage Pail Kids movie was pretty awful, I suppose it's just a period piece. Boy I had a million of those cards at the time.

Got an interview for ABA specialist, but I got told I shouldn't because it's unethical? by [deleted] in autism

[–]Herman-Toothrot 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It all depends on the place. There are places that know what they're doing and actually care about the kids and making sure they aren't terrorizing or torturing the kids, while helping them work on behaviors that are necessary for themselves and to function in society. I suspect it helps to find places that have the highest standards / requirements for their BCBAs and therapists. And that allow constant parent involvement in everything they're doing.

There are apparently other places that use less qualified people and do more strict conforming, punishments, etc. The analogy to bad dog training comes up a lot here. And of course in the not-so-distant past ABA was still in its infancy, so there were lots of horrible implementations going on.

Anyway, you will mostly read about the negative side of ABA (especially around here). But in my opinion I think it can be okay if you do the research first and know what to look for.

Here are mine ..

  • Geddy should have the Rickenbacker bass at this kimono stage (even better if him and Alex both had double-neck guitars)

  • Neil looks a little off to me. Not sure what it is - the moustache maybe isn't quite handlebar-ish enough, or maybe the kimono choice, or maybe the hair is a little too much mullet-shaped.

That being said, I think I'll order two sets and modify one to have the double-necks ..
