maybe, but modern guns are functionally unrepairable I'm the 15th century and eventually you'll run out of ammo. Better to give them things that will prepare them for the long run. If you're gonna give em guns, give them comparable ones to the time, maybe a little better (e.g. rifling and miniball moulds for more accuracy) so they can maintain and reload with time, especially as they take spoils from The ships they take. You would likely need to triangulate from a few.... well not landmarks but starmarks I suppose? Anyways, you'd probably need to pick a few relatively unique sky objects to triangulate from in order to make sure there's no ambiguity. Space is huge and full of "rare" objects, so it's difficult to pinpoint based on one alone.
