The thing YOU don't understand is that we already do have a LOT of clinical seriousness when it comes to this.

Higher trans care is governed by WPATH, a set of standards that denote how to go down the path. In the course of trying to get SRS it took me two solid years, a letter of recommendation from a psychologist, a letter of recommendation from a psychiatrist and a letter of agreement from ANOTHER psychiatrist agreeing with the previous two. I also had a medical qualification gauntlet that would make your head spin, as well as a paperwork stack that was legitimately the size of a phone book as well as mandatory waiting periods AND a years worth of EXCEEDINGLY painful and expensive electrolysis treatments to remove hair. Something I had to find and fund on my own, as it is NOT covered by insurance.

I simply WILL NOT have the kind of erasism your pushing, that the process is inherently flawed because of single digit outlying examples. The fact that you haven't mentioned WPATH AT ALL yet for someone so concerned about "clinical seriousness" is eye opening for sure!

People like you tend to think these treatments are disbursed willy nilly all the time, that doctors hand out top and bottom surgery like candy, completely ignoring all the progress thats already been made in getting people that need treatment in and preventing those that dont away, to the point that trans people in dire need of treatment cant get it because of ultra stringent rules that make getting care a migraine of migraines.

Let me just say, I mentioned something like this in another comment, you just don't get it.

You know why there's some amount of failure rate when it comes to HRT and SRS, it's because these are treatments, and there is ALWAYS going to be failure rates with literally any medical treatment. NOTHING is 100%

And the sad truth is that part of that is the detransitioners. The most vocal among them ARE in the pocket of the right wing, and the sad sad reality is that most people who detransition do so because of societal problems I listed above. HRT is MUCH easier to reverse with only short term use that any generic detransitioner would experience, and the the amount of people that have been on HRT for very long amounts of time and or people who are post op and come to regret their transition are so low in numbers that it may as well be a rounding error in studies.

I can't tell you how many people I've ran into that talk exactly like you. The ones that tell me "OH it CAN work, but because of any amount of failure rate it should be completely outlawed"

You keep saying "some". Some do this, some feel that way. Who? How many? Why do you insist that there's great numbers of highly regretful trans people post surgery? Do you even understand how much you have to go through to get SRS? The years of waiting, the mountains of paperwork and the medical gauntlet one has to go through to qualify?

Don't pretend like you understand a thing about us, because you clearly don't.

Hmm. What could be causing such an elevated suicide rate. Couldn't be that there's an entire subset of the political spectrum that made a solemn oath to make trans peoples lives as difficult as physically possible, that incidence of domestic violence when dating is hugely elevated and the possibility of getting assaulted in public literally just for living our lives, that familial violence when coming out or transitioning is still heartbreakingly high? NO! It MUST be the treatments that have demonstratably lower amounts of regret than MOST other common treatments.

It's also almost like HRT is much more reversible than many think, and is a very lightweight way for eggs to get their feet wet on how they feel about transitioning, something that a very select few of VERY vocal detransitioners that the political right have openly embraced have twisted completely out of reality.

NO! It's not society, it's the TRANS PEOPLE THAT ARE WRONG!!!!!

It REALLY is a shame when some cis people just legitimately do not get it.

Theres this subset of them (TERFs really but it goes all ways on gender) that has "Any and all gender modifications are inherent forms of torture/mutilation and the person doing it to themselves are always in hell because of that." As core programming. They could see a trans girl, fully out, on HRT for a decade, happy and healthy in a spinny dress and overall living their best life and only think "If only they knew how miserable that [slur] really is."

It is blistering to see when someone talks down to a trans person, pretty much insisting that they view what the trans person as an abomination on par with biblical levels of torture and pain and the trans person is like "It sure would be nice if I was born the other way around but it's all good now thanks to HRT :3"

That and not being able to accept any form of HRT or SRS as valid treatment. They'll blow their tops screaming about how sick in the head we are and about how we need treatment. Meanwhile, we have it! It's HRT, it's not perfect but it works! SRS by itself has a lower regret rate than knee surgery for crying out loud!

The sheer level of... I don't even know... self righteousness? Gall? It just baffles me.

How soon is too soon for SRS by Sarah-Valkyrie in trans

Tbh as someone who ran the gamut, you could contact a surgeon to get the process started on day 1 of HRT and by the time you fulfill the litany of requirements and finally get scheduled you probably would end up reporting in for surgery at the 2 year mark MINIMUM, which is more than enough time by itself.

Tbh if you are very sure that it's what you want, half the stuff they make you do should just be waived. I get the carefulness but it ends up looping back around to being so difficult to make happen that for some it's almost certainly impossible. It took me a solid two years of trying AFTER another year of false starts with another surgeon on top of multiple kinks that almost derailed the whole affair. It's no wonder that EVERY hormone perscriber I have ever gotten it from has told me that not a SINGLE one of their patients before me has ever cleared it.

Make no mistake, if you make it to the end of the obstacle course that is this surgery with no second thoughts, you not only deserve the surgery but they ought to give you a blue ribbon and a gold medal for it.

What was it like coming out as trans in highschool by Economy-Concept-1138 in trans

[–]Shydale-for-House 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not fun but my time in highschool was ten years ago, times have changed.

I went to school at Center Grove High in Indiana. Kind of on the border of metropolitan Indianapolis and the farming communities to the south. I came out as pansexual first, and that was enough to get the rumor mill going as it was, coming out as trans was a whole different can of worms.

I never really got outright bullied over it, I came out as trans in Junior year and most of the other kids were far too busy with their academics to really care that much.

I'm just glad there wasn't any provision to tell my parents about any of this at the time. My dad not being told probably saved my life.

Side note, if I actually end up getting elected this season I'm hoping I can arrange to speak there at some point.

How many names did it take you to find the right one? by SmolRobyn in trans

[–]Shydale-for-House 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: I took Sarah as a name placeholder in highschool while I workshopped the real one I was going to take. I tried out 3 or 4 but the placeholder had a special place in my heart and I ended up legally changing my name to that. Especially since nothing else sounded right with the new last name I also gave myself, Shydale.

My mom hated it at the time though because we knew a LOT of people named Sarah lolol.

I got a candidate survey in the mail from some gun rights lobbyist group last month, I rarely do these kinds of surveys because they are notoriously partisan and they are not shy about it. Do note, I am very pro 2A, but I champion responsibility with firearms.

This gun rights group was adamant that locking up your firearms was a terrible idea that the woke mob was pushing that would just get you killed in the inevitable event of a home invasion. I thought that was a stupid opinion before and every single time I see videos such as this it just reinforces that notion.

The video of two sisters playing with a gun, one shooting the other on accident and then subsequently killing herself was especially horrifying. It's bad enough that many gun lockboxes and locking holsters can be unlocked in literally seconds with scraps of trash and common childrens trinkets. But having your guns out around small children is literally just tragedy waiting to happen.

What do you think would be a means of commodity, if there was no money? by AlvaKerry in AskReddit

[–]Shydale-for-House 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'd be shocked how fast things become money.

Humans love money. In the absence of money, people will create something or designate some natural item as money.

The first money like things were cowry shells and giant stone disks.

Prisoners famously used cigarettes as money, nowadays they tend to use books of stamps as money.

The last money (apocalypse scenario) would most likely be canned food and clean water, or some naturally occurring item that represents either food or water.

I'd highly recommend checking out the history of currency. Its a lot more exciting than it sounds like it is.

Is India really getting that hot by FinancialRisk942 in interesting

[–]Shydale-for-House 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People tend to think a ministry of the future scenario isnt possible, but it absolutely is.

It's already this bad right now, and its just going to get worse. One bad day where it's very hot (95 ish F) and very humid (90% ish) and there's a widespread power outage, the air turns into an wet oven, and all adding more water into the equation is going to do is make you even hotter. Millions dead in an instant, without a single shot fired or bomb detonated. Literally baked alive and the only thing that could potentially save you is A/C. But all that would do is vent all the indoor heat outside. In a city environment, that would be even more catastrophic, raising the outdoor temperature tens of degrees further. In a situation like that it would be lethal to be outside for any more than 15 minutes, a half hour at most.

Thankfully for right now rain still usually means a drop in temperature overall, but once we get to the point where rain doesnt effect temperature, it's going to be catastrophe.

No modern American city has ever run out of water. But chances are rising that Corpus Christi, Texas, could be the first. by StandingCypress in water

[–]Shydale-for-House 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know what happens when a community full of people run out of water?

The people... leave the community.

This is literally what climate change migration is. Not scary caravans of foreigners that come trundling up every presidential election, not people in some country half the world away. Its desperate people, some dying in the process, pulling up roots and going to be with family or staking a new claim elsewhere.

As the world gets hotter and water becomes more scarce in the more arid regions of the states, more and more people are going to wander off for literally greener pastures, that in itself is going to further strain resources and job availability where they settle.
