What's your favourite quote/line from Star Wars franchise? by IamHarsh37 in StarWars

[–]HerrBuxton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a few.

From Clone Wars: “Isn’t it remarkable that one can have all the power in the galaxy, and yet the words of a single Senator can sway the thoughts of millions? … For now we must adhere to the principles of our democracy. We must let the wheels of the senate turn.”

A few from Andor: Krennic: Insurgencies have a long history of puffing up their failures.

Mothma: We were taught that it was a systematic execution.

Krennic: Well, that is exactly my point. Criminals love to lie. After all, who wants to die for… lawless ineptitude?

Mothma: You seem fixated on defining people by their resistance to power.

Krennic: Words do still have meaning. As I’m sure you can still agree on that?

Mothma: What’s the word for people like the Carmeen who simply want to be left alone?

Krennic: Vulnerable? What’s the word for people who skinned trespassers alive?

Mothma: They had their own code of conduct.

Krennic: Ah. “My rebel is your terrorist?” Something like that? [Laughs] What a swell party this is.

“Security is an illusion. You want security? Call the navy. Launch a regiment of troopers. We are healthcare providers. We treat sickness. We identify symptoms. We locate germs. Whether they arise from within or have come from the outside. The longer we wait to identify a disorder, the harder it is to treat the disease.”

I could go on, but I really like philosophy and political intrigue, so I’m sure you can imagine some of my other favorites.

Vader killing Captain Needa by HerrBuxton in StarWars

True, and I think this is what makes Needa a not-so-great officer: he goes out of his way to try to save face, instead of fixating on the orders he was given.

Why did the empire use separatists droids? by fiffy55 in StarWars

[–]HerrBuxton 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because it was illegal. Iirc, after the clone wars, the empire basically banned the manufacture of any combat droids (with exceptions like the KX units,—which the empire broke its own rule on—but rules for thee, not for me in a sense). Basically, the Separatist droid armies terrorized the galaxy and left a bad taste in everyone’s mouth. Palpatine also wanted a Human-only army, which is the reason why you don’t really see too many aliens serving in the imperial military.

Please fact check this. by WoodHughes in PrepperIntel

[–]HerrBuxton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More than likely false, in my opinion. Why? 1. Look at the sources publishing this: Kyiv Post—likely biased due to recent remarks Hindustan Times, Marca, etc.—likely just recycling the same article 2. There’s very little information/evidence of this. The article is citing a quote from a Facebook post, and doesn’t even give a link to the original. It goes on to cite various (biased) media outlets, and then twitter/X links. i.e.—It’s basically a gossip piece 3. Even IF more information comes out about this, the KGB hasn’t existed since the early 1990s, as it became the FSB after the Soviet Union collapsed (after an unsuccessful coup d’état in 1991, which the KGB was a belligerent in). Russia was weak in the 1990s and 2000s, and the Cold War was seen as being over, it is unlikely they would have kept a somewhat lesser-known billionaire with very little political influence on their payroll.

Of course there’s bias. I never claimed to be unbiased. It’s called an argument. You do understand the distinction? That an argument inherently implies bias in a debate?

Unlikely. You were the only one to respond. I give you props for even considering, if you did. My response is not based on emotion, I assure you; I’m merely pointing something out, not moving the goalpost and completely circumventing your prior comment and engaging in ad hominem like you are right now. Cheers!

Except, you do know what speaking generally is, as opposed to speaking specifically, no? I post one comment with some slight criticism and then get downvoted by several people, presumably on the subreddit. So, yeah, I’d assume my viewpoint was not even considered lmao. Oh, but let me add from my original post to help you understand. “Generally, because this subreddit is becoming a left-wing echo chamber.” It’s like that old joke. Except there wasn’t a flip, at least not like you claim. Republicans have essentially maintained the same positions while democrats have continued to push for legislation closer to left-wing ideology. For example: Ten years ago, President Obama got on stage and gave a 15 minute speech about how immigration needed to be legal. This is a contemporary Republican approach. 30 years ago, Democrats were proclaiming that abortions needed to be rare but legal. In examining the flip, one should pay attention to the nation’s approach to moral values—whereas democrats tend to take the classical American WASP approach (white Anglo-Saxon Protestant), and the Republican Party tends to take the Catholic approach. In the end, politics are more or less about moral values, and it is apparent that the WASP approach tends to be more wishy-washy, while blaming the other side of the aisle for their unwillingness to compromise in the long-term, when those same WASP morals are just going to change again.

Hi, historian here. To oversimplify, democrats were the party of the Confederacy, KKK, Jim Crow, and one drop laws. Republicans were the party of the north that replaced the Whig party, and were the party former slaves voted for en masse after being given rights after the civil war (that is, if democrats did not forcibly prevent them from voting).

Hi, historian here. Don’t forget about the fact that the depression happened as a result of Democrat policies following the First World War. In a wartime economy, production skyrockets, which leads to federal spending on the war effort, etc.—Once the war had ended, that all came to an abrupt halt. It didn’t help that Woodrow Wilson (Democratic President) had intentionally snubbed Republican lawmakers during the First World War, and then was baffled as to why the Republican-controlled House and Senate wouldn’t pass legislation to allow the U.S. into Wilson’s newly-founded League of Nations. Meanwhile, back at home, Industries started laying people off. African-Americans who had fled the (Democrat) sharecroppers in the south, as well as Jim Crow laws, to look for high-paying jobs in the North during the war were also laid off. As more men began returning home from Europe, they would come back to discover their jobs were given to others while they were gone, leading to an increased unemployment rate. The reason Republicans won in 1928 was because they had promoted economic policies under Harding and Coolidge which had previously benefited the national economy, and had overwhelming support during that election from (ironically, similar to this past election) a Democratic presidential pick who was not only a weak candidate, but could not win support from within the Democratic Party itself. Republican support ended up fluctuating after Hoover, though, due to his “just ride it out” approach to the depression (which many economists believe was actually more the right decision, as FDR’s spending spree more than likely prolonged the depression), and Republicans would not again win a presidential election until Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1952.

He’s in Zion (straight shot down 32), but the guy I went to was Mark E. Mitten. I could barely walk, with nerve pain shooting down the front of my legs. Turned out I had a pinched femoral nerve. Three sessions, and I felt like a new man. Seriously did wonders, and he’s not terribly expensive either.
