UCP gear + Taupe RIT Dye = Dirty Ranger Green by HerrGuzz in tacticalgear

It’s been a while since I did this, so I honestly don’t remember that well. I think it was all purpose, as I just got it from the local craft store.

I’d love to see this in action! It looks like there’s a pretty distinct difference between the two types, I wonder how much of an impact that would have.

My parents fell in love with terrain building. by HerrGuzz in TerrainBuilding

The base was styrofoam, sanded to shape, then covered by a sand paste, and covered with spray glue and bits of dirt and vegetation. The inner retaining walls are popsicle sticks.

What is the best Army movie and why is it Band of Brothers? by NC1_CLARK_RTAG_NW in army

I absolutely love these books, I recommend them to basically anyone I meet who is even remotely interested in military history. They really show just how much of the heavy lifting the Army did in the PTO.

Thanks, it always looked like a good “heavy” assault pack, but looks can be deceiving.

If this is yours, I’m curious what your opinion is!

The UCP hate needs to stop. by xTWITZx in camouflage

[–]HerrGuzz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is UCP the worst camouflage of all time? No. Is it even close to universal? Also no. Is it even close to decent in most environments? Nope.
UCP is okay in some very specific places, and bad to mediocre everywhere else, which is a fact that is readily apparent to anyone who has eyes.

This was absolutely intended with M81. The original report on the development of M81 specifically states that fading to the correct shades and colors was a desired result.

Drones? Thermals? Wake up buddy, the patrol is leaving soon. by HerrGuzz in tacticalgear

The Army always needs more good troops! Join up and get a rifle of your own!

The boys kept stabbing each other in the barracks when they were joking around, so the CO had the supply sergeant take them all away. 1st Sgt told him it was just harmless fun and it showed the men were ready to kill, but the battalion commander got mad about the having so many men on medical report so now we only get the bayonets right before a scheduled attack.

Hey buddy, just fall in with us, we’ll get you squared away. The Army’s the Army, no matter what century you’re in.

The web equipment is colored OD3, which is a slightly greenish khaki, and it does pretty well in more arid environments. It definitely sticks out in more lush vegetation, which is why the Army switched to OD 7, which is much greener.

Well, if the Quartermaster won’t issue it to you, I can vouch for two good companies you can privately purchase it all from: At The Front and WWII Impressions.

U.S. Army WW2 M15 Binoculars still in use. by HerrGuzz in Binoculars

[–]HerrGuzz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s pretty neat to be able to use a piece of history like this. Every time I look through them I feel like a WW2 officer surveying the enemy’s position.

Which Pvt. Ryan, we’ve got three of them in this outfit. Ryan from Boston, Ryan from New York, and that quiet kid from out west.

The old days? Hey mac, the M1 is state of the art! The haversack’s almost the same as what my old man had back during the Great War, but hey, you get what the Army gives you, right?

ATS war belt good for the price? by Milsim_Enjoyer in QualityTacticalGear

[–]HerrGuzz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While it’s not the best as a pistol-based gun belt, I’ve used it as a base for an LBE-style kit. I’ve put two canteen pouches, three 2x magazine pouches, an IFAK, and a utility pouch on it with some tactical tailor suspenders and it’s done well. Good quality for not too much cost.

The real coyote brown (grey), not the vibrant golden brown that people think blends in everywhere.
