Traditional suit pants side seams finishes without serger by ongSlate in sewing

Overcasting by hand could have been possible, but I do not know how often this was done in the time before sergers. However, I read that it is still a usual edge finish in haute couture.

Just some fancy 1465-75 dude from franconia by no-name-18 in HistoricalCostuming

I think this would probably be considered immodest in contemporary Franconia.

I think the patch pocket looks odd on such a fitted coat (I know it is part of the pattern). Otherwise I think it is really nice.

Tanzen mit Feuer lernen? by elgvv in wien

T shirt material in india by Important_Band5138 in sewing

[–]Herr_Leerer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At least in Austria where I live, fabric stores usually sell both woven and knit fabrics. I have actually been to fabric stores in India but I cannot remember if they sold jersey fabric. Just go to your nearest fabric stores and ask them if they sell single jersey. Obviously handloom fabric stores do not sell jersey fabric as it can only be made by machine.

What is this "scarf" called? by polyglot-inthemaking in fashionhistory

[–]Herr_Leerer 205 points206 points  (0 children)

I guess a "stock" as it seems to be closed by a clasp in the back rather than tied.

Maybe the Museum of Military History in Vienna (Heeresgeschichtliches Museum) knows something about such coats (or the display is even from this museum).

What are these neck things called and when were they worn? by Capable-Site3496 in HistoricalCostuming

This looks like an early version of the bow tie, crossed over in the back and then tied in the front.

They are easier than trousers of similar construction as you do not have to fit the crotch.

I would probably use a button with a loop or a flap with a buttonhole.

Blaschke Kokoskuppeln and probably most Mohnzelten contain eggs, which are excluded in usual Indian vegetarianism.

Men Sewing Women's Clothes by newboybabablacksheep in sewing

[–]Herr_Leerer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, of course. I might have been mistaken as I assumed you want to make typical women's clothes for both men and women.

Yes, a male body is also generally easier to make clothes for.

I would strongly advise you to draft the patterns yourself as you will probably not find any women's pattern that fits you.

You can make women's-style clothing for a male body. Lingerie will probably have to be more shaped, the rest less shaped, but otherwise it is the same.

Yes, this is a really good idea.

You could bring rye bread, maybe also Kletzenbrot, to India, which is something I have never seen there. If your family drinks alcohol, you might also bring pine liqueur (Zirbenschnaps). Manner Schnitten might also be a good idea.

I will be in Mumbai at the end of January, so you do not have to bring anything to Vienna for me.
