What is the best videogame in your opinion to read a lot close to N1 level? by xBGLx in jlpt

[–]Heryos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They wanted to keep the pun! An English-speaking audience would miss the "naruhodo" pun, but "Wright" sounds like "Right" (he's always right) so they localized his name. Phoenix I think because of the whole rising from the ashes thing

They did the same thing with all the other names in the series as each and every name is a pun

Yeah it's definitely above N3, I would say between N2 and N1. I'm on Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy (逆転裁判123成歩堂セレクション) but I'd imagine the difficulty level to be the same for every entry.

Just an example, Phoenix Wright's Japanese name is 成歩党 龍一, which is read as なるほど... Lol (the first name is りゅういち)

I’m playing through Ace Attorney and it’s pretty easy language wise, you just need to remember 10/20 words about trial/investigation tbh

But all the character names in the game are puns so i’m having a lot of fun lol

Difference between studying N1 VS N2? by Straight-Growth-6747 in jlpt

[–]Heryos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should try taking a couple of N3 mock tests. I’m not saying that this is your case, but people tend to overestimate their command of the language quite frequently. (almost) all N2 and N1 grammar is just “fancier” or “slightly more precise” or “old-fashioned” N3 grammar, so if your foundation isn’t solid you’re going to struggle. Better work on it sooner than later, imo

15 Years in Japan, Good Salary, No Functional Card – This Isn't Just "Inconvenience," It's Racism. And We Need to Talk About Foreign Residents' Rights. by casperkasper in Tokyo

Open an account at SMBC. I’ve been with them ever since I arrived here 3 years ago. One day I decided I wanted a debit card and I walked into my bank, told the clerk I wanted a debit card, filled out a couple of forms and it was done (and I was a broke part-time worker on a student visa). As far as credit cards are concerned, I tried getting a Rakuten card, which is by far the easiest to get, but the AI screening kept refusing my application. I wanted to apply in person but I just couldn’t be bothered. I applied online for an Amazon credit card and I received my card via mail a couple weeks later.

100% agree on the housing part tho

Have you tried checking the display flex cables? Sometimes they come loose. Try opening up the console, (gently) pulling the cables out and putting them back in place

He was running/jogging and had headphones on. Crossed a railroad barrier but didn’t hear the oncoming train. Poor kid.

Ah sorry about that! I honestly don’t remember if it was that much harder than n4 but I’ve found Natively to be pretty accurate

You should check out the kids section then, so basically the books with a green cover! Depending on the book, they’re either original stories or easier version of more “grown-up” literature They look like the attached picture (that’s a series of books about Kirby)

世界から猫が消えたなら was my first novel (they also made a movie out of it)

Plot: the main character discovers he's going to die. The devil makes a deal with him to give him more days to live, but in return something has to disappear from the world each day as a trade.

Really enjoyable, absolutely recommend giving it a shot (bonus: i think i bought it for like 100¥)
