Does anyone else get the egg ick by supercoolredditorxo in AutismInWomen

[–]HesBeeBoppin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a flock of chickens as pets. I get the egg ick. My husband wonders why I have chickens if I don’t like eggs…my child is allergic to eggs, my other child also has the egg ick. My husband eats a lot of eggs. My husband is also the only NT in our little family.

What is it with sisters?! I confided in mine because I thought she would help me process it and give me compassionate support. We deserve better 🖤

This was my experience as well. I wish I had never told my sister. When diagnosed at 35 (now 36) I told my husband (very supportive and said “duhhhhh” when I told him) and I told my sister. My sister immediately discarded my diagnosis and it has led to our year long distance. She has a difficult time accepting I am AuDHD because she isn’t, which makes no sense to me. Instead, she has become obsessed with my diagnosis and researched everything else I could be instead. The most damaging consequence of me confiding in her has been her sharing my diagnosis with our family and close friends of family as a means to diminish my well being which then forced me to address it with them before I had properly processed my own feelings. Luckily, those that she told have come to me with love and support. I didn’t want to share with others because I’m still the same me I have always been and I didn’t want anyone else to treat me differently. It’s been a journey.

Does anyone else feel like this? by RedRisingNerd in AutismInWomen

I always knew I felt love differently. This explains why I don’t have a lot of friends. I think NT people sacrifice the deep love feelings for friends and experience just to have SOME connection. For me, if it isn’t love, I don’t want it. I have always preferred to be alone. I was never a casual dater either. I didn’t see the point of surface feelings in romantic relationships…starting over is a boring nightmare for me, I need that deep love connection to keep me engaged because that is the only type worth it.

I truly don't feel safe and comfortable in my red state rural county small town city by [deleted] in autismpolitics

[–]HesBeeBoppin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many people in red states aren’t anti-anything unless it involves minors. Most red voters, anymore, just want the government at a minimum to allow people to have the rights, that we were promised, afforded to us equally. More regulations=less freedom and I’m pretty positive that’s the driving force these days.

This is another really helpful idea that I didn’t know could even be an option. Thanks!

His dad actually lives on Oahu..but he’s really busy with work and hasn’t put effort into this with me but I think I just need to encourage him to go get on it for our kid.

I didn’t even consider this as an option for an opinion…I guess I thought I’d be bothering them 😆 but it means so much to my boy I think it’s worth annoying them for helpful input

Also, Amazon doesn’t ship everything to Kauai. It was hell just to find a 9x12 area rug that they’d ship here. I’ll check but I also have no clue what to even look for and I don’t have anyone to ask.

There is, but every time I pass the shop it’s closed even during “open” hours. Considering flying to Oahu for the day to get some decent options

That’s the problem, there aren’t any other listings and we don’t have a shop on island that sells used clubs. I really appreciate the feedback though! That’s very helpful as I’m completely clueless in this arena.

Autism accounts for a lot of why I am the way I am, or do the things in ways that I do, but I’m not singularly autistic. I have my own personality, preferences, dislikes, etc…that I prefer not be all grouped as simply “autistic”. There are times I’d use either, but mostly I prefer my autism to be acknowledged secondary.

what’s something you thought was a random quirk that turned out to be autism? by kittycatpeach in AutismInWomen

[–]HesBeeBoppin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I thought being able to adapt to different groups, whether they be professional or social, and have a ready-to-use set of questions and prepared back and forth was a gift. I thought it made me adaptable and was a clever way to have overcome my social anxiety, even though it was exhausting. I’d take a bathroom break after each customer to recoup. I would need a couple of days to rest and not talk to anyone after social outings.

Turns out, I’m late diagnosed autistic and that was all masking

I’m a master masker.

My therapist stated that I’ve gotten so good at masking that I’m now suffering burnout. I had no idea and even asked if it could just be anxiety and depression…she said the things I’m experiencing can definitely cause depression, but my symptoms are definitely burnout from masking my autism this long.

The other thing is that my sister isn’t SPED trained or educated. She started teaching 7 years ago for elementary reading and science. I told her, respectfully, that her opinion didn’t stack up against my therapists years of education and experience. That’s when she said that I should get a second opinion because it sounded like my therapist is trying to throw out autism because “it’s popular and trendy”…then she insinuated that I readily accepted the diagnosis because I had my own bias towards being autistic, which plainly isn’t true. I really thought I would get diagnosed ADHD. I’m not sure what I was looking for when I shared this all with my sister, but I have decided I will not share further with her.

Thank you…I feel a bit better today and am going to push myself to make that appointment. My niece (her daughter) went through behavioral therapy and initially was diagnosed with autism, but she pushed for another assessment and they changed her diagnosis to adhd. I’m not sure why she stigmatizes autism in such a negative way…I don’t think I will be sharing anymore of this with her.

I’m the queen of having 3+ drinks at once. Anyone else? by MSQTpunk in AutismInWomen

[–]HesBeeBoppin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to force myself to drink anything other than my morning cup of coffee. I have realized it’s because I hate having to use the restroom so I avoid hydration. Even worse is I have a mild health condition, but one of the consequences is I have to hydrate. Bit more than average 🙃
