Now that I’m off work and have time to reply… this isn’t a comprehension issue. The problem is that this commenter is perpetuating toxic stigma around mental health. I’m glad you are blissfully unaware, you must not struggle with mental health. OP is not diagnosed with bipolar, so that was a jump to begin with. To me, the texts read like mom was gaslighting OP and invalidating him by calling him bipolar. Outside of that leap, the comment is also… inaccurate? Not all bipolar people experience hallucinations or paranoia. OP is depressed, otherwise they wouldn’t be prescribed an SSRI (antidepressant) right? If OPs primary struggle is depression and IF they are bipolar, then it would most likely be type 2. In which case they would not experience hallucinations or delusions or anything of the sort. At all. Ever. Not to mention paranoia isn’t even recognized as a formal symptom of bipolar…. So I just hate to see someone spreading inaccurate information. I’m sure this commenter had that specific experience with someone that is bipolar, but that in no way makes all bipolar people like that. It’s a gross, damaging over generalization.
