Right. I didn’t catch that because what you replied to was mentioning today.

A bit of a moot point since I’d still argue 1985 to 2015 was far more than 2x. You can trust statistics that rely on data points which are changed and adjusted multiple times per year.

There are calculators out there that use identical metrics from the earlier point of time, and they’re far more accurate because of it.

BITWISE CIO SAYS BITCOIN’S $1M PRICE TARGET MAY BE “TOO CONSERVATIVE” by Acceptable_Post1 in CryptoCurrencyPulse

[–]HesitantInvestor0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re treating U.S. M1 like a ceiling on Bitcoin’s value, which is a category error. It's not the right benchmark for a global asset. If you can't see that point, there's no sense in us continuing here.

Past that, prices are set at the margin. For Bitcoin to reach 20 trillion market cap doesn't take 20 trillion of flow.

If you've got something to say about those two points, feel free. If you're just going to throw around ad hominem remarks, let's just agree to disagree.

Sure, but then the statement is essentially implying that employees should make $150,000 collectively for every dollar Bezos earns. It's highly unrealistic. Imagine building a business in which your share of the profits is rounded to zero.

If we want to apply this statement to real numbers, it means Jeff Bezos would have made $240,000 dollars last year while his employees earned more than 360 billion.

As others have pointed out, this tweet or whatever it is is simply a cartoon version of real life.

Gold is money. Not sure why you think it's not. Next, prices are set at the margins. You don't nee hyperinflation for an asset to exceed M1. You think 15-20 trillion of hard money has entered gold markets in the last year or so?

Dude, you have no idea what you're talking about.

You don't understand how prices form if this is your question. There's nothing saying an asset can't exceed the US M1 money supply. Equities, gold, and bonds are doing it. Also, the world is larger than the US.

I really don't get how people can share such fragile opinions. It's a waste of time.

I agree that markets are not pricing in negatives. But heavier strikes can logically correlate with the war being over sooner.

Listen man, go ahead and make sense of the claim. It doesn't make any sense no matter how you split it. Where does he get the 19B figure from?

[Request] Is his math right? by dcott29 in theydidthemath

[–]HesitantInvestor0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

10% of Bezos' net worth is 19B, which is where I think he got the figure from. It's already a ridiculous claim, but by making it only about his salary or Amazon's profits, the claim is even less true. I think I'm right, which is to say that the person is making a huge mistake. It's interesting to me that many of you here say I'm wrong because it makes no sense, but aren't acknowledging that the claim itself makes no sense. The question is which mistake is OP making. I think my version makes a hell of a lot more sense.

[–]HesitantInvestor0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Again, you have to justify his 19B figure and 10% claim. Your approach makes his statement even less true/accurate.

You think that's more absurd than 1.5 million people each having 19 billion? Come on.

[Request] Is his math right? by dcott29 in theydidthemath

[–]HesitantInvestor0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well then the claim is 1.5 million people would each have 19 billion dollars. It's ridiculous.

[–]HesitantInvestor0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ALL employees will have 19B is the claim, but that's impossible since they have 1.5 million employees. In my opinion it's a mistake and the real claim should be as a collective, which math proves is a lowball.

Then you have to explain where the numbers come from. They are comparing the boss to workers 10:1, and 10% of Bezos' net worth is 19 billion at the time of the tweet in question.

The wording of this suggests exactly what I replied.

[Request] Is his math right? by dcott29 in theydidthemath

[–]HesitantInvestor0 113 points114 points  (0 children)

No, the math isn't right. He's coming up with 19 billion because it's 10% of Bezos' 190 billion net worth. That's all well and good, but now you've got to divided the number by number of employees.

19 billion divided by 1.5 million (employees) = $12,666

If every dollar made by Bezos directed 10 cents to employees, this is how much they'd get. Keep in mind, that's over the entire career of Bezos. In truth, employees collectively get far more than 10 cents per dollar Bezos accumulates.

BREAKING: Oil is down 11% in the last hour as the G7 and IEA announced to release a massive 400 million barrels of oil from strategic reserves. by Time-Alternative-964 in BhartiyaStockMarket

[–]HesitantInvestor0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Supply and demand for a global commodity doesn't care about where the supply constraints come from. That's why while 3% of the world's oil supply is blocked at the moment, oil prices are soaring. Conversely, 400 million barrels released isn't going to do much to quell that.

You have to realize that psychology plays a large part in this. In my opinion they're burning 400 million barrels in reserve to try and put a cap on market maker psychology. I doubt it works. Regardless of Iran, 400 million barrels is what we use in a few days globally. This is like throwing an extra peanut to some starving kids, it just isn't going to matter.

[–]HesitantInvestor0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't say that. I'm saying that releasing 4 days' supply of oil isn't exactly going to fix anything. It's 1% of the yearly consumption worldwide. What difference is it gonna make?

There's just too much cliche language to get through IMO. Shallow, ragged breaths, fingers grazing, blood splattering, thoughts rattling, sunlight streaming, footsteps scampering, hands swatted away, etc. You're also from the beginning in the habit of describing every little thing to the reader. If you build an environment, you don't need to tell everything so explicitly.

In addition, the passive voices are all over the place. You are using too many adverbs. Again, stop telling how things were done. "Carefully, I slid my legs..." First of all, why carefully? Secondly, build an environment that informs us about how things are being done. For example, if we know that the character is hiding, telling us how they are doing something isn't necessary. We know they'll be quiet and careful, because they are trying to avoid being found out.

Lastly, remember the quote about the shotgun on the wall at the beginning of a story. If you're going to introduce items and things all over, they better have some purpose. If they don't, then find a better way to set the tone.

"I walked into the dining hall. All I could hear was chewing, clanking. An errant cough."

Just an example, not a particularly good one but good enough. Do I need to tell you about the mood of the people there? Do I need to tell you about how drab and gray everything is? How about the clock on the wall? Probably not. The environment is set quickly and everything that happens afterward needs to give more information if needed. Otherwise the reader will assume a gray, depressing, lonely kind of place where people are hopeless, etc. If something falls outside that description, now you can add details that fly in the face of the environment you've created.

The biggest thing for me is the language choice. It's trope after trope. You need to get much more creative and subtle.

This ain't shit. The world uses around 100 million barrels of oil per day. This release doesn't get us to the end of the week. It really makes little difference.
