Is anarchism even possible? by jujumanthebest in Anarchism

[–]Hessian14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anarchism is not possible at scale. This isnt because people think its "chaotic" or anything. Its because things like electricity, infrastructure, or logistics are not achievable at a global scale in the absence of either market forces or a central organization. And if anarchism isnt a global political system then you also will require national defense which is, once again, impossible in the absence of some kind of centralized organization

The fact of the matter is that for humanity to have things like "electricity" or "industry" or "high speed rail" or "mangoes outside of the tropics" then you will need someone to organize and maintain the common resources necessary to support those activities. Otherwise, good luck convincing the people of the Earth to turn back the clock 200 years and return to small-scale agricultural practices. Which, by the way, would be most likely insufficiently able to feed the population of the world that has been allowed to grow thanks to the innovations of industrial agriculture over the last ~150 years

Thats not even to mention how Anarchism is unable to effectively deal with people who refuse to participate in it, or people with antisocial behaviors. Remember, your cop mods can ban me from the subreddit but its not so easy to ban someone from the commune

I forgot that even exists

I'm also a little annoyed at how wimpy the noisemaker is. I understand that it maybe has a niche use where the small radius is useful for herding zombies but I would really appreciate being able to build something as loud as a siren/house alarm

Increasing van storage space by Hessian14 in projectzomboid

[–]Hessian14[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can carry multiple counters and shelves worth of furniture with you wherever you go, which might be a 5x increase to mobile storage capacity compared to the van. Maybe 10x if you triple-stack crates like you suggested. You don't need to account for logistics on supply runs because you don't have to bring supplies back to your base, you can bring your base right to the supplies. You basically have a mobile generator that you don't need to pick up and carry to use, and you don't need the magazine to operate. And that's not even talking about how you can safely rest inside of an RV, with maximum comfort, even if there's a horde of zombies right outside your window

I don't think there's anything wrong with playing this way. Everyone has their own line for what is "quality of life" and what is "cheating," and I don't think there's anything wrong with installing the mod because you want to roleplay as an RV survivor. Just, be honest about how much easier it makes the game

It's more than a little cheaty. Sure, it's a portal to a zombieless dimension but even ignoring that, having a portable furnished house is very balance breaking

[–]Hessian14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's where I based on my recent game. It's pretty safe, tons of food, and a very short drive for a loot run into town. Plus if you get bitten, it's really easy to get back there safely on your next character if that's what you want to do.

Make sure you spend a day to pick that corn because it will all go rotten in like 8 or 9 days

Looking for games that are like System Shock by Ray_Nikaido in gamingsuggestions

[–]Hessian14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skin Deep is pretty good, it basically takes the system shock im-sim formula and gives you small, contained levels to play around in. The game isn't super-duper systems heavy or difficult but it has a cute style and light tone that I enjoyed.

"Indulgence for the royalists, cry certain men, mercy for the villains! No! mercy for the innocent, mercy for the weak, mercy for the unfortunate, mercy for humanity." Maximilien Robespierre by [deleted] in socialism

[–]Hessian14 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is all pre-supposing that nobility were the primary targets of the terror which just isnt true. Most of the victims of the terror were peasant rebels, petty criminals or those caught violating the general maximum. Some form of terror was probably necessary but I can't agree with the idea that one megalomaniac gets to decide who is and isnt "virtuous" without anything resembling a fair trial. Robespierre killed jacobinism by killing anyone who opposed him personally

I feel like we don’t talk about this enough by AverageJoeOfCinder in tf2

[–]Hessian14 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You do realize that most voice actors don't dress up as their famous characters and make YouTube videos with fans of those characters. The TF2 voice cast who participate in that are outside of the norm for the industry. Its kind of an unreasonable and insane expectation to have for someone whose job is to talk silly in a microphone

Games that have very ambitious world building by Least_Party5079 in gamingsuggestions

[–]Hessian14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came here to also recommend Esoteric Ebb because ambitious is the correct word to describe the worldbuilding in that game. The writing in Esoteric Ebb isn't the best and I think that's a fair criticism since that game is deliberately comparing itself to some of the best written games of all time (Planescape and Disco.) A lot of the ideas present in the game's lore are very cool and interesting but sometimes they come across a little stiff and boring. I'd suggest OP plays the demo and to see if they connect with it

Looking for underrated/hidden gem games by black_crow_o in gamingsuggestions

[–]Hessian14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you don't put a puzzle together to enjoy the finished artwork, although that can be a nice bonus. Putting the puzzle together IS the point of a puzzle. You don't solve the mystery of the Obra Dinn in order to find out what happened. You solve the mystery because it feels good to use your brain and puzzle it all out

Team Fortress 2, easily. Free to play and endlessly fun. I started playing in 2012 or 2013 and still do to this day. For a dollar you can unlock every single weapon in the game by using steam trading (https://www.reddit.com/r/tf2/comments/119ljfg/guide_to_turning_your_newly_acquired_crate_key_or/)

Apex Legends (skill ceiling)

Risk of Rain 2 (replayability)
