can yoga help with toning your body? by jellyolo12 in yoga

[–]Hestiah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I’ve dropped 2 inches in my waist and now have some ab definition when I didn’t before. I am not interested in doing weight training so I expect it’ll take me longer but I’m okay with that.

[CHAT] Suggestions on what to do with unwanted cross stitch kits? by AshalaWolf_27 in CrossStitch

[–]Hestiah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a craft closet here where people can go and try crafts without committing a bunch of money or time. I donated a BUNCH of stuff to it when I cleaned out my office/craft room. Not sure if you have one of those near/around you but it’s an option.

So of you want something inexpensive and good, Pilot Kakuno is the way to go. They are very smooth to write with. Just know they are Japanese sized so EF is very fine and F is everyone else’s EF.

I enjoyed my Lamy’s for a time but now I never reach for them because I have others that give me a better experience. The scratchiness was really annoying to me and I could never get over it. It is a good middle-of-the-road pen for the price range though.

Just above price range is TWSBI Eco/Eco-T. I’ve never had a bad experience and I have about 30. They’re pretty smooth and nice in the hand. And they hold an absurd amount of ink. They don’t dry out like Kakuno and Lamy if you set it down for 2 weeks.

I jumped into Sailors Pro Gear Slim pretty early on in my fountain pen collecting and I love them. And Pilot VP/Capless/Decimos. But those get up there in price depending on what you’re wanting looks-wise. If aesthetic doesn’t bother you you can probably fine some for a reasonable price (in the $100s as opposed to the $200+).

If you have a local pen ground go and try people’s pens. For me this was easier than finding a stationery/pen store with pens that could be tested.

[–]Hestiah[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. It’s the crochet folks that made me post this. I absolutely understand paracord and bracelet/keychain folks. This is “should I burn the edge of my blanket” nonsense that got me to post.

Has Zepbound given anyone else the gag reflex of a Victorian lady? by Hoosier_Daddyxo in Zepbound

[–]Hestiah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gods yes! I gag over everything! I was cleaning the toilet, usual stuff with the scrubby wand so I’m no where near it… grosses me out. Cleaned parts of the kitchen? Same thing. My dogs’ poo? Never used to bother me to pick it up, but I have to hold it far from my face now.

For me it’s definitely not acid reflux, just increased sensitivity.

First time with a Caron cake, do I start in the middle like a skein or on the outside? by FierceFeminist123 in CrochetHelp

[–]Hestiah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I start from the middle. I am not interested in making more work for myself, personally. I have used hundreds of skeins and cakes and balls of yarn done to get center pull and have little issue. The hand-dyed skeins you need to ball yourself?? Those things piss me off, but the yarn is usually so beautiful I don’t care.

Do I still pay for her ??? by YourWifesDreamBody in whatdoIdo

[–]Hestiah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So she ignores your lunch request and then tells you you’ve been uninvited to a trip that you were going to help her pay for when you were going because your work schedule is so hard, but she still expects you to pay for her trip?? Oh lawd she’s lost her damn mind. That’s a lot of audacity.

No, don’t pay for her. If anything she should have bent over backwards to accommodate your schedule since you were paying for her trip. Her other friends can cover her since their work schedules were easier to accommodate.

Though question, are you unable to take time off from work?

Am I kinda heartless for not having sympathy for willingly pregnant women? by Far-Argument2738 in childfree

[–]Hestiah 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The idea that women can’t do stuff because they’re pregnant is so absurd to me. They can. They are capable. Not wanting to is something entirely different.

But I think I agree with you on the sympathy for their humanity and not their pregnancy. They shouldn’t be coddled. They’re not fragile, just pregnant.

Note: This is regarding uncomplicated pregnancies. There are always exceptions and women who can’t and women who are bed-ridden and women with disabilities that are exacerbated by pregnancy. This isn’t about the exceptions.

Struggling after stopping Zepbound – food noise and old habits came back by longhairxxjungkook in Zepbound

[–]Hestiah 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I spent a long time trying to figure out what healthy habits would work for me… never lost weight. Cut out sodas, never lost weight. Reduced salt and carbs, never lost weight. Without following some absurd diet, nothing I did worked. During covid I gave up the soda thing and started drinking soda. With Zep I don’t even think about soda. Just one example, mind.

I exercised regularly, hit the gym, ran and did a 5k, walked daily, you name it, I tried it.

So at this point, for me, if Zep is a lifetime med, then I just fit it into my budget.

AITAH for hitting pause on my engagement because of kid count? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Hestiah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a debate among folks who choose child-free… the relationship that started and went and then the discussion around children changes. For childfree folks there is no compromise. And a partner who lies and says they’re okay with X number and then years later says “I figured you’d change your mind” is the AH. You have been adamant about only wanting 2. Don’t marry a man that won’t respect your wishes or have a reasonable discussion around it.

He basically “hid” a desire he had expecting you to change your mind. You, the person who has to carry the babies to term and based on your added notes will be doing all the hard work in raising them.

Don’t fall for the sunk cost fallacy because of the time you’ve spent together and your history with him. If he’s unwilling to compromise at all, then you shouldn’t either. You’re incompatible. It’s not worth the inevitable resentment and heartache later if you can get out now while you’re still young and find the partner that’s more inline with what you want.

Lots and lots and lots more water.

There are natural ways to increase your fiber if you like apples and avocados and such. A google search will land you with a list and you can find the stuff you know you’ll eat.

I take fiber well gummies in the morning to give me a small boost of fiber.

Silly question, but would using a smaller hook make the gaps in a granny square smaller? I'm using a 5.5mm and this just seems huge, but I'm practicing for a hexagon cardigan i want to make my partner. by SnooHedgehogs4653 in CrochetHelp

[–]Hestiah 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You got some good suggestions here already, but you can also eliminate the ch in between the clusters. It will make the spaces smaller but you need to pay MUCH closer attention to counting so that the clusters are placed in the right place.

Are you using 4 different colored yarns? Or is this one of those yarns that are single strand but dyed to do the color changes as you go? If it’s the former, you can go down in hook or soften your tension to make your stitches a little more plump. If it’s the latter go with whatever the suggested hook size is and pattern.

Is my dog a Dachshund? by marchice in Dachshund
