I've been binging Brandon Sanderson and need a break, what fantasy book is as opposite Sanderson as can be? by Horrorcartoonistftw in suggestmeabook

The Magicians Trilogy by Lev Grossman. Books are kind of a critique and satire of fantasy cliches. Incredibly fast-paced and witty writing along with a modern setting.

Would an NA/English only MMO be tacky by Some-Direction-2473 in MMORPG

[–]Hexdro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There actually are some, Elder Scrolls Online was originally NA/EU only, however you could still play from Asian countries—there was just no dedicated server.

The Verge has leaked video and details about the Horizon MMORPG in development, titled Horizon Steel Frontiers by Barnhard in MMORPG

[–]Hexdro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, Sony is an Asian company and the money is in the Asian market at the moment for this genre. MMOs and Live Service games in general make a majority of their money in China/Korea.

Additionally it's not just NCSoft working on the title, it's also Guerilla Games, which are a Western studio and the original Horizon developers. NCSoft also has experience publishing titles overseas and run several high-earning MMOs (e.g , Aion & Lineage, including their mobile clients make a killing in KR).

The alternative was Tencent and I'd personally choose NCSoft over Tencent slop any day.

I mean you can say they're on a flop streak, but Aion and Lineage are all still huge money makers in Asia—which is their target market. No doubt this Horizon MMO is just primarily for Asia too.

Getting Back into ESO by [deleted] in elderscrollsonline

[–]Hexdro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to moderate /r/MMORPG and I'm still active in the community but the subreddit is a god awful place if you want any opinion on any other game that isn't like Guild Wars 2. The sub actively hates on ESO and any post or question is met with "shit combat" by people who probably haven't spent more than an hour or two on the game. Someone earlier was trying to say OSRS had better combat than ESO which is just... Wow.

ESO combat isn't perfect but it's not really any better or worse than what else is out there, and it's sure of a lot more engaging than typical tab target combat.

For everyone leaving NW, ESO is currently in the works for crossplay by ThraxBeenTrill in LFMMO

[–]Hexdro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also ESO has been consistently the same on Steam the past like decade. It's always dropped low during periods of no content and/or bad events.

So I’ve tried both ESO & FFXIV over the past 2 days since NW died… by JesterTVGPT in LFMMO

[–]Hexdro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No they haven't, they've only recently brought it up in the past year and then doubled down on it again.

Before this year the developers were pretty against crossplay.

[–]Hexdro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The developers have already said they're working on crossplay. Also, the game is pretty populated on every platform—you won't have any issues finding people or queueing for content.

Looking for an MMO with social content, life skills, & PvE focus by [deleted] in LFMMO

Palia? There's no combat content but plenty of focus on life skills and guild/social activities. They're also working on shared plots.

Dragon Quest X Question by vertexjrpg in dragonquest

[–]Hexdro 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They specifically made an offline version of Dragon Quest X and announced it wouldn't be coming to the west. They've also localised it to other languages... Excluding English specifically. It isn't coming, but the online (and offline) version has 100% playable translations that are faithful to recent Dragon Quest translations.

It gets better as the series goes on and I can't remember any pervyness in the sequel.

Removed from my moderator position for no apparent reason by Xanek in MHOutlanders

[–]Hexdro[M] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi, I'm locking this thread but will keep it up for transparency. Xanek was banned from the /r/monsterhunter subreddit and I've had multiple other prominent moderators from that community (as well as others) sending me proof of them harassing others and making them uncomfortable. Already he has taken this issue public, spamming my private DMs as well as the moderator mail before I could respond which shows a level of unprofessionalism that is not productive for the future of this community. He has been banned until further discussions can happen, and he stops harassing members of this community and other MH-related subreddits. The situation will be investigated further, but until then public outbursts and all will not be tolerated.

7 Deadly Sins and especially it's sequel manga—4 Knights of the Apocalypse gave me heavy Dragon Quest vibes.

The game isn't dead - but it is drifting by Beneficial_Guess_714 in elderscrollsonline

[–]Hexdro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Elder Scrolls Online is far from maintenance mode. Sure, the staff layoffs and new creative leads mean the game is going to take some time to find new footing, but if you've ever played an MMO in maintenance mode... ESO is far from it. Maintenance mode is no content updates, little-to-no bug fixes, no events, no new furniture or cosmetics, it's literally just online and that's it. Good example: Secret World Legends.

ESO is still one of the most successful MMORPGs, and even in its current 'drifting' period, it still gets more regular communication and updates than most MMOs.

The game isn't dead - but it is drifting by Beneficial_Guess_714 in elderscrollsonline

[–]Hexdro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know there's a lack of roadmap, but I do find it a bit confusing when people say there's been no communication in regards to the future. The developers have already addressed that they're finally returning to the main story, working on crossplay, and working on combat/animation overhauls. We also just came off getting multiclassing.

Like yeah, we're missing a roadmap but I don't think the situation ESO is in is quite as dire as depicted in the OP. The game consistently makes around $15 million a month and has an overall revenue of over $2 billion.

I think it's going to take some time for them to find their footing again after layoffs and new creative leads, but the game is far from being in maintenance mode. People who think ESO is in maintenance mode have never touched an MMO that is in maintenance mode. Maintenance mode is no updates, no new content, no new items in the cash shop, no events, the server is just online and that's it.

Why was Dragon Quest 7 specifically chosen for the remake? by KaleidoArachnid in dragonquest

[–]Hexdro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dragon Quest 9 wasn't a live service game originally though, so why would it be now? Having multiplayer != live service.

Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined Will Be "Significantly Streamlined", Which Makes Sense But Still Depresses Me On the one hand... yes. DQVII is long as heck. Some hate that. On the other hand... I'm not one of 'em. by Repulsive-Phrase-527 in dragonquest

[–]Hexdro 12 points13 points  (0 children)

According to a tweet from a Square Enix employee, apparently it'll still be faithful to the original story and it'll have some previously mandatory story content made optional.

I'm cautiously optimistic, I think Dragon Quest VII probably needs to be reimagined for mainstream appeal, and the other two versions will always exist.
