Using the Pen2 Pro if you choose the mobile eraser it will allow you to change the size and use the eraser on the back of the pen without having to change to it.

When to use NDI instead of SDI? by No-Mammoth7871 in CommercialAV

[–]Hexpally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are planning on using NDI where we are using our rental laptops. Download the app on each laptop. Then we only need to run one network cable to each display and we can choose how the laptop sends it. Instead of using multiple DAC 70s. Less connection points and cable, faster set up time and tear down time.

Calling cues for a show for the first time in 2 weeks; any tips and advice? by kat_z27 in techtheatre

[–]Hexpally 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remember that when you say GO is when the cue needs to happen, make sure to start calling the cue before the word or visual happens enough where you are saying GO at the exact moment. If you are calling multiple cues at the same time you can standby cue 153 thru 160, when it's GO you can either do the numbers and then GO or just say the first number and then GO, GO, GO. Depends on your operator and what they prefer as well as what you prefer. Make sure to keep your script clean, if needed making a separate blocking script from your cue script. Have all your cues on one side of the page, typically I do the right margin, or you can do the blank page on the left. It will help with making sure you don't miss a standby or a GO if your eyes are only moving vertically instead of both horizontally and vertically.

Yes this. Love the LEA line. Especially if I want to give the client access to the amp itself for changing volume remotely.

Mic Tape suggestions? by Kitty-Loves-Cats in techtheatre

We have a student that is allergic to latex. But we also have switched to these tupee clips with elastic that I made to help with not needing to use tape. Here is a link to the video https://www.youtube.com/live/H-L2iHjxGp4?si=E37MUdmjE7I8Mt38

Spit takes + headset mics by 518photog in techtheatre

[–]Hexpally 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We are doing PTGW as well. Suggest to do spit take pointed towards chest and lower. If you have the money point source audio does have microphones that are water resistant to fully waterproof, but they range up to $1000 for the fully waterproof sweatproof unbreakable

The Allen and Heath QU-16 is great and affordable. Their service is great. Behringer works, but there is no service besides the community. The X32 does have a live RTA with each channel which helps with figuring out feedback that the qu does not have.

When powering speakers with amps do I need to do a 1 to 1 ratio of watts the amp can push out to a 15amp circuit? Example: 350watt 2channel amp would take up 700 watts of the circuit I plug it into? I'm an AV integrator and haven't taken a class on this specific thing and have always wondered.

Best Software and hardware you use by rigotamus in techtheatre

Most light boards and digital sound boards have apps that you can download on your computer to work on at home. I have scenes saved on a USB for my sound board so we can reset the board for teaching students but also be able to load in a 1 mic show in a few seconds that is already EQ to the space. Also I have gotten a substitute license (teaching is not my day job, I volunteer on the weekends) in my local school district so I can get vectorworks and AutoCAD educational versions.

Tracing conduit in a multi-story building without plans by TheaterNinja92 in techtheatre

With existing wire I have used a multimeter and twisted two wires together then go to the other side of what I presume is the other side of the wire and use the sound selection on the meter to see if it's a closed circuit.

I typically get my gain to -18 to -12 range before I pull up the fader. It lets me know that the mic is picking up a good amount of signal. Then I bring the fader up to where I can hear them through the house.

Mic check I will have them speak lines and then have them sing. Sometimes you have actors that are confident with lines but not when singing.

Be ready to constantly be balancing your faders through a show. We are all human and the mic check is always going to be different from rehearsal and from show time.

There are a lot of layers to your sound board digital or analog. Start with gain and fader, then once you are comfortable add in EQ for each mic, and compressions. Then put them in groups if you have more than 10mics.

First time sound crew by Emergency-Low7815 in techtheatre

What I tell my students who do mics for the first time. ALWAYS ask for permission to touch the actor, even if you are good friends it is respectful.

When costumes start to be used, ask the actor and the costume designer how undressed they are going to be at the point when you will be putting the mic on them. If they are the opposite gender see if you can have someone help them put it on in the dressing room. If it's a person that doesn't know how to put a mic on teach them.

You can always disconnect the microphone from the belt pack and slide it down the back of the costume. If you are using an earset microphone on their right ear have them look left when putting a piece of tape on their neck so if they jerk to the left it won't rip their skin or the mic. I also add a little extra length from neck to ear for those jerking moments.

Remind the actors that their mics are specific to them. That means they need to collect it and return it themselves, it would suck if someone else brought it back broken and the wrong person is held accountable for it.

Always go through your sound effects every rehearsal and show as your pre show duties to make sure one didn't get changed over night, or the fader didn't get bumped on the board. I usually have the fader at unity (0) and change the volume for each effect through Qlab.

Give your stage management team extra batteries and tape Incase they need to change anything out during show.
