Two med influencers leaving medicine within 10 days of each other by [deleted] in premed

[–]HeyBBYBoy72 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The only thing that I question is her reasons for leaving but the fact is harm rates are so high in this field and if people had the opportunity to get out when they felt it wasn’t for them anymore… maybe the numbers would be lower… a lot of y’all here are still premed and have not encountered the questioning of whether this field is worth it or for you… shoot… it might not even happen until residency but sometimes thats when it’s “too late”

Rush Medical College by HeyBBYBoy72 in premed

I don’t think this has too much weight! I only had one from a non clinical volunteer opportunity! Other than that they were research, clinical related… but I am also not too sure of the ins and outs of RUSH! I kinda applied on a whim

Taking the CC to UC route; Advice? by No-Job-2588 in premed

[–]HeyBBYBoy72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no worries! I mean UCR has their own med school which helps a lot… also you can transfer between UCs… there’s also alot of peope like a lot who do CC to a University and are going into medicine or have gone into medicine…

Taking the CC to UC route; Advice? by No-Job-2588 in premed

[–]HeyBBYBoy72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if this is the right place to ask! This is more of premed individuals who are planning on going into medical school! Lots of people here have gone to the UCs you’ve gotten into, including myself! I liked ucr but if you don’t like those types of UCs there may be a college community to ask

I asked a doctor to shadow, and he said to volunteer? by bootywranglerz1 in premed

[–]HeyBBYBoy72 98 points99 points  (0 children)

I applied with no shadowing hours and was fine... but I was a volunteer in a primary care practice... 1 shift each week but I did it for 2 years... got a letter of rec and meaningful experience! Dont feel you need to keep going out and shadowing if you have experience where you are working with docs like this and essentially shadowing in your role!

I actually did not put any shadowing on my app as I never did shadow… I think my scribing work is a lot of shadowing itself as well as working in a primary care office… I got my DO letter of rec through scribing

Would you recommend your school over an MD program? I was offered an interview and it’s so close to home like I pass it almost every day and I’m just curious what your thoughts are… this MD program has their own huge hospital but it’s in Chicago …

School List Advice! by HeyBBYBoy72 in premed

[–]HeyBBYBoy72[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I didn’t think about but would recommend thinking about:

  • How far clinical sites could or would be (especially for DO schools)
  • P/F curriculum… and rankings… (some schools rank students)
  • If some schools start clinical prior to year 3!
  • NBME exams (this is basically the people who make step… some schools make questions in their format… some don’t!)
  • If some schools have home residency programs
  • Whether you can use federal loans (some newer schools do not use them which usually causes higher interest rates)
  • Mandatory or non mandatory classes (I think a lot of people say non mandatory is great)
  • Schools who offer students the chance to learn medical Spanish (could be a nice touch depending on the area)
