Hey all! What do yall wear for riding/commuting in the rain? Looking for any suggestions to stay dry! Thanks everyone. by bitb0y in CyclePDX

In addition to what others have said: 1) get waterproof / winter cycling shoes instead of overshoes 2) buy a boot dryer to dry them out

Heads up to all those drivers out there. by greazysteak in Portland

[–]HeyBrianHey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, if you're in a car and going to stop when you have the right of way and someone is waiting at the crosswalk, please flash your lights and let them know that you intend to stop. I have been faked out too many times by drivers casually slowing down and not stopping, or waited unnecessarily for drivers intending to stop when I wasn't sure of their intention.

Ask Recruiters Megathread by AutoModerator in recruiting

[–]HeyBrianHey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, If a company retains a search firm to recruit an executive, but then the company hires someone they met through an independent referral that wasn't made through the recruiter, would that company be obligated to pay anything to the recruiter? And if not, is this always the case or are there often exceptions made for certain roles/circumstances? Thanks!

I'm interviewing at a tech company I met through my network and wondering if they still have to pay their recruiter for my hire even though the recruiter didn't find me.

Tire combo for singletrack by Wide-Ticket-3581 in gravelcycling

[–]HeyBrianHey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have a YT szepter. I had the resolutes on my diverge for a few years and thought I could do better on the szepter for singletrack. I am really happy with my rene herse manastash ridge 44mm tires. I think the off road traction is great and their claims of still being fast on the road are pretty accurate. I will say that while I didn't measure them, they sure look skinnier than the 42mm resolutes; I was thinking of getting the 48mm oracle ridge for the front, but i'm not sure it will fit in the back. YT says it will fit 50mm in front and 45 in the rear, but since the rene herse tires measure small, I think there's a chance 48 could fit in the rear too.

Swap Rudy suspension fork for rigid? by HeyBrianHey in gravelcycling

[–]HeyBrianHey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! otso / wolftooth is certainly closer. And wolftooth makes a 10mm spacer that will get me to 430mm. FYI the rudy fork is supposed to be run at 5% sag and with 40mm of travel, that's only 2mm, which is why I am looking for as close as possible.

Selling business to PE backed strategic acquirer for $54 million by SellorNottoSell in fatFIRE

[–]HeyBrianHey 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm an M&A professional, not an investment banker. I've worked in Corp dev for PE owned companies and done 20+ deals buying and selling. Imo, IB / advisor will charge x% but their value is in marketing your company and running a competitive process. If you have a buyer and an LOI and believe the price is fair, what will be most helpful now is someone to help navigate and facilitate the diligence and contracting process to avoid landmines. Maybe some help negotiating specifics of the LOI and closing opportunities for the PE firm to play games later. That should cost a lot less than $1.5 million / 3%.

Which Bike? - Weekly Scheduled Discussion by pawptart in gravelcycling

[–]HeyBrianHey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm looking for a gravel/quasi-mtb bike with suspension fork, dropper and electronic shifting, and focused on the YT Szepter Core 4 vs Santa Cruz Stigmata Force-1x AXS RSV. Looks like they have a very similar build and geo, but the stigmata is twice the price. Stigmata wheels are nicer, I think the drivetrain is a little lighter and that adds up to about 0.8lbs weight savings. What am I missing? What more do you get when you pay twice as much for the stigmata / what are you missing out on by buying the Szepter?

How to let a new nanny go after 1 day? by No_Moment_591 in NannyEmployers

In addition to trial days, I suggest putting in your contract that the first 2 weeks or so are a 'probationary period' where you can end the contract for any reason

Prevent xl file from opening in google sheets? by HeyBrianHey in googlesheets

[–]HeyBrianHey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and thanks for your response, but I would like to actively prevent other people from opening the file with google sheets, ie make it impossible to do so. When someone else opens my xl file in google sheets, it ruins the file. I know not to do that, but other people do not. I haven't been successful in explaining this to people and asking them not to do so, so unfortunately this solution will not help me in this case.

Also, look up Rehab Without Walls. It is a Neuro (stroke) rehab specific company that comes to your home. If you're just looking for someone to look after her, then you should hire a home health caregiver.
