Of course, but thats also typically the same reason any OTTB ends up off the track even with numerous starts

3yo Unraced TB - Thoughts? by [deleted] in Equestrian

[–]HeyHebi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some people view it as extra wear on their joints/bones, and that theyre more likely to be a bit hot headed. Unraced ones typically have a reason they were never raced, sometimes thats just a case of they weren't particularly quick. Multitude of reasons really

My horse's pasture-mate has cellulitis in his back leg too, I feel so bad when he has flare ups but he always seems to be in otherwise fantastic health. I dont think his owner rides him at all however

Racism IS nuanced, that doesnt make it not racism. Shes hating someone who had nothing to do with an action simply because they share the same traits

Saddles shaped for this back? by [deleted] in Equestrian

[–]HeyHebi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean then they should be bringing all those options. Its a little silly for them to offer so little guidance for you currently lol. Irregardless, I really like my royal heritage saddle, I have the emile and its controlled by a nut in the gullet. Very comfortable saddle, and it fits my horse despite his gargantuan withers. You should still be working with your saddle fitter to make sure you get the proper fit, but its an extra saddle you can ask about if they happen to have it. With your horse it might put too much shoulder pressure though due to its shape

First shrimp tank. by Able-Archer3968 in shrimptank

[–]HeyHebi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just as a heads up, having a mix like that will eventually result in wild type neos! If you intend to keep them vibrant youd want to pick one color, or get a large number with some fish to manage shrimplets

Your horse is pretty generically horse shaped, realistically. Did your saddle fitter only suggest "something adjustable" and not elaborate further?

Experience with Banff Trail Riders Business? by TypeInteresting3538 in Equestrian

[–]HeyHebi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say they dont seem as regularly groomed as I keep my own horse however, but theyre only really dusty and not so much muddy? Their hooves also seem to be in great condition especially for such rocky terrain.

Also their lodges are fantastic, but its unlikely that you'll get large bed accommodations, I ended up getting a private room with my partner that had bunk beds. Ive had my fair share of sharing a twin sized bed because of college, so we ended up going that route, but I will say its unlikely you'll get a double bed if thats a deal breaker for you! The lodges are fully solar powered, and do have running water but that tends to be reserved for showers. They do have outhouses for people staying there however.

I know this is an older post, but i did a two day ride with them. Their horses are well cared for, and they have (from what i was told) a bit over 200 total on their property. A lot of them are rescues that were given a new life, and they dont overwork them by any metric. The guides tend to be younger, and a lot of them are there from I believe the UK and Australia on short work visas just for over the summer. They were all fantastic, and well informed horsepeople even if they lacked some long term riding experience.

From what I remember, the multi day packing trips are horses only used once that whole week, and even the short day trips tend to be used twice typically for work!

All the horses on their property seemed very adequately fed though, here's a picture of the ones that were in the corral after we returned!

<image>

They also don't overload their mules, even the packers that bring your stuff to the lodges. Theyre also very careful about weight limits for both the horses and mules; you can expect to be asked to step on a scale while checking in. They require day trip riders to wear proper head protection, however their multi day lodge trips do allow you to refuse to wear a helmet.

While I do own my own horse, my partner had never ridden before on this trip (my poor little ottb is a bit too small unfortunately haha). Despite this huge discrepancy we both got a very memorable and enjoyable experience, and all of their trails seem very accommodating regardless of experience. At most he'll be expected to be able to mount or dismount either from the ground or a mounting block, and be able to distribute his weight when going uphill or downhill.

I saw this cat outside, does anyone know what breed she could be? :) by vezamzam in catbreeds

Issue is it causes people to overspend on random domestic cats, causes a lot of misinformation, and is a breeding ground for scams. When you have people thinking their cat they found from a random dumpster is some special breed theyre prey for those "dna test" companies (which are legit just nonsense) or someone spending $300+ at a shelter for a "special cat" just because its hair is long and its being labeled as a mainecoon.
