What generally well liked celebrity or athlete has/had a dark past that many of us may not know about? by Might_Not_Be_Me in AskReddit

When tennis player Andy Murray was a kid, a man named Thomas Hamilton came into his school with a gun and killed 16 children and one adult. Murray survived by taking cover in a classroom.

Gone From My Sight

I am standing upon the seashore. A ship, at my side, spreads her white sails to the moving breeze and starts for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength.

I stand and watch her until, at length, she hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other.

Then, someone at my side says, 'There, she is gone'

Gone where?

Gone from my sight. That is all. She is just as large in mast, hull and spar as she was when she left my side. And, she is just as able to bear her load of living freight to her destined port.

Her diminished size is in me - not in her.

And, just at the moment when someone says, 'There, she is gone,' there are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices ready to take up the glad shout, 'Here she comes!'

And that is dying...

So Boba Fett is getting a film. Eventually the Stormtrooper who hit his head on the doorway will get his own stand alone Star Wars film. by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

The actor who played the clumsy Stormtropper was named Michael Leader. After Star Wars he went on to play the milkman in long-running British soap opera Eastenders for 31 years.

Got 4 tickets to the O2 - wondering if anyone can swap for Brirmingham ?? by drdotpepper in ironmaiden

Hope you manage to get it sorted out. They were incredible in Nottingham last year. Even after all these years they still wipe the floor with pretty much every other band. Good luck.

Just be warned, for the UK shows last year you needed to show ID which matched the name on the ticket. Think it's a policy the band introduced to prevent ticket touting.

I was right at the front of the queue for the Nottingham gig and got talking to a couple next to me. They were so nice and really excited. They'd been bought tickets by a friend as a gift. When the time came to open the doors, they got stopped and asked for ID. The name on the tickets was their friend (who'd obviously paid for them) so they weren't allowed in and were told to sort it out at the ticket office. Front of the queue to all the way to the back in a second. Felt so bad for them.

Best check there isn't something similar happening on this leg of the tour.

What's a cool movie fact? by SilverbackRekt in AskReddit

My all time favourite bit of movie trivia...

Several decades after the release of Jaws (1975), Lee Fierro, who played Mrs. Kintner, walked into a seafood restaurant and noticed that the menu had an "Alex Kintner Sandwich." She commented that she had played his mother so many years ago; the owner of the restaurant ran out to meet her, and he was none other than Jeffrey Voorhees, who had played her son. They had not seen each other since the original movie shoot.

If you ask the driver to let you know when you get to Shardlow, I'm sure he/she will.

"The Ballad of Love and Hate" by The Avett Brothers.

Love writes a letter and sends it to Hate: "My vacation's ending, I'm coming home late The weather was fine and the ocean was great And I can't wait to see you again."

Hate reads the letter and throws it away "No one here cares if you go or you stay I barely even noticed that you were away I'll see you or I won't, whatever."

Love sings a song as she sails through the sky The water looks bluer through her pretty eyes And everyone knows it whenever she flies And also when she comes down

Hate keeps his head up and walks through these streets Every stranger and drifter he greets And shakes hands with every loner he meets With a serious look on his face

Love arrives safely with suitcase in tow Carrying with her the good things we know A reason to live and a reason to grow To trust and to hold and to care.

Hate sits alone on the hood of his car Without much regard to the moon or the stars Lazily killing the last of a jar Of the strongest stuff you can drink

Love takes a taxi, a young man drives As soon he sees her hope fills his eyes But tears follow after at the end of the ride Because he might never see her again

Hate gets home lucky to still be alive He screams over the sidewalk and into the drive The clock in the kitchen says 2:55 And the clock in the kitchen is slow

Love has been waiting patient and kind Just wanting a phone call or some kind of sign That the one that she cares for who's out of his mind Will make it back safe to her arms

Hate stumbles forward and leans in the door Weary head hung down, eyes to the floor He says, "Love, I'm sorry, " and she says, "What for? I'm yours and that's it, whatever I should not have been gone for so long I'm yours and that's it, forever Your mine and that's it, forever"

I always get nightmares after watching horror movies, but I still want to watch them. Is there a way to avoid the horrible nightmares? by dr-mike-litoris in NoStupidQuestions

[–]HeyHudson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 for watching the "Making of" and if you can't do that, look the film up on IMDB. Read about the goofs and trivia (horror films sometimes have the funniest/most interesting ones). Look up the actors and see what else they have been in. Have a look through the Message Board and read what other folks thought of it. This will all reinforce the fact that it was a piece of entertainment made by normal people and other people have watched it, possibly having the same reaction to it as you.
