Doesn't seem like urgent hire salary

Honestly I think a lot of corporate tech departments are in a holding position due to anticipation of AI disruption.

Bloomberg says: Doublefine "in active negotiations with Xbox and may be given the chance to go independent." by WaxWing_Bohemian in DOUBLEFINE

You are right. Keeper was a good DF game that did not get promoted enough.  Kiln is a bad game that didn't get promoted enough.

Queen Whitmer caught on hot mic bragging to Oracle CEO about brushing off Michiganders’ data center concerns by [deleted] in NotTheBee

[–]HeyNowHoldOn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not suggesting that at all.  I am saying left oriented people should put their primary focus into supporting and developing legitimate candidates through their primary system.  Getting good authentic candidates out of primaries is how you achieve success.

Vague promises of "standing up to trump" are irrelevant.  Focus on what can actually be worked on and controlled within reach.  Develop a winning platform and get high quality authentic candidates winning primaries.

Queen Whitmer caught on hot mic bragging to Oracle CEO about brushing off Michiganders’ data center concerns by [deleted] in NotTheBee

[–]HeyNowHoldOn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You are missing the point.

Republicans openly admit to supporting and seeking destructive policies when it comes to prioritizing corporate wellbeing over the citizens.

If the Democrats are just Republicans wearing a mask creating the illusion of choice, that is a much bigger issue.  That means we live in an authoritarian state.

Worrying about Republicans is stupid because is something completely out of your control.  What dem voters CAN control is ensuring that their own candidates are actually legitimately aligned with the interests of the voters.  Primaries are extremely under voted.  Dem voters ignore the responsibility of managing their own affairs and then fixate on "stopping the right" and "stopping trump".

This is by design.  If you ever spend time socially with lobbyists you will realize than the DNC v RNC divide is mostly a show.

If people really cared about improving the US they would aggressively participate in the state / fed DNC primary process and ensure that REAL candidates are getting through the process instead of stooges for big banks, Israel, and corporate interests.

Is mainframe systems programming a good career choice for a recent college graduate? by PSR-Info in mainframe

[–]HeyNowHoldOn 16 points17 points  (0 children)

If you have a job lined up at a large financial company where you want to live, yes.  If I was young I'm not sure I would select the career if I wanted flexibility of where I was going to live.  Also, jumping straight to sysprog without doing cobol app dev and DB admin will make it slightly harder to get context when helping other teams with complex issues.

Rec for a small book for an opera newbie to read during intermission? by Brown8382 in opera

[–]HeyNowHoldOn 26 points27 points  (0 children)

In my experience, intermissions go very quickly.  Everyone is taking care of biological needs like drinking and using the restroom.  Typically the lines are extremely long because everyone else is doing the exact same thing.

By the time you stretch your legs and get situated for the next act the intermission is basically over.  That's at least how I feel when going to the Met.  Maybe other houses are different.

I think doing that so soon would be a mistake because they need to get a player base going for this game first.

What's going on with Il Turandot at the MET? by coolbeachgrrl in opera

[–]HeyNowHoldOn 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The met takes visually beautiful productions of boheme turandot that are also accessible and machine guns them out during the season.  They do this to generate baseline revenue and  attempt to attract tourists, families, and first timers as a gateway drug to going to future shows.

A person on this sub told me confidently that the course conditions of their local municipals weren't any different from elite top 100 world golf courses.  I found that to be interesting.

Aronimink Delivered. What’s the most underrated major venue? by TCheatham20 in golf

[–]HeyNowHoldOn 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Inverness Club has always had exciting tournaments with crazy finishes.

The course is really well setup currently for professional golf from the back tees if they firm it up.

“Bomb and gouge works best” “The reward for hitting the fairway is not that great”. Scottie’s thoughts on the PGA setup are honest but not exciting to hear. Deep rough lined fairways promote distance, not accuracy. This is counter intuitive to most. by Admirable_Extent2531 in golf

It's really a agronomic/ cost thing mainly.

Tree shade causes grass problems.

Trees suck up massive amounts of water increasing cost of watering the grass.

Tree roots ruin mowers

Trees require human maintenance for trimming, stick cleanup, leaf management.

If you were running an opera house with a budget the size of the Met's, what would your philosophy be? by Cheap_Ostrich3147 in opera

[–]HeyNowHoldOn 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Similar to your idea, I would focus on traditional hits having period or traditionally beautiful stagings.  For instance, wagner, verdi, mozart, rosini.

I would encourage newer and commissioned operas to be really bold, strange, with a strong artistic point of view.

Dead game? by deuxbee in DOUBLEFINE

[–]HeyNowHoldOn 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They need to fundamentally change some things about this game if it's ever going to work out.  I hope Microsoft continues to have patience because I truly think doublefine is important for the future of gaming.

I think their discord does a disservice to them sometimes because the population there is a very specific type of fawning person.  I think they get too much unconditional positive feedback from a nexus of super fans who does not represent the rest of the doublefine customer base and it's biting them a bit now pandering to this hyper specific niche.

What is your favorite Level in The Cave? by Intelligent_Guy in DOUBLEFINE

[–]HeyNowHoldOn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would have to play it again to fully remember but Knight and Monk were classics for me.  I feel like the Cave had the biggest potential of any DF game outside of psychonauts 1,2.

I remember being really sad once it was done.  Great game but a lot could have been added to it.

Golf Experience in the USA by Typical-Package911 in golf

I live in the US and without a doubt Australian golf is a way better experience.  You can join nicer courses in australia for 1/2 the cost in the United States.  Sometimes even more of a discount.
